i drive a 2013 kia optima. there is a recall out for these vehicles and i recently had to replace my engine at kia because my engine locked up. my car was making a similar noise to this before it stopped working completely and i had to bring it to kia.
I like how you showed the diagnosis one step at a time. Too bad the crankshaft journal is damaged. New rod bearings and perhaps an oil pump could have fixed it.
My engine seized . They had to reconstruct it. And had to change the whole lube pump for s modfied one. They said low lubricstion causes the bearing to wear and fail.
My daughters 2015 Optima started having this noise a couple of weeks ago, she had it towed to the Kia dealership and they are replacing the motor at no charge. It had 125k mikes on it.
Have a Kia Optima Hybrid with only 60k miles and it’s making this noise. What can I do? How much is it to repair this issue? I took it to a local mechanic and he’s recommending i find a used engine to put in but I want a second opinion.
I dont understand people who doesn't take care of their vehicle... It's a really small fee to pay for oil changes... I own a 04 Audi a4 b6 and i change my engine oil every 6k miles even tho the interval is 9k
@FrozenOne Some people are experiencing this issue while maintaining their vehicles service schedule, so it's not because of lack of maintenance. It's a recall issue.

Wow so I guess I’ll have to do same I have a 2014 model 156k mileage ; It rattles when I accelerate, put it on park or when I reverse

@@Onekassius yes because the main bearing was jammed and that fell under their recall for the engine.
Mine started this today & it is so loud. When I accelerate it gets worst!!!!!!!

Can a timing chain cause the rod bearing to fail or vice versa? This happened to me & I heard knocking & also heard a rattling

What year is it? Engine has piston oil jets?

Those engines have often problem with cylinder scratches and bushings screw up

If your engine is making this noise then your engine is completely worn out and it is best to replace the engine.
And after rebuilding the engine it can be fixed but for that you have to replace a lot of parts and you need a good mechanic.
Depending on the year kia did a recall on the engine for two replacement

The engine doesn't show oil build up so not sure why you would think changing the oil would have done any good. This is mechanical failure.
