    I've mixed emulsion or chalk paint with clear (quick drying) internal varnish many times to give a paint wash effect. Very easy and hard wearing, it means you get the paint and the varnish/lacquer done in one coat. Great for floors and furniture if you want the aged effect.

    • @AnnieSloanHome
      @AnnieSloanHome  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi everyone! YES you can. Exactly the same principles stand as on this video. If the tiles are particularly shiny you may want to give them a little sand for the Chalk Paint® to adhere better, but this is only optional. Please note, we don't recommend painting tiles in place with pooling water, such as bathroom floors and sink basins. - Amy W

    Can you paint vinyl?

    • @AnnieSloanHome
      @AnnieSloanHome  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes! Vinyl is a non-porous surface, so I would suggest you sand the surface very lightly. This will mean the Chalk Paint® and Chalk Paint® Lacquer will adhere to the surface better. I would still also do the test as in this video, as you don't know what's beneath the Vinyl. - Amy W

    Can I paint laminate flooring with chalked paint?

    • @AnnieSloanHome
      @AnnieSloanHome  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi Eddy, yes you can! Laminate flooring is non-porous, so you will need to leave much more drying time between coats, and you may need an additional coat for coverage. Laminate flooring will be more susceptible to chipping, so I would suggest at least 3 coats of Lacquer for maximum protection. - Amy W

    What are the steps to paint laminate planks floor? And what do I use?

    • @AnnieSloanHome
      @AnnieSloanHome  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      First, clean your floors with a liquid 'TSP substitute' cleaner - this type of cleaner is safe for use and will allow the paint to better adhere to your laminate floor. Then paint, allowing each layer to dry completely before applying the next (don't rush this step!). Finally, seal your floor with two thin coats of our Chalk Paint® Lacquer for a durable and long lasting finish.

    I have watched this video, from Jan 2019 with Astar's place...so many times, over the year, and I'm still scared to dive into my project! The two of you painted a beautiful chair. What if someone spills something on the chair, sweats profusely or otherwise wets the fabric, will it reactivate the paint and get on someone's clothes and skin? As for the wax on the fabric, will it make the fabric sticky or gummy, will it get on clothing or skin? That's what I'm concerned about...after painting how can I keep the item dry and permanent. Also, you mentioned curtains...what's the ratio of paint to water, and what's the next step after you have your stained drippy curtains... should they be laundered? Do you suggest heat setting them right after they get stained? Or, should they be washed in cool water in the washing machine and dried? I really need answers so I can move on...I'm frozen by fear of messing up....Thank you

      There’s no need to be nervous - painting with Chalk Paint® is so easy and fun, even on fabrics. Allow me to share the following advice:
      Many upholstery fabrics can be painted with Chalk Paint®, although the more natural fiber there is in the fabric the better it absorbs paint. It’s best to choose a chair or sofa that is not too soft and squishy as this makes it hard for the paint to be absorbed evenly and dry properly. Keep in mind that you will be staining or dyeing the fabric, so you won’t be able to make a dark fabric lighter.
      Begin by diluting the paint with water so that it is liquid enough to be absorbed by the fibers. Adding the right amount of water to the paint is crucial - the paint needs to soak into the top layers of your upholstered piece, rather than all the way through - as you are trying to avoid thick paint that clogs up the pile and feels hard and crusty on drying. Also, misting your fabric with some water is important so that the paint mixture absorbs into the fibers. To make certain of the consistency of the paint and the absorbency of your fabric is a question of trial and error. Test a small patch on the back of your upholstered piece or the underside of a cushion first before committing to painting your entire piece. If you think the paint might still be too thick or your fabric is not wet enough, add some more water and use a scrubbing motion with the paintbrush to spread the paint around.
      When you are satisfied with your test results, apply one or more coats of paint for even coverage. After applying the paint, let it dry completely; this might take a day or two depending on the fabric. Once dry, and depending on the weave, you may want to apply Clear Chalk Paint® Wax for a polished look and to give the fabric more of a leathery feel.
      You can also paint directly on fabric. This is the best method to use on curtains, especially if you’re painting fine lines or stamping or stenciling patterns. Simply apply undiluted paint to the fabric using your preferred method and heat set with a clothes iron once the paint has dried.
      To further answer some of your questions: You can protect your painted fabric from spills, profuse sweating, etc. with a spray-on fabric sealer such as ScotchGard. The wax will only feel sticky or gummy if you apply too much (not every fabric has to be waxed).
      Why not test your techniques on a scrap piece of fabric similar to what is on your upholstered piece or used to make your curtains. Wax a portion. Spill water on it (or even wine!) to see what happens. Run it through the washing machine. Even sit on it for a period of time! This way you'll know for sure whether Chalk Paint® is a good solution for you.

    Hello, what is a stain blocker?

    • @AnnieSloanHome
      @AnnieSloanHome  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is an excellent question! When we talk about stain blockers (or sealers) for furniture painting, we are typically referring to shellac. Shellac can be used to help stop yellow or pink stains from tannins found in wood knots or open grains, or colors from non-permanent wood stains, from bleeding up through new paint layers; it seals areas that have been repaired with wood fillers or spackling or touched up with a stain pen; it seals surfaces that were exposed to nicotine and smoke, soot stains, water rings, coffee and tea stains, permanent markers, saline stains, etc.; it seals porous surfaces, such as raw wood, from absorbing too much paint; and it is also used to lock in unpleasant odors. Clear shellac is safe for use on items destined for child use.

I am not in a position to give you medical advice as far as affecting your lungs, but if you have health concerns, please ask your Stockist for a copy of the SDS for Chalk Paint®. You can always discuss its contents with your physician so that together you can make an informed decision.
