Holy shit, I've loved Television for ages, but I never realised until now that Tom Verlaine is the Norm Macdonald of punk rock! 😂

Thanks for this as I deal with his passing. Shows his humor that a lot of people miss in his lyrics, maybe because we were mesmerized by his guitar genius. Just gotta say, “I fell into the arms of Venus de Milo.”

We talked at Battery Park in 06' , we were planning on going into Piranha smuggling from the bayou after the Hammerhead success in Panama. He told me no Hammerheads were hurt in the process so I was hooked. He went it alone though..told me he lost the tip of his ring finger on his right hand and would never play Kingdom Come after that..saying that he held the pick with that finger...I thought he was psyching me out just to get me outta the deal. Glad I have a version of Yung Wu doing that track...perpetuity y'know !

Someone who traveled with him (I don’t think it was Jimmy Rip but someone like that) said he would adopt characters and not leave them for days. I’ll look for the comment and edit it if I find again who was talking about that, but this is exactly what he is doing here.

  • @karenstinnett

I emailed him. This interview and the full Marquee Moon is available for paid subscribers, over an hour. I hope he reconsiders and releases this one in its entirety someday for everyone for whom subscribing to an Italian language channel isn’t really feasible.
