    Fun fact: Faber-Castell's origine is in Nuremberg (Southern Germany), where their first pencil factory is, which is a public pencil museum today. Close to that factory is the Castell castle. Staedtler and Stabilo Schwan (I don't know how famous Stabilo is outside of Germany) have their origine as well in the area around Nuremberg.
    As an art student who comes from that region, it's just brilliant. :3 Because of factory outlats, possibilities for internships, I even got invited for testing products bevor they got sold on the open market and have I mentioned yet, that Faber-Castell has it's own art academy in the old factory above the pencil museum, where I did a pre university art course? It is indeed a beautiful city to grow up as an art interested child.

    • @sarahfisher6801
      @sarahfisher6801 5 ปีที่แล้ว +49

      I decided to price out the second box just out of curiosity and without even looking for the best prices it only came out to $42.25. Subscription boxes are meant to give you a high value of items for a smaller price and this just is not it. Now granted, maybe the remaining $7.75 would go toward shipping, but if I were buying this all separately I would either be using Amazon Prime, which has no shipping, or I'd be buying it directly from the store, in which case there would be no shipping there either. I'd also be able to get the best prices I could find and in-store I'd most likely be able to use coupons.

    • @sarahfisher6801
      @sarahfisher6801 5 ปีที่แล้ว +38

      The 3rd box actually only came out to $34.98. :/ I'm staying away from this subscription box.

    • @annadesorcy1429
      @annadesorcy1429 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      But add shipping. Depending on where it's from and where you live, it could add up to the rest.

    • @sarahfisher6801
      @sarahfisher6801 4 ปีที่แล้ว +32

      @@annadesorcy1429 The only problem with that, is that boxes are supposed to be products to try for cheaper than it would be to buy them yourself. Most boxes that I've seen guarantee that you will receive something like $150-$250 worth of items for the $50 because they get them at much lower prices than cost and sometimes the items are even given to them at no cost to distribute by the companies because it allows people to not only hear about their brand and products but also test them out for future consideration of purchases. That is my problem with it anyway. They make a hefty profit off of each box and the customers aren't actually getting a deal on the items. That defeats the purpose of the monthly box subscription in my opinion.

    • @ljn369
      @ljn369 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@sarahfisher6801 Maybe it's just because I think differently but, I don't think value is why you buy an art surprise box. I see it as someone putting together a box of things for you to try that you might not have try otherwise. You're paying for the stuff, for someone to get it for you and for put them putting it together.

      Thats just her being her, she missed likely other stuff too. I kinda dig her, but sometimes I wish she was just a hair smarter. Like when people asked her to try out “copics from wish”.. she bought real (and very pricey, imported and exported many times) Copics from wish, and what people wanted to see: the low cost alcohol markers like Ohuhu and Touch 5. It wasnt satisfying for anyone, but she cant change that. Shes also still a baby as an artist, sometimes her lack of experience and knowledge shows (you can do oil painting in one sitting, ask Bob Ross). I like her, but I watch her videos purely for entertainment, never for education or opinion. And shes one of the better ones out of these young YT-artists, theres few who are just good at drawing or painting, but otherwise thoroughly clueless... influencing future artists. (I dont know why I sound so mean and judging, I really dont mean to. Lost in translation, I guess..)

      JulianaBub - You can keep loving the misinformation and half assed reviews as much as you want, that is your prerogative. She put herself out here with her still quite limited knowledge, so critique will happen, I really didnt try to be mean on purpose. Since Im writing here with my real name, you better believe I understand how real people work, miss Pseudonym. You also did a stellar job ignoring any other point I made, or the fact I like her. Maybe I used the wrong word. I guess Im just waiting for her to mature, so she will become useful to me, Im not just taking pot shots at her for funzies. This is my opinion, you dont have to agree. _But I wish you wouldnt start to censor me either._
      (This post may sound patronizing and pissy, but this time it might be on purpose. I think Im getting too old to be told like a kid.)

    • @Juliana-Bub
      @Juliana-Bub 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@janemiettinen5176 I wouldn't really call this "misinformation." It's just her first impression of something. She also often clarifies that these videos are her personal opinions and aren't real reviews of the products. Making an honest mistake does not equate spreading misinformation. Also... Who cares? Is it really that big of a deal that she misidentified one single art product that I'm probably never going to buy anyway?
      Since you say that Chloe "put herself out there" to be criticized, so did you. (And usernames aren't pseudonyms. They're usernames.)
      Just because you say you're a fan of something doesn't absolve you of the shitty things you say.

    I love the concept of art subscription boxes, but I don't art frequently enough for monthly boxes to make sense and I'm pretty picky about what things I'd want, particularly which colours I'd want to receive to do art with. So have decided that its best just to watch others on youtube get them and do art with them. That way I get to feel the surprise of seeing what you get without the cost of the box and having the supplies go to waste if its not something I'd want to use.

    As someone who's been using Function of Beauty for a year now:
    SO worth it! Seriously, get your hands on that stuff. A little goes a long way and it does WONDERS!
    Doesn't strip colour out, either! And you can literally choose what you want from your shampoo and conditioner. They also got masks, oil, leave-in and all that stuffy now! Yes, it is a bit pricy, but the smallest bottles last me for a good 4 months or longer (I do have short hair, tho). Can really recommend it!
    Also, the scents are fairly strong so going with mild is better lol
    I had peach, eucalyptus and milkshake before. Peach is my favourite! AND the colour of the shampoo/conditioner isn't hairdye! It is just to look pretty. Doesn't dye or stain your hair, unless you chose recude brassiness, then the shampoo is purple shampoo to cancel out yellow tones!

    For Henna type products, if you need the stuff off. Go get a surgical sponge. You get asked to use them before you go in for surgery and they take off everything. I had Henna on before I went for breast surgery. (I was getting a non-cancerous tumor removed) and it took my henna off really quickly. =)

    My favorite box out of these would be the one with Faber Castell PITT Artist Brush Pens, one of the few supplies I am not allergic to. I would like to collect all their colors. I enjoy watching Smart Art Box videos, and seeing you folks try out new themed projects... Sadly though I would have to make my own box and pretend to be surprised so I could select items I'm not allergic to (acrylics, alcohol, latex erasers, oils supplies, glue, some pencils with soy....)

    Lol, many people paint in ools all in one sitting. Ala Prima , is what it is called and most start thin with the oils and jump around the composition so areas can set up a bit to be painted upon just a bit thicker without being too slippy. December was my fave because I usually use watercolor. It would be a fun break.😉😁👍💜

    This was my first video I've watched of yours. First, you are a ray of sunshine, and it makes my spirit lighter with joy watching. Second, great video! I appreciate you reviewing the 6 month set as I agree, some months are better then others. This was a great chance for me to decide if I really wanted to invest my money in the goodie box. The candy set me off, along with dirty items. HOWEVER, I loved the stained glass painting you created and I would have like to try the tattoo box. Yet the 4 months, I was done and ready to move on, disappointed......Third, New subscriber for sure. I can not wait to see what else is on your channel. Many Hugs, ~*Shana signing out.

    I agree with oil paints. I used them once to do a couple of paintings. I liked the effect that I got, they seemed to mix well. I did a painting of the planet Jupiter once in acrylics and I thought that it would be easier to replicate in oils, BUT! The length of time it took to dry was a big put off for me. I don't have the space to leave them out to dry so oils are quite impractical for me. It is a shame, though because aside from that issue, I enjoyed working with them. Acrylics are my favourite paints, and I am trying to improve my watercolours and get into gouache, as I've not done much in that.

    The Hanemule oil board you got in the last box isn't a board, its a block of paper. Its sealed on all four sides so it doesn't warp when you paint on it, but you get 20 sheets in it! You just need to slide a pallet knife into one of the corners to peel the top sheet off.

    The Faber Castell Pitt pens are India ink, not alcohol. They don’t blend and they’re good for lettering, but streaky for areas of colour. Some of those brands are pretty cheap especially Royal and Langernickel. I’m not sure these are worth $50. Had a minor choke at the price of the shampoo too, sheesh. They don’t say if they’re lightweight, it’s gotta get in deep, but then get out. £3.50 at the supermarket still tbh. It’d be nice to see you use these fully, not always much to see from swatching, though the point comes across. I love your nail polish, very cute candy colours. I hope you feel better soon and get some sleep, working with that much illness is bleh, work should calm itself.

    I'm so late seeing this but just had to say that I agree I prefer acrylic paint however oil paint does have its place. If you use the wet on wet technique (Bob Ross) you'll finish the painting in one setting so no need to worry about waiting to finish!

    Fyi: "Relief is a sculptural technique where the sculpted elements remain attached to a solid background of the same material. The term relief is from the Latin verb relevo, to raise."
    Source: Wikipedia (it's also pronounced relieff, with an e that sounds like the one you get in the letter "f")

    I liked all the boxes but for different reasons. They all had things in I'd use and things I'd have a go at using. I'm looking for a new subscription box (I get cosmetics and food/snack sub boxes at the mo) and I think this one would be nice because youo create something a bit more permanent (and healthier than a spare tyre round your middle from eating loads of foreign snacks), so I might give this one a go...when I've cancelled a couple of the other ones I get now. I'd been thinking about getting some of the Function Of Beauty shampoo and conditioner as well as I've seen it advertised a few times and became interested. But my scalp is easily irritated and it takes ages to find a shampoo/conditioner combo that my scalp and hair like and that it doesn't fall out with after a short while.

    Stained glass is like a tiffany lamp. Coloured glass soldered together by lead fastenings. Personally I would do the relief first and then fill in the gaps to get a more even finish
