I heard her sing without a microphone at a family wedding in the late 80s. Her voice filled the room effortlessly, and it sounded even better live than on recordings. Hers was truly one of the most beautiful voices of her era.
That episode was one hell of a rollercoaster for me. I kept thinking that guy that fell in the hole was going to do something bad at any minute and it kept me at the edge of my seat. Had never heard of this song or Linda Ronstadt before this recent episode of The Last of Us. I'm so glad to have come across it this way, such an emotional piece of music!
I just saw that episode and realized I hadn't heard this song (pardon the pun) in a long long time, which brought me here. It really is a beautiful piece of music. Wish people would sing about love like this again. Happily, or sadly the emotion is moving. If you can't smile or cry, you're not really alive.
The Last Of Us HBO is forever in all our hearts. That episode was one for the ages. Thank you Craig Mazin for such a beautifully written episode and show. Rest in peace Bill & Frank; forever in each others arms
And Neil Druckmann, not only Craig. Neil is the father of The Last of Us (story he wrote roughly in 2004 and finally could make reality when in 2009 Naughty Dog greenlighted the project) and also the writer in the show and the executive producer/showrunner.
I will offer Nick Offerman as much money as he wants to record his rendition of this song. He did it so beautifully on a piano acoustically. It was my favorite part of that episode. ❤😢
My parents had a rough patch when I was younger and I remember my mom crying in the car to this song. I didn’t understand then. Happily they made it through and are almost at their 50th. I hadn’t heard this song in years and it all came flooding back, no dry eyes here. I understand now.

Back when the Arizona desert was still tranquil at night, I used to drive my old Dodge Dart out in the middle of it and shut the engine off. Thank you Linda, where ever you are right now, Thank you for being a part of such a special and precious time. Linda Ronstadt, THE Voice.
Ahh the disease of nostalgia " livin in the past to avoid the pain of the present and fear of the future" The fire of suffering becomes the light of consciousness.
Linda Ronstadt has been a legend for decades and has received all kinds of awards and acclaim. Considered one of the greatest if not the greatest female vocalist of her generation. She was the biggest selling female star of the 1970's. This T.V. show has nothing to do with it.
Hadn't heard of this song until tonight, from the last of us. The lyrics are beautiful & heartbreaking. What an emotional episode, one of the best episodes of TV I have ever watched. ❤️
I couldn't agree more, the episode left an indescribably good feeling in me, and given all the shit in the world today, it's nice to have something like that.
I was in Tucson, Arizona yesterday and I wished I could thank Linda Ronstadt for this song. When I came home from Vietnam as a Infantry Soldier, one of my buddies was a KIA. I knew then, 50 years ago, it was going to take me a "long, long time" to get over his death, I haven't yet. I bought a jukebox many years ago, this song was the first one I put on it. I don't tell people why, now you all know.

Linda Ronstadt is what the universe gives us when it's showing off. Rare. Real and Remarkable. No one could touch her vocally. Authentic heartbreak and robust natural power. Leaves her contemporaries and those whiny autotuned of today tarts in her musical dust. Dig deeper into her catalog and be amazed.
It makes me both thankful and depressed. Thankful that we got this, and depressed that future generations will be saddled with the garbage that they get.
I thought it was used beautifully, wasn't a girl Bill loved. That song hurt him because he loved. Doesn't matter who or what they look like but he loved.
I am so glad to see so many people discovering Linda Ronstadt, I have been listening to her since 1967 when she was the lead singer for "The Stone Poneys" a fold rock trio from the middle 60's. I followed her from the time she left that group and ventured out on her own. Such a dynamic and beautiful voice, I have loved her ever since the first time I heard "Different Drum". So underated and celebrated at the same time. I will listen to her music forever.

I think it was amazing that she took on classical music in the form of "The Pirates of Penzance", live in New York, and on film. It proves that she could have been a classical singer; her voice was that good. Although I don't think the lifestyle would have entirely suited her. She was definitely a rock chick. th-cam.com/video/68X7kA8jPJc/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=TUNE-MusicalMoments

In her book, she says this was the second take, in the morning no less, and she was just getting warmed up. I was excited to see a grump ass character who only cares for himself and to watch him argue with a 14 year old girl, instead I saw a love story of a grumpy man who became happy in the end with his husband and chose to go with him and a tear fell down my face and it was a masterpiece and this song matched the tone of the episode perfectly. This series is STILL an emotional rollercoaster and I still get surprised by how they can pull of such a great story and change and make it great and I can still never assume how the story is gonna go 👏👏👏
The very first time that I saw Linda in concert, was when my mother took me to see her in 1972 when I was 13 years old and she sang this song and I was hooked and became a huge fan.
The fiddle is played my first cousin, Nashville A-Lister Buddy Spicher. He told me and many others it's right up there with his favorite work over decades of sessions, and that Ms. Ronstadt was a delight to work with, no surprise. This song was Grammy-nominated in 1970. She enriches, and we wish her all the best.
The fiddle plays a big part in the pathos of this song. Poignant song and she really sells the lyrics. Looked up the Grammy cause I wanted to know what could beat this. Turns out it was the 1971 Grammys. Dionne Warwick won w/ "Never Fall in Love Again." Other nominees were Diana Ross's "Ain't No Mountain High Enough," Bobbie Gentry's "Fanny," and Anne Murray's "Snow Bird". I'd have voted for "Long, Long Time" with "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" a not-too-distant second. I'm also a big fan of her rendition of "Blue Bayou."
HappyGuyCMB Thanks for correction on year. I often think judging and contests futile, and I agree with you. Buddy told me something about not being sure where to go in this session - I can't remember for sure - have to ask him. We know that what makes so many A-Team sessions breathe is the spontaneity; often lost in our ProTools world IMHO. The ability and creativity of this comparatively small group of musicians, certainly not limited to Nashville (think e.g. of The Wrecking Crew) is always amazing to me. They just come up with stuff on the fly.
HappyGuyCMB You should listen to Linda's other version of this song; The only place Ive found it is on her Capital Years CD(disk2, track 13, I think). Its similar to her performance on The Midnight Special, but w/ FAR more emotion. Her voice, and the fiddle, in the last verse will tear your heart out,. It has shown up here on YT a couple times, but the Video Police from BMG get it pulled quickly:( Cheers'

I hate admitting that I’ve found all my oldies from recent TV shows but I can’t believe I’ve lived without this one for so long. One of my favorite songs now. I’ve always loved Linda.
Linda Ronstadt is not only one of the very best vocalists of the late 20th, early 21st centuries, she is also definitely the most versatile. From rock, to country rock, to trad Country music, to Gilbert and Sullivan operetta, to Spanish language, to the Great American Songbook. Truly, truly amazing. I love everything she recorded.
These sonmgs and these singers are what is missing in todays world. No one seems to give a shit about anything or anyone anymore . Can you imagine this beautiful girl singing about how broken her heart is after trying to get some unfeeling prick to fall in love with her. No one sings like this anymore. God bless Linda.

I first heard this song about 10 years ago while working at Big Lots. I loved it, because at the time I was living it. My boyfriend who I was madly in love with, left me, leaving me homeless, I wanted nothing more than for him to come back. I couldn't figure out WHO the song was buy and for months when it would come on I would ask customers if they knew the artist. No one knew. Then one day, a older cow boy type heard me talking to my boss about it and filled me in that it was Linda. Been on my play list since.
I'm so sorry you had to go through that. Love has a way of taking hold of us and we take so much even when it hurts the most, and yet with our hearts still pulling at us wanting to hold on to what only hurts. Believe me I know. But in time the hurt will slowly ease away but love and I mean true love will always be there for that person. Even though you may not end up back with them, sometimes we have to let it be in order for us to pick ourselves up and move on. I hope and pray that your in a safe place sweetheart and I'm sorry again. Thoughts and prayers are with you.

She's with you always, keep going for her. She's loving you from afar 🤍🕊️

My heart was pumping fast and I felt so uncomfortable thinking you better not hurt this man who is trusting you. Then slowly the episode went into a direction I never saw coming. One of the most beautiful love stories I have ever seen. I went from being stressed and scared to crying like a baby. I love life sometimes when stories like this reminds me of how beautiful life can be. We need to love one another and just enjoy life. I mean come on people, We are in the most beautiful country in the world but we make our lives harder than they need to be. Stop sweating the small stuff and be happy. Choose Love not hate. Share not take. Fall in love. Hug your mom and dad if you can and if not, hug your kids or spouse. Be kind to a total stranger today. Be the change you want to see in the world.
Same dude. I would have paid to see it in cinemas. Captivating

"Long Long Time" LYRICS
Love will abide, take things in stride
Sounds like good advice but there's no one at my side
And time washes clean love's wounds unseen
That's what someone told me but I don't know what it means.
Cause I've done everything I know to try and make you mine
And I think I'm gonna love you for a long, long, time
Caught in my fears
Blinking back the tears
I can't say you hurt me when you never let me near
And I never drew one response from you
All the while you fell all over girls you never knew
Cause I've done everything I know to try and make you mine
And I think it's gonna hurt me for a long, long, time
Wait for the day
You'll go away
Knowing that you warned me of the price I'd have to pay
And life's full of flaws
Who knows the cause?
Living in the memory of a love that never was
Cause I've done everything I know to try and change your mind
And I think I'm gonna miss you for a long, long, time
Cause I've done everything I know to try and make you mine
And I think I'm gonna love you for a long, long, time.

Had never heard of this song or Linda Ronstadt before this recent episode of The Last of Us. I'm so glad to have come across it this way, such an emotional piece of music!
Lots of great music from not so long ago, there to be discovered by a new generation.
I just saw that episode and realized I hadn't heard this song (pardon the pun) in a long long time, which brought me here. It really is a beautiful piece of music. Wish people would sing about love like this again. Happily, or sadly the emotion is moving. If you can't smile or cry, you're not really alive.

I was in Tucson, Arizona yesterday and I wished I could thank Linda Ronstadt for this song. When I came home from Vietnam as a Infantry Soldier, one of my buddies was a KIA.

I like his work and also Glen Duncan, who I've worked with.

She totally draws your into her heart and soul and the lyrics are incredible. To feel on a level like this. To sing about how much she hurts. You feel her pain to your toes. No one sings like this anymore. God bless Linda.
Yeah compare this to that trash Cardi B and WAP.
We've really fallen far in morals.
I'm surmising the DISLIKES might be from uneducated youth and rappers who have difficulty understanding heartfelt lyrics and decent melodies ???
I absolutely love Gary White and his beautiful wife, too. Without HIM the song might never have even existed ?
I do think other singers might have done equally as well BUT SHE GOT IT AS A FIRST CHOICE; made MCA allot of money; wonder what they would have done if Gary had never written it and submitted it to them? AH, the music business....and marketing skills are where most of the $alent seems to lie ?
Ha... licenses, copyrights UNIVERSAL, MCA... WHERE IS THE SONGWRITER'S NAME LISTED ? (GARY WHITE ) I sat next to him and Annie at a little party in Hollywood one day, and the song was just in the initial stages. WHY does the song-writer not get LISTED, you guys?? WITHOUT HIM, Linda would never have had the opportunity to review it and SELECT it. ?????????
"Time That You're Movin' on"

Linda Ronstadt is the best female singer ever. She's set the benchmark so high. Nobody else comes close. Totally brilliant.
Karen Carpenter
One of the best male or female
Karen Carpenter.
Agree 💯 and then some.
Yes Stephen, I agree 100%, Linda is a very special singer, fan for over 50 years, top of the line solid gold standard of excellence
The greatest female singer of her generation and it isn't even close
The song is totally great. Hard to believe it only went to #25 on Billboard. The song sends chills down my back.
After hearing Bill singing this song and the history I can't hear it any more without crying 🥲
Her voice was like a Stradivarius and she played it to emotional perfection. Certainly one of the most creative and important set of pipes. To say otherwise is ignorant.
The best episode of the season
This song means more to me than when I listened to it as a kid - her voice is perfect - brings me to tears .
One of the greatest voices. No one can ever sing this song better than Linda Ronstadt. This song just blows me away every time I hear it.
I've been in love with Linda since I was 16. This song goes right thru me every time.
Me too. Let's compete!!!!
I loved her too when I was a young romantic seventeen year old boy 🙂
I was sick for a long time and on my birthday 30.1.23 I was crying in bed feeling weak and alone without friends 😢 and then the episode came and it was such a beautiful gift that life showed me they could be unexpected and as gay man that never had real love I felt empowering and stronger. got up I hospitalized myself alone and after two weeks I came out of there like a new man, ready to live again. Thank you HBO and thank you Linda I would remember this for a long long time ❤
I first heard this song about 10 years ago while working at Big Lots.
Be glad he didn't come back - it can never be the same.
Stygean Hugh I hope things got better for you. I know how it feels to have your heart broken
life's full of loss, who knows the cost so true. I just had my heart broken again. it's been years since I have been in a relationship. my late husband passed away years ago. however the guy I was dating definitely has a much more severe mental health issue then I had realized, so in hyincide it was a blessing in disguise, but it's still very difficult for me
Song from SHAWDHANK
I'm glad the last of us bought me here. Beautiful
Linda will always rank as one of the best women singers of all time. How we love her!!!!!
If there are still human beings a million years from now . . . this song will be just as heartrending then as it is now
Time unfortunately changes things my friend. I'm sure those of the Tudor Era thought the same of "Greensleeves", the song that "could move the hardest of men to weeping". Now, no one would know it.
Let's hope this one is not thusly lost.
@@bernieboo7637 I love Greensleeves.
“Living in a memory of a love that never was...”
Sadness and sorrow dripping off of this song. I love the song. I love Linda!!!!❤️😊🎶✔️
I've been there, this song helped me a lot through that.
Vocally and visually she seems to have stepped out of a very fine dream.
Frogs And Goats Today A wet one.
Oh Linda. I'm one of your biggest fans. So very sad that you suffer from the same disease that is taking my husband away from me. I loved your music when it 1st came out in the 70's and still love it today. Peace ✌️ sister
This is my favorite vocal performance of all time. Has been since I first heard it 30+ years ago. She somehow turns her voice into pure emotion.
Matt Lancaster It's From A Love Strickin' Heart. Such as mine.
Heard it 51 years ago and it's still my favorite Ronstadt recording.
@@MrJohnnystott AMEN! She truly emotes! I've never tired of this song after 50+ years.
