With all the great running gear, you should talk to P.G. Adams, about replacement frame rails. They can make them in 1/2 inch material, if necessary. Best wishes all.
This is exactly the type of project and video series that brought me to this channel watching the international rebuild was the first thing I started watching on this channel so it’s cool to see you guys at it again
Scott, this video is exactly why we need men like you involved with our young folks. You show how we can have a bunch of fun and still walk with the Lord! Keep it up. It reminded me of our youth leader and his wife taking a couple of us on a wild ride in a Olds 442 that fishtailed and showed its power.
My 2 favorite HD log trucks, AutoCar and a 379 Pete. With steel frame of course. And a 600 CAT with big buttons. Will pull anything out of the Cascade canyons, Coast Range and Rockies. Hauled out billions of BF of giant l\old growth logs for decades, many 1 log loads. They cut her all. None of these pecker pole logs they haul out for 2x4s now, bend in the middle loads. These 3 guys are top notch HD farm equipment mechanics That Pete cab now is worth a fortune, probably more than the farm paid for the whole truck
What a sight to behold to see Scott absolutely hooning the Peterbilt through the field - while joyful laughing like being on a rollercoaster ride... 😁😁🤘🤘
What a HOOT! You three are living the dream. Just like the shop days of the late 60's. Whatever it was, tear it down, build it back better. Love the videos, the interaction, the editing, the whole production.. You guys rock. thanks
I'm glad you got help Scott taking that transmission and motor out of that truck we don't need no more broken arms so I'm glad you learned your lesson and have somebody there to help you whether it's your dad or your brother😊
Harbor freight makes a heavy duty truck u joint puller for $100. I work on trucks and use it regularly and no problems. Tiger tool also makes one. It’s a lot more 12:46
Those mechanical engines will run forever with good service. Our 2016 has been in the shop five times in the last four years for emission problems. New stuff is no longer better than the old stuff, at least when it comes to trucks and equipment.
The old stuff is getting old though. Age in itself makes machines less reliable too, despite the original design being far superior to the new stuff. Unless you replace or rebuild literally every single component, line and electrical cable there is a good chance you go from small problem to small problem all the time.
Just got done watching the engine pull. I am very jealous. I reviewed several of comments. You said the frame is aluminum......aluminum frame rails make very good front bumpers. Enjoy your channel.
Yes those CAT 3406 . A and B are great engines , had them in the steiger panthers 325 , series 3 and 4 . Thay lug down and pull , and come alive at night time , with the cool air . And sound sweet .
Thanks for another great video Welkers!!!!! It was really interesting and informative and entertaining for sure. I am sure there is a lot of pieces and parts off the old Peterbuilt you can use yet. Will be an excellent donor truck. Will be anxious to see what you have for the new truck that will receive this motor and transmission. Excited!!!!!!!! You all did an excellent job of pulling the motor and transmission and other miscellaneous parts and items. Shop looks nice cleaned up after all of that work. Maybe rig a stand for the motor on a temporary basis. Just a suggestion. I am sure lots of hard work ahead but I know the Welkers are up to the challenge. Go to it gentlemen!!!!!! Thanks for sharing your project with us. Looking forward to this project!!!! About it for now. You all take care and be safe. Thanks for everything. The Iowa farm boy. Steve. PS: 1. Please keep Scott out of the fields during kitty butt turns. 2. Liked the short video of Nick topping that old pine tree. Glad it was him and not me. Wow. Did a good job at it. Dangerous stuff. Thanks Nick for the video.
Always saddens me to see an old rig be scrapped. Wish I could save them all and keep 'em pristine. But I get why some have just driven their last mile and need to go away. At least you got to have a little fun with it before it being chopped up into pieces.
Just a fun poll…. Who would win in an arm wrestle Hollywood or leg arms…. Vote in the comments and I’ll tally it up and announce the winner in the next episode they drop maybe we can actually get them to arm wrestle!! Be fun
Finally get to see what the heck is going on. I've seen trucks and a motor in the background but never knew what was going on. Now we finally get to see.
I believe there's something blue going into the shop. I pretty sure it was in the background in a past episode a few back with the cat all dolled up. Another great episode, thanks and God bless.
Ran Pete's w aluminum frames back in the day (2 series needle nose). Yeah they crack now and then. MIG Gun was our answer. V it out and MIg it Then do a diamond shaped fish plate on the inside. If critical area, order full steel liner bent to shape. Most of our frames went about one crack a year, or less. It's my theory that it all depends on the suspension. My Pete had Page & Page walking beam rear suspension and I never cracked it. The air ride trucks seemed to crack more. I think it was a frequency thing ... 🙃
Ryobi makes a variety of 18 volt One+ lights. Several of them can be clamped anywhere you want them. One clampable light even has a 16" goose neck that will point the light anywhere that you want it.
For work lights, Braun's magnetic floor light and Olight's Swivel are both very nice. The latter also has a regular flashlight emitter. Both are bright, USB charged, can stand or be stuck to stuff with magnets, have 3 brightness levels, and cost about $30.
Hi guys I know a guy here in Minnesota that could fix your truck and it would be better then new. He would cut the frame off just under the cab and weld new frame rails Anand be better and stronger then new.
Paint the frame on your new build before you put the engine in the hole. If you can find a full locker for rear differential you will be so pleased with it in on the aproaches getting in and out of fields. It is worth looking around for. I wish I had the time I would come and hang out for a few days to help you guys out. I love bringing old this back to life. Must be the ADHD!
@@chrisanderson6837 They are not the same. The first 3406 block, now called the A model. It oiled the rocker arms via the head bolt holes. That caused problems, so the block was redesigned and changed the oil flow thru dowels for front and rear. When the B model came out the fuel system was moved forward. So an A model block cannot be used on a B model, as the fuel system will not mount up. Later the block again was redesigned to allow more coolant flow around the top of the liner. Then the E model came out and it has a single oil feed to the head for the rocker arms and camshaft.
My cousin has a 2004 379 white Peter built with 1576341 miles put a rebuilt cat 3406E engine in it and rebuilt transmission to match the rebuilt motor.
when leg arms was dragging that transmission out from under, i was thinking please dont re-injure that arm, it took a long time to heal and rehabilitate.
Ya know Scott... Most people think drifting a 4 axle truck like that is easy... Lol nicely done... But i know how hard ya had to try for those kinds of rooster tails...
Yes 3406E better engine but still had same oil leak area's as Mechanical 3406 did and still had liner issue eating into the block. Reason why so many rave over mechanical 3406 ability to crank engine up without anyone elses help. Turn 2 fuel screws out or take them all the way out seen that one. Love of rolling black smoke forever just wasting fuel (black smoke unburned fuel). Seen many mechanical engines with melts pistons and severely blow head gasket. Guys who put Cummins turbo on really melted things down. Terms best block and head with be C15 ACERT (BXS,MXS,NXS) they had more nickle in the iron making them harder. If you leave it with twin turbo on can get 60 psi of boost and they run hard
8, or 900 HP out of a Cat is Peanuts, Modified Semi Truck pullers are getting 4000+ HP out of them. Them may only run 300 feet and have to cool off, and they may burn 4 gallons of diesel in 300 feet but they are impressive. There are more than a few that run the roads every day that show up to Dyno Days competitions that are 1000+ hp
…… “Seems like we pull a lot of motors these days..” I think that’s ok!! Makes great content. I’m always learning something - and it means you didn’t have to outsource it somewhere else!!
Questions: Knowing this was not going to be a complete engine rebuild, before transplanting... Why not do an engine oil change and coolant flush, while it was still in the Beater Peter to clean excess dirt/crap out? Could you do a collab with the Diesel Bros with this engine transplant?
That dirt water looks like electrolysis. Causes the water to become acidic and actually eat away at iron. You’ll want to check your liners they may be pitted to the point where they will let water into the cylinder
No sure yet i seen the red and blue trucks in the back ground with no engines in and also seen a blue truck in the garage sprayed up lookin sharp i must say but didn't see enough to tell what it is
7:37 rebuild it put a new frame under it it's actually way cheaper it's not that expensive and transfer everything over! Make one hell of a truck out of it and put the drop axle on the back not the front on the back so it gives lift to the back and push the front down which is funny because the European trucks do that and the US trucks they don't and it doesn't make any sense! You would want the drop axle like the European trucks on the back side to push the front down so it gives you more control over the truck and steering but yet they put the drop axle in the middle which lifts the front of the truck not giving you stability or steering lol makes no sense! You can get another frame for rough like $4,000 that's in good condition and literally transfer everything over! Would not take much to do and have yourself a solid good truck again without any issues
Deboss garage had thier injection pump done by a guy up in Canada... I think Toronto area - but they did a whole episode on the injection pump in his 3406b that's in his K100! Go look, the guy who did deboss's pump knows what he is doing!
Truck probably has three plus million miles on it alone. Everyone but me loves petes. I started on petes but just prefer a W900 KW for my own rig to drive. Someone someplace must like KW's as they made a ton of them and they were not krazy nor stupid... sister rigs in the old days
It started in 1964 and the first ones had a forged body fuel system with a compression release. Then compact scroll came out. PCTA was 425 or 380 HT, PCT was 325 and other HP's in the mix.
@@johngoldsmith6629 I worked for a Cat dealer in the mid 1970s. Didn't work in the diesel shop. The truckers loved the 1693 then. For one the 379 Petes Were great But The 389 Series Were just a Touch Classier imho and the Aluminum Frames Were not Ideal for Farm use nor overweight Loads!
No mechanical block not exactly the same up to C18. 3406 E block still had front and rear cam bore, Cam tunnel was there but no cam bores and lifter bore part of block was removed. Still had oil drain and mount for injection pump on left side. Later E had oil cooler coolant connection moved to rear. Starting with C15 block was sculpted out to reduce weight. Could you make C18 or C16 out of C15 yes by changing liners and crank. Making 800 or 900hp is nice but in truck app they broke blocks and cranks because engine load always changing stressing parts more. Most industry apps and engine ran at same load and RPM all day long. Current Cummin ISX 15 Cummins have test engines running around at 750 and 1000 hp right now. Told never going to release them but being used for parts validation
Several more parts coming on this series, stay tuned!
If you guys scrapped the red pete does that mean a third truck will be purchased, or just sticking with the blue pete and IH Eagle?
Now i see why the cat engine was sitting on the stand while Scot was rebuilding his truck
You guys should take the cab ad go make a ATS setup so you or the kids or whoever can play with virtual trucks in a real truck cap

Current Cummin ISX 15 Cummins have test engines running around at 750 and 1000 hp right now. Told never going to release them but being used for parts validation
AWESOME!!!!!! Crazy new project time!!!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

You guys could save the tag axle off the Beater Pete as well & put that onto your "project truck"
