It's great when a reviewer brings both intelligence and heart to their evaluations as you do. I'm never disappointed by your videos. If there was one thing I could wish was addressed a little more when fantasy series are described by good Booktube channels it would be, for lack of a better term, the philosophical angle. Maybe my question isn't very relevant to the genre; in which case free to ignore.
Thank you so much, I really appreciate that! I want to make sure my content is engaging and meaningful. I think it really depends on what each reader wants out of their reading experience. First, love your hair! Second, I found a lot of value in this top ten list :) Many series that have already been on my list have moved up to higher priority.
I reread Lies of Locke Lamora this year and finally was able to see why it is so amazing- it went from being meh to being 5-stars, fantastic! I can't wait to continue reading, loved it so much!
I'm still relatively new to reading fantasy (3 or 4 years), and I haven't even finished a ton of them. That being said, Green Bone is hands down my favorite series. Lee was the first author that made me really care on an intimate level about all of the characters, and it solidified my love for the genre. Literally cannot stop thinking about it. Great list and can't wait to finish a bunch of these series myself!
I know I said this before in another Malazan video of yours that my Malazan journey is so similar to yours, where I read the first 4 books 12 years back, somehow couldn't continue, but still felt it is the best fantasy series of all time just below LOTR. Despite not finishing the series, for 10 years I used to advocate to everyone how great this is. Then I finally restarted it 3 years back and just finished it last year, and it became by far the best fantasy series of all time surpassing even LOTR, and I doubt anything else will ever change that. Still reading Kharkanas now. I am very excited for you to continue your reread, and get to book 5. Really want to see how you like the later books, as the last 4 books is when Erikson goes above and beyond what most other fantasy authors go for.

Coming to this super kate, but you have a fantastic list! I'll definitely have to check out Never Die and Long Price. I'm going to read Dagger and Coin pretty soon, so maybe next year for the latter. I haven't read a lot, so I'll just give my top 5 (sci-fi included) 1. Farseer Trilogy (Royal Assassin is my favorite book of all time) 2. Stormlight Archive (Ending of book 1 might be my best ever reading experience) 3. Faithful and the Fallen (never binged a book as fast as Wrath) 4. Blood Song (Only read this first book, but holy crap is it perfect!) 5. Sun Eater (Controversial take: Howling Dark is the best of the first 4)
The haircut looks good! And great list. Hard to argue with the picks, I've read everything except the Riverfall Chronicles and the last two Mortal Techniques books. Top 10s are hard to do, to be fair, and they're perfect for letting a viewer know right off the bat if your tastes are going to be of interest to them. They're usually the first thing I look for whenever I find a new channel I may want to sub to!
I agree! Top 10s are definitely important for learning about taste. I hope you enjoy your next reads, and I hope Mortal Techniques and Riverfall are on your TBR, they’re amazing!
1) The whole Totall Universe by Tamora Pierce 2) Stormlight Archives- Sanderson 3) The Lightbringer Series- Brent Weeks 4) Harry Potter 5) The King Killer Chronicles- Patrick Rothfuss (sadly this will most likely never be completed) 6) Gracling Realm - Kristin Cashore 7) Throne of Glass 8) The Kyoshi Novels- F.C. Yee 9) Percy Jackson
I won’t go a full Top Ten but I can give you my Top 3. 1- The Cosmere by Brandon Sanderson. The whole thing lol it’s so good 2- The Dresden Files. Easily the best Urban Fantasy with the most misunderstood, selfless, self-sacrificing, Protagonist I’ve ever seen. There’s no one you’d want next to you more on the worst day of your life. There are other phenomenal characters in this world but there aren’t many fictional characters on the same Tier as Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden 3- The Mercy Thompson Series. You talk about the Green Bone Saga and it’s lived in world and that’s the best way to describe this Series. You feel, even early on in Book 1 Moon Called, that you know Mercy like you’ve known her your whole life. Great Mash-up Verse with Werewolves, Witches, Vampires, Skinwalkers, Fae and more. Honorable Mention would be specifically The Dark Artifices Trilogy of the overall Shadowhunter Chronicles by Cassandra Clare. Don’t see Nephilim used as a powered character very often and it’s a nice change of pace. Another Mash-Up Verse like Mercy and Dresden (I’m sensing a pattern lol) with a great Lore. The Mortal Instruments Trilogies (yes there’s two of them lol) are good not great but I really connected with the characters in the Dark Artifices.
I feel the EXACT same way about Greenbone Saga. I knew I really liked it when I finished it but it just literally has not left my brain since. The way she writes the characters and their conversations has lingered with me so much more than I expected. She is an amazing writer
Dang surprised Mortal Techniques series is so high! I really did enjoy Never Die though fun, fast paced, great combat! I still need to read the other 2 books!
Excellent list and love the haircut. My top 2 series are Malazan (so amazing, everything you said) and then the realm of the elderlings (if you need me to break it down it would be all the Fitz trilogies)
The haircut looks great! And this is an awesome list, Tori! Top 10 is so hard! At the moment, I think only the top 4 are defined for me: 1. First Law 2. Realm of the Elderlings 3. ASOIAF 4. Warlord Chronicles I will be reading some from your list this year! Never Die, LPQ, and Scott Lynch are on the docket, so they may sneak into my list 😁
Awesome video Tori, I've heard so many great things about both Long Price and Malazan. It's probably an unpopular opinion, but I have an issue with the way Green Bone Saga was marketed as epic urban fantasy with magic, etc. I've read the whole thing, and I don't feel the magic had any significant impact on the story. However, if it would have been marketed as ninja gangster families showdown saga with martial arts, mayhem and blood, I would have absolutely given it 5 stars easily. But maybe that's just me...
Hey Yaniv! You’re absolutely allowed to have any opinions on series, that’s how discussions become interesting! I do think the magic has a strong influence on the story, but if it didn’t work for you, that’s ok!
Nothing will ever beat Malazan for me. The character depth, philosophy, comedy, and the beautiful writing makes it the most important piece of literature in existence IMO.
@@nightmarishcompositions4536 Funny enough, I read 2 Bakker books and they happen to be the #2 in my esteem. I still have yet to check Manifest Delusions.

I loved Malazan. Yeah some books were more "difficult" - you may not catch everything going on, but man I blew through the books, I was so immersed. I think Memories of Ice and The Bonehunters are my favorites - MOI is the one I think about the most when it comes to the entire series. Have you read Gwynne's latest series? I loved the Faithful and the Fallen but had trouble getting into the The Shadow of the Gods, I want to give it another go soon!
I also had trouble getting into Shadow of the Gods... I may pick the sequel back up at some point in the future. Memories of Ice is a killer book. Deadhouse Gates is my favorite!
My 10 favourites series of all time so far are 10. Dune 9. The Wheel of time (the first seven books only) 8. The Farseer Trilogy(the first book only) 7. Memory,Sorrow and thorn( the first two books only) 6. Gentleman Bastards 5. The Kingkiller Chronichle 4. The Stormlight Archive ( the first book only) 3. Malazan book of the fallen ( the first book only) 2. The First Law World 1. A Song of Ice and Fire
A great list, Tori! Thanks for succumbing to the BookTube Top 10 train lol. I really need to read LPQ and Green Bone Saga - both priorities for me probably next year. Oh, and if it looks like I just subbed, it appears I must have accidentally unsubbed at some point! (But I did the same thing with Daniel Greene a few months back, so you're in good company. I shouldn't TH-cam on my phone without my reading glasses!) 🤣
Thanks so much, Josh! I predict that you will absolutely love LPQ, I can't wait for you to read both series! No worries on the sub, I appreciate you coming back XD
I really thought Red Rising would have made the top 10. Also, I'm hoping that Greenbone pays off for me. I've got the library checkout of Jade War that I'm going to read on vacation next week. Great list! And for number 10, TRUTH AND COURAGE!!
Top 5: 1. LotR. Everything else pales in comparison. I read it at 11 years old and a passion was born. 2.. First Law Trilogy. Oh, the characters! 3. ASOIAF (3 great books and then....?) I think this will tumble down my list if GRRM doesn't finish it. 4, All of Robert E Howard's Conan stories (these were the stories that showed my 12 year old self that fantasy could operate in a different mode than Tolkien - it was the 80s and the market was flooded with cheap Tolkien clones. Conan is flawed but brilliant, but not for modern sensibilities). 5. Not a series, but Neil Gaiman's American God's is just one of the most original books I have ever read. 15 years later entire scenes spring to mind. Honourable mention: Titus Groan by Mervyn Peake. It was so different, so ponderous but simultaneously familiar (being English) that it took all my will power to finish it; but, somehow, it made an indelible mark on me. For good or ill? I'm still not sure.

I looked it up out of curiosity, and I think either one works, because one of the definitions is: a set of four people or things. But for some reason I didn’t connect tetralogy with four book series, so thanks for sharing that!
Nice list. We actually only share one in our top 10 though I've read at least one book from 6 of your top 10. I wasn't a fan of the Farseer trilogy; just didn't like the character of Fitz; I read two books and had to put it down; I did like her writing and most of her other characters; but if I don't like the main POV character I'm probably not going to like the books either. I also wasn't that big of a fan of Gentleman Bastards but that is one I think I will revisit one day. Faithful and the Fallen, Mistborn Era 1 and ASOIAF have all been in my top 10 at one point or the other but have fallen out of it in recent years. All of them are still in my top 25 though. Here is my current top 10: 10. The Belgariad/Malloreon by David Eddings (been in my top 10 for 30 years; heavy nostalgia pick) 9. KIngkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss (I expect this will drop out of my top 10 in the next year or so; for the same reason ASOIAF is no longer there; it will never be finished) 8. The Band by Nicolaus Eames(only 2 books but I think it will be finished sooner rather than later) 7. Broken Empire/Red Queen's War by Mark Lawrence (new entry this year; I group them together because they tell two sides of the same story basically) 6. Mistborn Era 2 (I liked the characters a lot better in Era 2 than I did in Era 1) 5. Malazan Book of the Fallen (the best world building in fantasy. Period. But I liked the characters of the 4 ahead of it better; the way Erikson wrote the story it took me awhile to really get attached to anyone) 4. Drenai Saga by David Gemmell (been in my top 10 for 25+ years; I've cried more to this series than I ever have for things that happened in real life including close relatives funerals; not sure what that says about me but there it is, lol) 3. Stormlight Archive by Sanderson (already ignored your rule about 3 books and now I'm ignoring the one about multiple series by the same author; technically Sanderson is involved in 3 of my all time favorites; oddly enough he isn't my favorite living author though; book 5 coming out in Dec may change things up a bit) 2. First Law universe by Joe Abercrombie (Joe is my favorite living author; at times it just seems like he is writing for me personally, lol. In his book The Heroes is felt like he was in my head and took portions of my personality and created two of the main POV characters; just absolutely amazing character work. But he isn't my favorite author of all time) 1. Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan/Sanderson (been my favorite series since 1997 and will probably always will be; these characters became my friends over the course of this series; when it ended in 2013 I went into an EIGHT YEAR reading slump because of it; it felt like I had lost someone really dear to me; I loved the ending and I absolutely hated it at the same time) I love watching lists like this; TH-cam keeps me updated on them pretty well, lol. I get all kinds of ideas from them; I'll have to look into the Mortal Techniques series; first time I have seen it mentioned.
Great list! Fitz can be a tough character for a lot of readers, I totally get that. I like making these to see how the list will change over time! I’m glad Wheel of Time had such an impact on you, those experiences with stories are so powerful.
My top 10: 1) Lord of the Rings 2) The Gormenghast Trilogy 3) The Riftwar Saga 4) The First Law 5) A Song of Ice and Fire 6) The Lies of Locke LaMorre 7) The Dresden Files 8) The Dark Tower 9) The Dark Elf 10) The Chronicles of Narnia
3 full books read would stomp most of booktoober lol whenever i watch other ppl videos they stop at book 1 of almost every series. It usually sounds like i loved this series so much i didnt read anything after book 1😅 good air of fresh air here
It's definitely tempting to constantly try new authors and series! I won't put anything in my top 10 series list without having read at least 3 books, which covers trilogies and a decent chunk of the longer series. Thank you so much for watching!
I DNF Mistborn and Jade City. Sanderson and I do not mix. Also, Lies Of Lock Lamora DNF. Malazan, I might give it a go but I did DNF Gardens of the Moon with my first try. Fantasy (No scifi included) 1. The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever 2. Kingkiller 3. Conan the Barbarian 4. A D&D trilogy starting with White Plume Mountain 5. Nevernight 6. Tad Williams Bobby Dollar with the 2nd book one I could not put down. 7 The Grave of Empires by Sam Sykes. 8. Ethshar by Lawrence Watt-Evans 9. LOTR 10. A Short Stay In Hell. I am not sure of this order but this'll do for now.
I also did not finish Lies of L.Lamora or Jade city. The characters did not grab me, and the story felt flat. And I am on the fence about whether or not to try Mazalan.
🔟 “Top Tens are not easy! I’ve thought about this for weeks.” And that will be why I don’t have my own top ten to drop in the comments I’m afraid 😁 I couldn’t even do a SciFi list, and I’m a natural SciFi-boy over Fantasy. Some of my major 5⭐️ awards are from a couple of decades ago. Should I do a re-read to see how they hold up to this day? 🤔Probably can’t rank ‘em without doing so 😰
No tolkein makes me a little sad, but a good list nonetheless, loved Mistborn, song of ice and fire, Gentleman bastard Malazan, John Gwynne and Robin hobb all on my tbr
I just finished Dandelion Dynasty by Ken Liu. My god the world building, political intrigue, the battles AMAZING. Book 2 wall of storms might be my favorite fantasy book of all time.
1. malazan world (everything incl novels) 2. First law world incl (Specially age of madness) 3. Prince of nothing Universe 4. a Song of ice and Fire 5. stormlight Archive 6. gentlemen bastards 7. mistborn 8. the demon cycle 9. the broken Empire 10. the Dresden files HM: Lord of the rings, Harry Potter, kingkiller chronicles and the will of the many
Great list. Your thoughts on each series is helpful to consider reading these sooner. My list is as follows. 1. Lord of the Rings 2. The Second Apocalypse 3. The Dark Tower 4. The First Law 5. Shades of Magic 6. His Dark Materials 7. The Old Kingdom 8. The Chronicles of Narnia 9. The Broken Empire 10. The Seven Realms Happy reading
I'm not even going to try to rate the series, nor do I guarantee that what follows are even my top series, but they're what come to mind right now. Caveats: No straight LitRPG or Super Hero books, which feel like different genres from fantasy. No LotR, because it's a novel, not a series. No sub-series, because that's even more too hard than this already is. And my Top 10 is in base-12 today. * Dresden Files, Jim Butcher * Amber, Roger Zelazny * Garrett, P.I., Glen Cook * Midkemia, Raymond Feist * Valdemar, Mercedes Lackey * Paladin's Legacy, Elizabeth Moon * Vlad Taltos, Steven Brust * Five Gods World (Penric & Chalion), Lois McMaster Bujold * Guardians of the Flame, Joel Rosenberg * Myth Adventures, Robert Asprin * War God's Own, David Weber * Monster Hunter International, Larry Correia
Haircut is A+ Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for just singling out a particular series from "The Realm of the Elderlings". I hate when people lump everything from the "The Realm of the Elderlings" as 1 thing when they are essentially 3 different series....The Fitz and Fool stuff being 1(and my fav), The MadShip(only read the first book but was just meh and didn't read more) stuff is completely different and a separate series and the RainWild Chronicles(just stayed away from as it doesn't seem like many people at all really like it) is yet another different series. Also, thank you for NOT including LoTR or TWoT. : )
You’re welcome! ☺️ I haven’t read LOTR or TWoT, so I can’t include them. But I don’t intend to read TWoT. I’m excited to keep going with Tawny Man in the Elderlings. Liveships wasn’t for me.
My top 5 Fantasy series: 1. "The Dandelion Dynasty" - Ken Liu 2. "Between Earth and Sky" - Rebecca Roanhorse 3. "The Broken Earth" - N. K. Jemisin 4. "The Poppy War" - R. F. Kuang 5. "The Winnowing Flame"- Jen Williams
I haven’t read a lot of fantasy, but my top ten probably looks something like: 1. Harry Potter 2. The Faithful and the Fallen 3. The Wheel of Time 4. The Lord of the Rings 5. The Chronicles of Conan 6. The Riyria Revelations 7. The Dresden Files 8. Chronicles of Narnia 9. The Legends of Drizzt 10. Mistborn Era 1 This list will subject to change and I’m sure will not look remotely similar after I’ve read more, but this is it as it stands right now. I fully expect Malazan, Memory, Sorrow and Thorn and the Realm of the Elderlings to be in the Top 10 at some point.
I’m not sure I’ve read enough Sci Fi for a top 10 yet! I’m still sort of combining SFF in general, but I read mostly fantasy. I’m working on reading more sci fi going forward.
I will never ever move Malazan as my GOAT. Ever since I've finished it almostt3 years ago, I'm still struggling to find anything close to it. The only thing I can think of is Bakker's Second Apocalypse.
Top Ten (?) 1. Realm of the Elderlings 2. King killer 3. Song of ice and fire 4. Kelewan 5. Osten Ard 6. Dark Elve Trilogy 7. Seven Kennings 8. Pern 9. Dark Tower 10. That Hogwarts thing ...
@@ToriTalks2 It is a side quest to the Midkemia-Saga of Raymond Feist. Written together with Janny Wurts. Really like it a lot. A kind of a female Shogun in fantasy land.
It surprises me when people say they’re excited for gentleman bastards 4. Books 2 and 3 sucked so much compared to book 1. It just went downhill for me as the series went on.
Interesting list. Some I haven't heard of before and will check out. Some I disagree with but nobody agrees with everything. Just want to point out that Wu Xia is Chinese, not Japanese. No biggie.

2. Stormlight Archive (Ending of book 1 might be my best ever reading experience)
3. Faithful and the Fallen (never binged a book as fast as Wrath)
4. Blood Song (Only read this first book, but holy crap is it perfect!)
5. Sun Eater (Controversial take: Howling Dark is the best of the first 4)
Not late, and what a great list!
I loved Blood Song too. I can't wait to read more Anthony Ryan!
@@ToriTalks2 Thanks and same! I did buy the Heroic Age trilogy edition with all 3 Mortal Techniques books, so they're definitely on the TBR, at least!
1) The whole Totall Universe by Tamora Pierce
2) Stormlight Archives- Sanderson
3) The Lightbringer Series- Brent Weeks
4) Harry Potter
5) The King Killer Chronicles- Patrick Rothfuss (sadly this will most likely never be completed)
6) Gracling Realm - Kristin Cashore
7) Throne of Glass
8) The Kyoshi Novels- F.C. Yee
9) Percy Jackson
I won’t go a full Top Ten but I can give you my Top 3.
1- The Cosmere by Brandon Sanderson. The whole thing lol it’s so good
2- The Dresden Files. Easily the best Urban Fantasy with the most misunderstood, selfless, self-sacrificing, Protagonist I’ve ever seen. There’s no one you’d want next to you more on the worst day of your life. There are other phenomenal characters in this world but there aren’t many fictional characters on the same Tier as Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden
3- The Mercy Thompson Series.
Reading Jade War atm.Amazing books! 😮
Love the new Summer cut. Love this list! Love this channel!
Thank you John!
I loves this list l. There were many series I hadn't heard of before!
Dang surprised Mortal Techniques series is so high! I really did enjoy Never Die though fun, fast paced, great combat! I still need to read the other 2 books!
Loved this video Tori! So glad to see ASOIAF on here. Green Bone Saga is great too. I prefer Era 2 of Mistborn over era 1 lol.
Really? I know a couple other people who like Era 2 better as well. 💜 Thank you so much for watching.
I do prefer era 1, but i love that so many people prefer the second. It shows that both are great!
Excellent list and love the haircut. My top 2 series are Malazan (so amazing, everything you said) and then the realm of the elderlings (if you need me to break it down it would be all the Fitz trilogies)
Great combo!
So wonderful to see FatF on here! I really need to read more Malazan!
Ed
It’s a great series! 🔥 Maquin stole my heart. I hope you have a great time with Malazan when you get back to it!
Love the hair and the list!!! 💓💓
Thank you!!!
The haircut looks great! And this is an awesome list, Tori!
Top 10 is so hard! At the moment, I think only the top 4 are defined for me:
1. First Law
2. Realm of the Elderlings
3. ASOIAF
4. Warlord Chronicles
I will be reading some from your list this year! Never Die, LPQ, and Scott Lynch are on the docket, so they may sneak into my list 😁
Thank you so much, Zammar! I think that’s a solid top four 🔥 I would love to hear your thoughts on all three of those series, they’re amazing!
@@ToriTalks2 I will keep you updated as I go through them! 😁🤘🏼
@@ZOMGfantasy yes please do!
Great list! I still can't be convinced to read Malazan but you do make it sound good.
That’s absolutely okay, Trin. Read what makes you excited!
Great list! Like seeing a few different series that we don't see as much!
Thanks Laura! I’m in search of those rarer gems. 😊💜
Love the hair!!
Thank you!
I am still focused on sci-fi but Mistborn and Green Bone are two series I want to try when I eventually dip my toe into fantasy waters!
I think you would really enjoy both of those! Great picks 🫡
great list! some are also are mine for sure. love the summer haircut!
Thanks Brian! 🔥
I need to read the Farseer books. I don't think I've ever heard a bad review.
I have been waiting for this
🔥🔥🔥
Yessss Farseer🎉🎉🎉 LPQ!!🎉🎉🎉 I'm still planning to get to J. Hagan's books. I own the first 3. I just want there to be more books out before I start. 😅
That’s totally fair! I think you’re going to love them. 💜
Like ur top 10 list!! Happy reading to you!! 😊😊
Thank you! 😊
Nothing will ever beat Malazan for me. The character depth, philosophy, comedy, and the beautiful writing makes it the most important piece of literature in existence IMO.
No arguments here!
Have you ever tried Second Apocalypse or Manifest Delusions? Those are amazing fantasy series in a similar ballpark.
@@nightmarishcompositions4536 Funny enough, I read 2 Bakker books and they happen to be the #2 in my esteem. I still have yet to check Manifest Delusions.
@@nightmarishcompositions4536 funny enough, I read the first two books of Prince of Nothing and they currently fall as #2 in my esteem. I will have yet to check out Manifest Delusions
@@nightmarishcompositions4536 funny enough, I read the first two books of Prince of Nothing and they currently fall as #2 in my esteem. I will have yet to check out Manifest Delusions
Everybody loves a top 10!!! hahah
My 10 favourites series of all time so far are
10. Dune
9. The Wheel of time (the first seven books only)
8. The Farseer Trilogy(the first book only)
7. Memory,Sorrow and thorn( the first two books only)
6. Gentleman Bastards
5. The Kingkiller Chronichle
4. The Stormlight Archive ( the first book only)
3. Malazan book of the fallen ( the first book only)
2. The First Law World
1. A Song of Ice and Fire
Some great titles in that list!
LPQ yeesss!!! 🥰100% agree, it is SO underrated!
💯💯💯
We have so many in common even though we have super different opinions on a few! This is another reminder I really need to read Wickwire Watch
Yes you do! And I have noticed the same thing, we might have more similar taste than we thought 😂
I really thought Red Rising would have made the top 10. Also, I'm hoping that Greenbone pays off for me. I've got the library checkout of Jade War that I'm going to read on vacation next week. Great list! And for number 10, TRUTH AND COURAGE!!
Red Rising is my favorite series overall, but it’s not fantasy. That’s why it’s not on the list 🥰 But you’re right, it’s on top for me.
See, that's the detail I missed, was just thinking series as a whole, lol
@@adamborst I included it last year but everyone was confused because it wasn’t fantasy, so this year I just kept it simple 😂
Top 5:
Some great reads on this list! Love it. 🔥
Treach/ trake

First child of the seed of the dead
Capustan

Fun fact, a 4 book series is called a tetralogy. A quartet is a musical group 😊
I looked it up out of curiosity, and I think either one works, because one of the definitions is: a set of four people or things. But for some reason I didn’t connect tetralogy with four book series, so thanks for sharing that!
LPQ is so underrated.
It's "What if poets had to lawyer Mr. Meseeks into harvesting grain"
💯
After I finished the sword of kaigen, I'm going to try gardens of the moon for my 3rd time lol
I hope 3rd time is the charm for you!
Love your haircut!
Thank you!
Here is my current top 10:
10. The Belgariad/Malloreon by David Eddings (been in my top 10 for 30 years; heavy nostalgia pick)
9. KIngkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss (I expect this will drop out of my top 10 in the next year or so; for the same reason ASOIAF is no longer there; it will never be finished)
8. The Band by Nicolaus Eames(only 2 books but I think it will be finished sooner rather than later)
7. Broken Empire/Red Queen's War by Mark Lawrence (new entry this year; I group them together because they tell two sides of the same story basically)
6. Mistborn Era 2 (I liked the characters a lot better in Era 2 than I did in Era 1)
5. Malazan Book of the Fallen (the best world building in fantasy. Period. But I liked the characters of the 4 ahead of it better; the way Erikson wrote the story it took me awhile to really get attached to anyone)
4. Drenai Saga by David Gemmell (been in my top 10 for 25+ years; I've cried more to this series than I ever have for things that happened in real life including close relatives funerals; not sure what that says about me but there it is, lol)
3. Stormlight Archive by Sanderson (already ignored your rule about 3 books and now I'm ignoring the one about multiple series by the same author; technically Sanderson is involved in 3 of my all time favorites; oddly enough he isn't my favorite living author though; book 5 coming out in Dec may change things up a bit)
2. First Law universe by Joe Abercrombie (Joe is my favorite living author; at times it just seems like he is writing for me personally, lol. In his book The Heroes is felt like he was in my head and took portions of my personality and created two of the main POV characters; just absolutely amazing character work. But he isn't my favorite author of all time)
1. Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan/Sanderson (been my favorite series since 1997 and will probably always will be; these characters became my friends over the course of this series; when it ended in 2013 I went into an EIGHT YEAR reading slump because of it; it felt like I had lost someone really dear to me; I loved the ending and I absolutely hated it at the same time)
I love watching lists like this; TH-cam keeps me updated on them pretty well, lol.
The Dark Tower is my favorite series.
I’ve heard great things!
Your hair looks great!!
Thanks, Trin!
My top 10:
1) Lord of the Rings
2) The Gormenghast Trilogy
3) The Riftwar Saga
4) The First Law
5) A Song of Ice and Fire
6) The Lies of Locke LaMorre
7) The Dresden Files
8) The Dark Tower
9) The Dark Elf
10) The Chronicles of Narnia
Great list!
Fantasy (No scifi included)
1. The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever
2. Kingkiller
3. Conan the Barbarian
4. A D&D trilogy starting with White Plume Mountain
5. Nevernight
6. Tad Williams Bobby Dollar with the 2nd book one I could not put down.
7 The Grave of Empires by Sam Sykes.
8. Ethshar by Lawrence Watt-Evans
9. LOTR
10. A Short Stay In Hell.
I am not sure of this order but this'll do for now.
I also did not finish Lies of L.Lamora or Jade city. The characters did not grab me, and the story felt flat. And I am on the fence about whether or not to try Mazalan.
@@shadowdancenz I think it an interesting triangle that I love Covenant but DNF Malazan, but the author of Covenant loves Malazan.
Malazan is my favorite series and it's not even close.
🤔Probably can’t rank ‘em without doing so 😰
I think a reread is a great idea! I love seeing how old favorites hold up.
No tolkein makes me a little sad, but a good list nonetheless, loved Mistborn, song of ice and fire,
Gentleman bastard Malazan, John Gwynne and Robin hobb all on my tbr
I haven’t read LotR yet :) I’m hoping to soon, I just got through the Hobbit this year for the first time and had a great time.
@@ToriTalks2 nice! I read them when I was a kid and it’s been my favourite since! I hope you enjoy them! It’s inspired many authors and readers!
Malazan just hits different 😎
Yes it does 🤘🏻
I just finished Dandelion Dynasty by Ken Liu. My god the world building, political intrigue, the battles AMAZING. Book 2 wall of storms might be my favorite fantasy book of all time.
That’s a series I’m really excited to read someday!!! 😍 I’m glad you had such a good time with it!
1. malazan world (everything incl novels)
2. First law world incl (Specially age of madness)
3. Prince of nothing Universe
4. a Song of ice and Fire
5. stormlight Archive
6. gentlemen bastards
7. mistborn
8. the demon cycle
9. the broken Empire
10. the Dresden files
HM: Lord of the rings, Harry Potter, kingkiller chronicles and the will of the many
Great list! 🔥
Great list. Your thoughts on each series is helpful to consider reading these sooner. My list is as follows.
1. Lord of the Rings
2. The Second Apocalypse
3. The Dark Tower
4. The First Law
5. Shades of Magic
6. His Dark Materials
7. The Old Kingdom
8. The Chronicles of Narnia
9. The Broken Empire
10. The Seven Realms
Happy reading
Awesome! Thanks so much for watching, you’ve got some awesome reads on here, and a lot I haven’t read yet!
My top 3 are
1 Stormlight Archives
2LOTR
3Mistborn
Solid list!
* Dresden Files, Jim Butcher
* Amber, Roger Zelazny
* Garrett, P.I., Glen Cook
* Midkemia, Raymond Feist
* Valdemar, Mercedes Lackey
* Paladin's Legacy, Elizabeth Moon
* Vlad Taltos, Steven Brust
* Five Gods World (Penric & Chalion), Lois McMaster Bujold
* Guardians of the Flame, Joel Rosenberg
* Myth Adventures, Robert Asprin
* War God's Own, David Weber
* Monster Hunter International, Larry Correia
Haircut is A+
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for just singling out a particular series from "The Realm of the Elderlings".
Twot. Lmao!
You’re welcome! ☺️ I haven’t read LOTR or TWoT, so I can’t include them. But I don’t intend to read TWoT.
I’m excited to keep going with Tawny Man in the Elderlings. Liveships wasn’t for me.
My top 5 Fantasy series:
1. "The Dandelion Dynasty" - Ken Liu
2. "Between Earth and Sky" - Rebecca Roanhorse
3. "The Broken Earth" - N. K. Jemisin
4. "The Poppy War" - R. F. Kuang
5. "The Winnowing Flame"- Jen Williams
I can’t wait to try Dandelion Dynasty!
My top 5:
The Stormlight Archive
A Song of Ice and Fire
Mistborn
The Broken Earth Trilogy
The Winnowing Flame
Great list!
I haven’t read a lot of fantasy, but my top ten probably looks something like:
1. Harry Potter
2. The Faithful and the Fallen
3. The Wheel of Time
4. The Lord of the Rings
5. The Chronicles of Conan
6. The Riyria Revelations
7. The Dresden Files
8. Chronicles of Narnia
9. The Legends of Drizzt
10. Mistborn Era 1
This list will subject to change and I’m sure will not look remotely similar after I’ve read more, but this is it as it stands right now. I fully expect Malazan, Memory, Sorrow and Thorn and the Realm of the Elderlings to be in the Top 10 at some point.
Great list, and I hope you have some fantastic reads coming up in the other series!
So the Sci Fi video is up next?
I’m not sure I’ve read enough Sci Fi for a top 10 yet! I’m still sort of combining SFF in general, but I read mostly fantasy. I’m working on reading more sci fi going forward.
The hairdo is super cute!
Thanks!
I will never ever move Malazan as my GOAT. Ever since I've finished it almostt3 years ago, I'm still struggling to find anything close to it. The only thing I can think of is Bakker's Second Apocalypse.
I totally get it. I’ve thought about trying Bakker but I think it’s going to be darker than I want to read.
Top Ten (?)
1. Realm of the Elderlings
2. King killer
3. Song of ice and fire
4. Kelewan
5. Osten Ard
6. Dark Elve Trilogy
7. Seven Kennings
8. Pern
9. Dark Tower
10. That Hogwarts thing ...
Great list! I haven’t heard of Kelewan before. 👀
@@ToriTalks2 It is a side quest to the Midkemia-Saga of Raymond Feist. Written together with Janny Wurts. Really like it a lot. A kind of a female Shogun in fantasy land.
🔥🔥🔥
It surprises me when people say they’re excited for gentleman bastards 4. Books 2 and 3 sucked so much compared to book 1. It just went downhill for me as the series went on.
I actually really loved book 2. Book 3 was okay, not as good, but I still loved the characters.
What 😢No red rising???!!!!

Me too. It’s so vast.
Interesting list. Some I haven't heard of before and will check out. Some I disagree with but nobody agrees with everything. Just want to point out that Wu Xia is Chinese, not Japanese. No biggie.
Thank you, I appreciate that! I believe Hayes had inspiration from both.
Nothing is like Malazan.
Thankfully nothing is like Malazan.👎🙄
