Cuttin' Trees 1 Falling Compilation with Daniel Murphy

- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 1 ม.ค. 2010
- Daniel Murphy demonstrates precision falling techniques and some tree rigging in this 10 minute compilation of dozens of tree drops, comeing down fast, shown from many different camera angles and perpectives.
Some people who watch these don’t understand that lives can be lost if anyone attempts these kinds of things and it goes wrong. Homes and businesses can be destroyed. Power lines, vehicles, mailboxes, other trees you don’t want damaged, just make a list. Daniel makes this look so easy that any average person might be like “hey man I can do this too!” but no, you can’t 😂 I came back to watch this again and I’m still amazed at this stuff.
Amen Brother! People ask me to come cut down trees just because I cut my firewood. I won’t do it if the tree is within 100’ of ANYTHING. 😀
I’m a tree trimmer. Good guy I worked with kept walking under people dropping branches just being unaware and got hit with a 150 pound branch. Crunched his entire body. Broke his spine and won’t be able to turn his neck for the rest of his life. I was 20 feet away screaming at him to get out of the way but the chainsaw and chipper were too loud.
Daniel Murphy ......you are simply one of the best cutters I've seen in a long time .
Daniel, thanks for your service.
May this video also be a tribute to tree men that payed the ultimate price.
Dangerous and rewarding, challenging work..
Job well done.
John
Great videos, I have been falling trees for my sawmill/firewood business for years. I learned from a group of Amish horse loggers 20 years ago, but I still go back through your videos every fall as a refresher/reminder course. Stay safe and thanks, Gary
I think you guys are a first class act! Other tree service companies should see this video and use it for their gold standard! Jim.
It's a thing of beauty to watch people who know what they're doing - no matter what it is.
That's the reason for all those accidents among the hobby arborists - you guys make it look so easy!
I was just looking for some pointers to cut down a couple of small trees, and I came across this video. I ended up watching the whole thing through. Just a great video. Thanks.
Murphy knows what he is doing...No houses was hurt while cutting down these trees...Good job...
Wow, talk about some accurate falls. Great work man, you have a talent.
Your taste in music is as damn fine as your tree skills. Thanks for sharing, saw on ! ! !
@everything there is always a reason why I notch at any particular height. It's extremely rare that I get paid for logs. So preserving board feet is almost never a concern. When it is, I cut a nice low humboldt. Many of those cuts were made a little high just to provide a better camera angle. I often cut low, well into the trunk flare, so that I can grind the stump without the need to flush off the stump. cuts can be made high to get above dirt or shorten the fall in a tight DZ
My 2 year old son is obsessed with this video. thanks!
Bro, the accuracy of some of these falls is almost unbelievable. There is NO way in hell I could even attempt some of these. Just awesome talent man.
Incredible video! Thank You for sharing with us. Be safe and have a good day
Really enjoyed these vids Daniel, superb skill and safe felling of even the worst of back leaners!!!
Lincolns Finest Tree Service likes this compilation .. Removal of hazards and making room to grow... Great technique and the music is pretty good too! Lol
8 years later still my favorite tree work video Murf is the king of floppin them
Now THAT was worth the watch, Dan.
Often wondered how you guys did this. And now I know why I will never do this type of work. Great video, great music, great editing. Keep your blade sharp and a tight line. Thanks.
Man, it's hard enough just getting things to fall the way you want...then being able to make videos and share it with the rest of us...awesome display Daniel. I dig the music too...instruments made from trees! Haha
great falling video .
Nicely done! I see big stacks of firewood when I watch things like this.
This is a fine display of talent. Lot of nice work here.
Thanks for showing the basics in such a great video. I'm gonna go cut some wood...
Awesome work. I just smiled while watching those fells.
Good to see there are folks who know what their doing.
Its so satisfying watching such accuracy. :)
i remembered watching this video when i was 5, still nostalgia today😢
that's awesome... glad to hear it... got a letter from a young amn who was 4 or 5 at the time... Kept it on the refrigerator. I couldn't read it outload without crying myself for years
GREAT PORTFOLIO YOU HAVE DEFINITELY FELLED SOME TREES
Excellent work, keep safe and watch for falling tops.
When you know what you are doing ,, looks so easy ,, well done guys ,,
great work, I enjoyed the memory lane.
your a master daniel well done
major barbacher at the end with that drop cut, start early, drop the shit large as possible, sweat your ass off, buck it, chip it, and god knows that cold beer at the end of the day tastes great, tired as hell, but still full of adrenalin, with the stories, are what makes you go back at it the next day. all love for tree men, bravest, hardest workers on the fucking planet.
my favorite is the high hinge to avoid the fancy sidewalk. good job!
Like a boss! so close to power lines and other obstacles! props dude
Excellent work!
At first I was like "Wha?" and then I was like "Dang!" 'cause that's some good tree cuttin' right there. And there's even a bucket truck at the end there! Great vid!
U r right for sure. It also keeps limbs from breaking off in the ground as I had a few to do and some hard to get out of the ground but I usually use limbs/branches to add weight to the way I want it to land around my house. I guess it's like to each their own. Depends on where Im cutting and whether they mind if some branch is down in the yard or not also. Murphy has a good point also for clearance
Fun video. Amazing tree falling skills
Cutting trees in fell swoops. Nice accuracy too--impressive.
Wow completely accurate and on point!! Nice cuts and video. By the way, besides the Zog Bogbean, what are the other two songs in the video??
you are an artist my friend....much respect
@ohiomonsters1990 Thank you very much... Its nice to hear that type of feedback.. I sure hear enough of the other!
Great work!! (great film editing too)
That is the case from time to time. If I take limbs off the font, and leave them on the back, its for clearance.. back weight is not a problem as long as there is enough force on the pull line to get the tree to commit to the lay before the hinge breaks. no different than pulling a back leaner. Lots of factors to consider though.
Best example of this is in "cuttin' Trees 4" @ 2:37. big locust, limbs on the back side were all over the house, took off the front for clearance and dropped the rest
At first one would think..why throw weight in favor wrong way….well once you’ve got the right pull on it…many factors determined you can save out the lawn and for sure good reason if there’s septic near…👊🏻..always method to the madness…
I wish more pro's like this would make frag movies lol
Awsome drops my friend. Like 1:11 right between house and pole lamp. Risky business but so much fun. Best job in the world. Very nice precision.
Take care and stay safe:)
@motoliterider both, though mostly to protect the lawn, yard, curb etc.. Nice to keep the logs out of the dirt too..
@motoliterider Not necessarily.. if the notch was made with a level cut, then it is simply easy to start at one corner of the notch, adjust the height relative to the notch as desired (usually 1" or less above), then swing the saw around, and as long as the backcut is also a level cut, it will remain at the desired height above the face.. Often easier, though with anything complicated I most often plunge the back cut.. If you cut too much of the corner, it might effect the fall.
Nice work, Daniel!
Kid you got Skills
i own a cut above tree service of white bear lake mn. and i love this vidio nice job man.
Damn good rigging Dan!
very nice dan .
I dont have anything to do with this, im from a city. But damn this was the most enjoyable video i watched in quite some time :O
Boy, you sure know how to cut down trees! Make it look easy.
Prior to this video I watched tree cutting gone wrong. Then I watched this video...LOL WOW You guys are like tree surgeons...LOL
5 Stars brother! It must be nice to have those wide open spaces to fall whole trees...
Amazingly skilled and very dangerous!
I bet you puckered a little bit on 8:53 haha. Nice vid... and I'm impressed, at the accuracy and the sheer number of jobs you have racked up
@CKS5000 One might leave a little more holding wood (HW) on one side (or sometimes COMPLETELY cut the wood on one side) when the lean of the tree would make it break off early if left even all the way across. It's to keep the tree hinged as desired. You can eliminate the HW from that side and leave the tree to hold onto the stump until the face closes and breaks off where you originally had it gunned. The man in this video definitely knows his way around a stump and it shows.
You know its time for bed when you end up watching videos of trees falling down...
Nice Job,,Wish we had that kinda drop zone down in congested south florida,"lotta zero lot line properties",Tiny lots, excessive powerlines, etc.Could use a few like you, down here..Lotta 70'+ Royal palms"very hard to spike",and Northfork pines, growing in very tight spots...And a severe shortage of expierienced fellers.Again, nice work.
I'm getting there...taking a check ride next week to be multi engine rated, I will be comercial in about 6 weeks, then 8 weeks to become a teacher. I have to learn the fundamentals of teaching without having a big stick in my hand
great video Thanks for sharing.
Great curting!
A Pro at work! Awesome!
Text Book Perfect ! this should be used for instructional purposes.
You guys get it done! Going large on all your cuts.
@EroticCakes gnerally if I can make the cut low enough to grind the stump w/o making a flush cut, I will, as long as its an easy drop with no side weight or other concerns. Hinge wood above the trunk flare is more reliable so anything tricky will usually get cut above the flare. Sometimes cuts are made high to shorten the fall in a tight DZ or even for a better video angle.. see my other vids "step cut 2" and "step cut 3" to see another trick used to keep the hinge above the flare and still low
you know when a pro is doing it because it looks so easy!
awesome work man!
@highcountrytimber Dutchman normally refers to an unintentional bypass dutchman, in other words bypassing the two cuts that make the face. This is the #1 mistake made by novice fallers.. causes the hinge to seize after the kerf closes, after which the hinge must fail before the tree can move, after which gravity takes over and there is no control of the fall, or worse yet, the trunk splits and barber chairs.. Either way it can get very ugly.
When you land the tree's on logs is that to minimize impact to the yard/grass or is it for easier cutting after the tree has fallen?
Wow very profesional.Great vid
i just got one question and it is just for learning purposes i have seen in a couple of your fellings that you left the higher branches on the back side of your notch now i mean not to be a smart ass but i was told it adds weight to the opposet way you want to fall
No wedges?
Nice job well done. Greetings from Denmark :-D
The people who buy trees want a square ended log, I believe they call it a huboldt cut or something, they pay for a usable length of trunk. This guy just wants the tree down, so he can do what he wants to the log, this method gives more control IMHO. There are so many people who claim to use "the best method", I prefer this one too.
Great video Daniel.
that was a LOT of filming to do..
Pin point accuracy, nice job. I feel like I am going to shit a kitten every tree I take down. This makes it look simple. lol...
@murphy4trees I was trained by a guy that called them sink cuts but I think its notch cutting, so what i meant instead of cutting one notch you cut two, I `m quite new to this lol
Does anybody know the song or artists of the first 2 songs? I tried searching lyrics on google and using shazam but neither worked :(
Craig Bancoff
Well Done. Great show!
Murphy where is treeslayer. Is he still climbing?
@murphy4trees Cool....I have never seen that before and thats a great idea.... Ok, one more.. In a couple videos it looked like when you made the back cut you start from one side then wrap around the back side of the tree to finish the cut, does that change the way the tree falls vs just cutting straight in from the back?
very nice stuff there
I want to do this for a living now
Amazing !!!
"Where are the girls of the seventies ?…"
Right here man !
Tired, worn out and falling just like those trees …
Can you please tell me the name of this song
@757Watson sure enough.. 6 inches to the right.. over-compensated for a light lean in the stem.. I would have done a lot different on that drop if I had to do it over again. call it a learning experience.
that tree hit the power line
Artist at work - says it all really...
...went from watching Renner Gracie tappin people out to Mr. Murphy...WTF ?!?!....cool video and good music !
nice job
accurate directional felling
@2:18 watch the squirrel jump out of the tree and run for his life as the tree hits the ground.
awsome eye on that one. I didn't notice it til you said so
Great to watch the art of tree cutting!
Some unusual undercuts..
