- Here you can see what it probably is the most common vacuum cleaner/electric brush combination produced by Moulinex in the mid 70's. Apart from kitchen appliances, Moulinex produced its first vaccum cleaner in the 1961, it was a very basic unit but soon more models were added along with other small home cleaning appliances. There were both wheel-mounted canister vacuum cleaners and upright vacuum cleaners of which the model 600 is among the most appreciated "Combiné" cleaner made by Moulinex. It is powered by a 460W motor and it was designed to use both, the classic dust bag with fabric filter and the disposable paper dust bag/filter which, as you can see in the video, was mounted inside the fabric filter dust bag. In that configuration the filtering capacity is almost doubled to improve the cleaner's ability to retain very fine dust and pollen instead of just recirculating it through the ventilation grille.
It was advertised as the perfect cleaner for those who had allergy issues or wanted superior cleaning. Mounted on dust bag lid there is a bar gauge which indicates when the dust bag is full and needs to be emptied or replaced, in the case of the disposable paper bag; when the meter bar turns completely red it means that the dust bag is full. The 600 model is very versatile and you can see the various configurations shown in the video. It was sold complete with all attachments including the electro-rotating brush designed for cleaning carpets and rugs which at the time, in the 1970s, were also very common here in Italy where, nowadays, carpeted floors are very rare in homes and are usually only present in flooring in hotels or office buildings because of the ability to dampen noise. In a country like Italy in which, from the end of spring and thorough out the summer, the temperature often rises above 40°C the idea of a warm carpeted floor which would increase the perception of heat is out of the question. The 600 attachments made of flexible and strong plastic are assembled very easily, the electric brush has its own motor which is powered by a short cable connected to a specific socket on the motor unit. The height of the rotating brush is automatically adjusted, and two rollers positioned backward under the connection between the motor unit and the cleaning tool ensures smooth and easy movement over the carpet/rug surface. Moulinex has always paid much attention to the aesthetic aspect of most of its appliances which were a true work of art, and this vacuum cleaner was no different, it was available in many colours and has the particularity that the colour of all its accessories matched that of the dust bag lid. As you can see, the one in the video is the blue version and attachments are blue or has blue trim to match the bag lid. The colours available were Blue, Orange, Brown, Yellow, Red, Light Blue and Cream, there was also a Black version, but it appears that very few units were made in that colour. The most common colours it was seen in were Orange and Brown followed by number of units by Yellow and Red, after which, apart from the very rare Black unit, the Blue and Light Blue ones were the least chosen by customers at the time and this is the most probable reason why I was able to find a blue one still new and in its original packaging...
Overall, this is a very nice sturdy vacuum cleaner, I know people who still have it in routine use, the motor is very well made, and in general the Moulinex 600 cleans beautifully. It has the typical noise of early vacuum cleaners, which means a low to mid pitched sound when compared to the louder, more annoying sound of later vacuum cleaners from the 90's and early 2000's not to mention today's low cost vacuum cleaners that have that annoying hiss that can be heard throughout the house and in worst cases as far as in the street by the house... obviously the duration of today's vacuum cleaners is not even remotely comparable to that of this beautiful Moulinex 600 which, moreover, was designed to be easily repaired and with little expense and which, also for this fact and without any doubt, is still much more eco-friendly and energy saving than the "junk" sold today which does not last and which is designed not to be repairable so that at the slightest breakdown the entire unit becomes unusable and forms piles of non-recyclable waste in landfills!
Non me ne ero accorto. Sempre bei video grazie
