Its weird that JJ told Tarantino (about the new timeline) "Nobody likes it!" and "Do whatever you want." This confuses me, because I thought it had to be 25% different, or whatever that stupid deal was with licensing. This contradicts Tarantino's recollection of the conversation, because I would have thought because of the new licensing etc, that he would be constrained, and COULDN'T "do whatever he wants", but maybe I'm overthinking it. In other words, how much freedom does he have, versus what the public is TOLD how much freedom the directors have.

Kurtz man version is done so they can monetise that version of Kelvin timeline characters for merchandising and not legacy Star Trek TOS characterization that CBS owns. All for profit and other iterations to get franchises and associated licensing that they would own.

I would like to see a Tarantino Trek movie because he knows how to tell an engaging story. I thought Pine and Quinto were okay as Kirk and Spock. As for Urban's portrayal of Dr. McCoy, I felt he was a bit off. It's hard to describe and very subtle, but I didn't like the way Urban's McCoy manifests anger and frustration. Urban also does not exude that Southern charm that DeForest Kelley gave McCoy. Kelley was an actual Southerner (born in Georgia), and I really liked his portrayal of a medical doctor, someone who is warm, compassionate, passionate, trustworthy, humble, competent, and with a sense of humor -- the consummate physician, in my eyes. Putting it another way: I would want Kelley's McCoy to be my family physician, but I would not want Urban's McCoy to be my family physician. I do like Urban's performances in other movies/shows.

Indeed, it's a matter of taste. Classic Star Trek is more pure "Science Fiction" while Star Wars is more "Science Fantasy." Traditional Star Trek contains much less fantasy (magic) than Star Wars. NuTrek (i.e., Star Twrecked), however, is scientifically nonsensical; your understanding of science gets worse by watching NuTrek. Personally, I love classic Star Trek, while I like classic Star Wars. JJ Trek is bad (though I thought 2009 movie was dumb fun); Kurtzman Trek is horrible beyond words.

Apples and oranges Star Trek at it’s purest was a beacon of hope in a very bad time of civil change and unrest. That used metaphor to examine social issues. Star Wars is the hero’s journey in a sci-fi setting space opera. They both serve different purposes.

It depends on what you like. Trek is typically about philosophical dilemmas and actual Sci-Fi. Star Wars is action and fantasy.

There's so so so MUCH I hate about what JJ did to Star Trek, like SO MUCH! The actors are the only good thing in those two movies, the only one! Oh... and Bones introduction, that was really in character. The one thing I have to hate the most is the destruction of Vulcan, he destroyed a whole ass planet, a very important planet in the Star Trek universe, like frigging nothing, and then did NOTHING WITH IT!
I can't watch this kind of things... I get very passionate very fast.
The important thing is, I'll rather have the next movie made by Tarantino than JJ Abrams, more important, I wish JJ Abrams to never touch anything I've liked, ever again, Star Wars included.

I've decided that JJ Abrams' glasses have managed to prevent a lot of people from realizing he's just a pretentious version of Michael Bay.

Tarantino's a better director than JJ Abrams (obviously), but would we really want a Trek that ended with a hyper-violent, death filled shoot-out?
Because you know that's where Tarantino would go.

the reboot its mostly superficial action films based on the original series and that's how most should take it, why would that be changed? is a parallels universe to fit the brain damaged cinematic demand of now a days, so to me it would be a perfect ending. if we want a better trek movie saga that should a be a reboot well assembled with the original timeline based on idk the 2400 and build from the ground up and not on jj's trash. (same thing should do star wars)

Tarantino should stay away from Star Trek. Not because I don't think he would do a good movie, but because his movies tend to be different. New stories/ideas, not the rehashing of old franchises that have been chewed up and spit out as current day political ammo. The current IP owners of franchises like Star Trek don't need to receive a lifeline to continue their zealous charge.
