Is Crash Bash BAD? [Review]

- Growing up, Crash Bandicoot was pretty much all I cared about. That hasn't changed over the years, but as an adult, it's an embarrassing thing to admit, so I keep it to myself... unless it's for a video on the internet, I guess. Despite my obsession though, there was one Crash Bandicoot game on the PS1 that I completely missed: Crash Bash. I played it once in my teens, but have never really given it a proper go. But that all changes today! I hope you enjoy!

It's interesting, I didn't know the game had so many flaws and I didn't realize back then there was so much recycled content. Great review and retrospective Torran!

Honestly, the 10 minute demo of this game included with Spyro Year of the Dragon is all you really need...
Fun fact, the demo contains (almost) the entire game.
I had no idea that YotD had a demo for Bash, but you’re right. You wouldn’t need much more than that
This is not a bad game, haters are so tough with this game, but with Warped, and others are so soft and i hate that 😡
Trying to clear every challenge just feels like a slap in the face at some points. Like instead of making the cpu play smarter in relic challenges, they just make everyone gang up on you and amply their damage while reducing yours. Then theres challenges like the sky ball crystal challenge or swamp fox in general that are just straight up unfair, and not worth grinding for a miracle.
If the copied mini games were more spread out and were bonuses you could unlock by going for the gems/crystals i think Bash would've been a way more enjoyable experience (even though i've never played the adventure mode, i just played the minigames by themselves with my uncle LuL)

Let me tell you, today I 200%ed the game for a SECOND time in my life (the first time was during June 2020) and yes, this game is NOT for the faintest of hearts. Repetition is 1 thing, AI taking less dmg or are slightly supercharged in crystal is another.......
F*CK THOSE RELICS!!! Those "arena champions" are CHEATING AIs that take LESS DMG, HAVE SUPERCHARGED TACKLES IN POLAR GAMES, ARE NEAR PERFECT DRIVERS IN DASH, AND ARE SOMETIMES CLOSE TO INPUT READERS in the other modes......... makes any player absolutely hollow once they have 200%ed the game and has NO completion reward in the end..... it's made even worse considering that Spyro 3 holds MOST of crash Bash through its demo and the cheat menu input to have access to most of the games right out of the bat on TOP of modifiers that allows multiplayers instead of being alone
Forgot the cherry on top, ONLY the black label PAL version of Crash Bash has the unlock all minigames cheat, heck the devs could have given us the Fake Crash as a permanent unlock instead of leaving it to Japan as an exclusive

Through seeing this footage makes me wish you sticked with either Tiny or Kong, they're the best characters in the game

A Crash party game as si much potential but bash kinda wasted it so much I kinda wished they did just rip off mario party stright up
Crash Bash was an OK 30min game.
Then it decides to last 6 more hours and that it personally hates you.
Would have loved to see your reaction to the final boss infamously unfair AI.

Crash Bash doesn't deserve to be bashed so hard. I see people nowadays treating it like a mediocre title and a poor Mario Party rip-off.
I think it's still one of the best games in the series, not counting the original Naughty Dog games and their remakes. I'm not one of those that demand a remake of Crash Bash but people don't have to say it's bad only because they want new Crash games. That argument is used against Crash Bash way too many times, and don't get me started on those times when Crash Bash is used against the latest Crash games just because: "It should have been a Crash Bash remake!".
Sometimes I just want this game to be left alone and appreciated for what it is.
I get that this game probably gets an unfair amount of hate… but to be fair, leaving it alone would make it very hard to review ^^’

@@Torran2Glitchy Close! N Ballism. It’s the only level I hate playing. Everything else I can pretty much do in 5 tries.
HAHAHA the gangbang comment love the recency of this too, especially with the reference to Spain winning the world cup over England. I liked this game as a kid despite the fact I too found the repetitive nature annoying, my brother & I completed adventure mode as Brio & Cortex & I liked how they had a bad guy ending. I also hated how you had to unlock all the levels by finishing them in adventure mode, I liked the later medieval levels, especially the one where you ride on the dinosaurs & shoot gems at the moving target, but you have to get through SO much of the game to unlock that
I imagine the game would be a lot more enjoyable if you played it with someone else. I kind of regret quitting the game early, since I could've missed some good minigames... but at least quitting early made for a more interesting story for the video.
Also, I'm glad you found some of the jokes and references funny! With TH-cam it's hard to tell when jokes land or fall flat and I have no way of knowing what people like, so I appreciate your comment :]

I had Crash Bash back when it came out. I was excited for it, thinking that it would by Sony's attempt at a Mario Party clone. I think I truly realized how bad it was when I first started it and realized that it was just a very uninspired collection of mini-games
