I bought my Panhead in 1983, at the time I was 20 and I owned a 66XLCH, my first Harley, at 61 220. I wanted a bigger bike. I bought my pan from somebody that a friend new for $2700 since then I have spent over 50 grand I have rebuilt or more times than I can count from the ground up, currently I am 58 and I still on the same pan, I just never got on board with the factory stock Panhead even though they’re worth so much more than my bike. Currently I took off an aluminum Phat cats gas tank that I ran for years, and had greg at Harrison fabrications in buzzards bait mass welds hidden mounds on my Jesse James dillon tank, so as she sits now she is a 63 pan in a 48 frame with a 65 inner primary so I have put an electric start in her since I have been kicking it since I was 20 and my knee now and ankle are a believer rated, the bike is 93 cubic inch sidewinder kit from S&S, (Best shit ever), and thanks to Hans at American engineering in wareham mass she boasts 99 horse and 105 foot pounds of torque, with the goal they paying us on big old risers
I was born in 1965 and let me tell ya I wish to god that all my original parts looked as good as that harleys does and boy oh boy my electric start certainly doesn't compare!!! Lol
Dig both the first year & last year Pan's with the first resembling a Knuckle and the last like a Shovel ! By the way to me you look better with the short hair & shave, for what it's worth. Go for it ! ...

@@HuntingHarleys What happened to make you homeless? Did your business hit the rocks? I watched some of your older vids and I wonder if the antique Harley market is dying off in the US (I live in the UK).
You are an oldschool gangster man! Good to see your still goin hard. I've never even owned a Harley but I always wanted one.. Love your bikes you got a good eye for style.
Maybe it's the mic on your camera picking up and accentuating the generator whine but it sounds loud like it does when the gears are mis matched which happens ALOT! Otherwise nice bike. I have an E84, last of the Shovels. Would make a nice bookend set!
The early 60s Harley D had problems with a oil leak in all cruisers models, I think they corrected it in 1969 when the Electra glide came with the electric started.
You have a Harley that was built with pure iron and pure aluminum. They don’t build them like that anymore. Just check that nuts and screws are always tight , especially the oil and transmission covers. The vibration of the engine loses them. I put some silicone on the screws.
Gotta love Hareys. Looks pretty much like my 2002 RKC that I bought in Nov. 2001. When does my Harley which is 20 years old now become a 'classic' bike?
BTW: I have an original FLH Electra Glide from 1971, but with police Deluxe solo Seat, that I like, but I like this bike better, because it was the first with electrical starter.
@@HuntingHarleys it wasn't a 1974 harley, it was a harley 74 ci.in. i can only assume it was in the '50s when my dad bought it new and was in the army. not sure if "Electra" is right I do remember it had a suicide clutch and left hand spark retarder. he would tell me how after it warmed up he could use the spark retarder to all but stall the engine where it would sit there pop pop pop barley running almost jumping off the ground. Also if you didn't have it set right and tried to kick it over it would sent you over the handel bars :). P.S. I understand the retarder was to assist in starting ?
74 inch was the standard size of all HD big twins 1954 to 1978. Mid 78 80 cubic inches were additionally offered finally becoming 80 inch only in 1982. The 74 inch was introduced in 1941 and made concurrently with the 61 inch through 1953. Don't retard the spark properly when kicking over the machine they could, and did, break ankles and knees. Not just over the handlebar launching.
@@HuntingHarleys ok cause dad always called it a "harley 74 with suicide clutch"he had many stories, on of which he was in basic at fort knox and put new plugs in it to make it run better, on the way out of town, twisted the throttle back, last time he checked the speedo it was marching past 120 mph and he let off when he couldn't feel the road through that hard tail anymore LOL. of course after he was discharged, fell on hard times and had to sell it :( It had to be the 50's. My sister was born in 59 and it was before they had any children. Are you from Iowa? I see Davenport in the description. I'm in waterloo :)
ridden bike. 18 K miles basically. Wasnt ridden much. I wonder why? How can anyone stay off ? More important it stayed stock! I grew up around guys chopping them. They were cheap because everyone wanted a shovel. They were cobbling them together from stuff outta junk yards since thats all they could afford. My mother knew a lot of bikers . So I did too. Guys that built their sleds and wrenched on them on their own. None of this factory ride crap. LOL!
IMHO the Panhead is the best looking engine Harley ever produced! I wish my Evo sounded that good!
Since I was born a pan head was in my house always, I remember that unique sound.
What an absolutely great find. She as close to flawless as it gets. I hope see finds a great home.
went to Oregon
Love the that wine on the pans and shovels! Music to my ears👍🏻

The last year for the Pan. 66 brought the shovel head. Nice bike.
65 electra glide was my first harley. rode the crap out of it. it finally got destroyed in a house fire. I miss that bike.
I have a 2006 Electra Glide which I have completely redone and it isn't half the bike that you have there.

Great machine bud !..Congrats !!..I'm dying to find one like..
65 pan never came with a chrome tail light. Beautiful bike!
That seat with the diamond quilt pattern was used on the 1976 FLH. I think it’s a one- year only seat.
He said in the beginning that the seat was changed out in 72
Beautiful bike. I’d take off the bags and the fender rack (keep them!) and swap the seat for a solo saddle,,, that’s it!
So good to see old iron not chopped to hell.
yes, we had some heavy drugs in the 70's

I don't understand... My Dad always told my a story of when he went in the army and bought his "Harley 74 electra glide" but it was a hard tail???
Means no shocks. Also means it was not a stock motorcycle. In 74, it was almost certainly a chopper

I just learned why all of the old hard bags was painted white because the colors would not match on fiberglass to metal

Not until you place a beautiful Classic motorcycle or motor car among modern vehicles do you realise what junk is made for the roads today
When you crank one of these cold, pump the gas to it. They like lots of fuel when cold. When bot, no gas.
