    These comments reveal a strange problem concerning what dota is about. I think playing ranked is about winning. Some here think it's about playing a good game. I think that vein fails if you consider what constitutes good play. I think good play is doing what it takes to win. That includes handling players who are delusional and players with bad attitudes and personality problems.
    Everyone who thinks that it's better to not reward bad behavior should perhaps consider that they are the problem. They are unable to cope with the pressures of playing on a team with people unlike themselves. Teamwork isn't always about reaching consensus, it can be about understanding people as they are, flaws included.

      That's why I wanna boost my MMR to decrease the chance of getting YSP. But at the same time, I wouldn't belong to that higher boostet rank because I didnt improved on the way. As a consequence I lose MMR again. Life is complicated just as like the Ranked System. And no I probably will never be as good as a pro player who could carry the game with no supports. Btw I'm Ancient 5 and I wish I could reach Divine 1 ^^

      Sure and I can do it but it’s not enjoyable for me. I have my flaws and I know what they are so I adapt my situation accordingly and choose not to play. I’ve got plenty of life battles I’m fighting as it is, I don’t need another in Dota.

      I was going to go negative and say you shouldn't reward bad behavior because we're reinforcing them with a false sense of accomplishment. But you're absolutely right if the name of the game is to win, then just do it. You know you have an idiot keep that idiot alive and make yourself win. Good job and happy games all esp coming from a pos 5 lifer!

    10:56 True Story xD
    2 Days ago, I just got my enemy 1st pick Zeus, and last 2 pick Sniper. I got the last pick and planning go on meepo since already ban the WW and no other real good crowd control at enemy team. But instead picking QOP, since she is the hero that can close the gap with either sniper or zeus. And i just surprise when sniper goes to safelane, their post 1 hero go to offlane, and zeus go at mid. I destroy the zeus with 3 kills in the early game, and then he abbandon xD
    So i just realise that the YSP at the enemy team isn't sniper, but zeus. Cause probably he's ping mid and 1st picking, and say "Screw everything, give me mid or i will trhow" and losing. That's a lot of mental damage i guess xD
    Good Content tho, Keep going Dota Alchemy ♥

    I used to be a YSP until I started playing Dota again this year. Two years not playing Dota changed my style so much. I still try to ‘drive’ my team forward by making plays or suggesting what to do but I’m way more diplomatic about it and I know we gotta work together to win. Sometimes you can ‘carry’ as a support just by helping your carries play better by telling them who to target etc. So much more fun now.

    It's not about being prostitute to someone, it's about admitting the fact that you have an idiot in your team that you have to work with in order to win the game. Once the game is over, you forget about him with +25 points in the bag (or not).
    Question: How to detect YSP in the opposite team? You don't see his communication with the teammates?

    The thing I hate and why I don’t play Dota anymore is because the game rewards YSPs and encourages them to believe in a lot of nonsense and bad habits. Meanwhile it punishes team players by making them at the mercy of the YSPs skill rather than their own.
    It’s true you’ll win more games by appeasing them but that is really not a lot of fun. Win or lose. I’d rather lose a game because of misplay on my part or a close contest then win a game where I do nothing but play butler for an entitled idiot. Unfortunately that’s not a choice I get to make. So I choose not to play Dota with people at all.
    Placing wards only does any good if the YSP pays attention to what they reveal rather than their “optimum” farming pattern. So it’s really a crapshoot if you get one in your team.

      Ya dude, it's like they wanna be the hero but expect supports to do everything for them. Stack camps, wards and even bait at times just so that they can swoop right in and steal ur thunder. And beg for comments later on. If somehow they're ganked while farming it is supposedly ur fault for not illuminating that area or not placing sentries or not calling missing or anything. If only ur own team would commend you for playing support people would actually play that role. But win or lose, either YSP will get a commend or you will be reported. Support life is just sad!

    I don't know... just recently started playing again and the only way I could end my 10 or so lose streak was becoming exactly what you call a YSP here. The difference being that I literally solo kill 3-5 people in the end and push and end it alone while most or even all of my team are somewhere scattered around the map randomly. sometimes doing nothing but running around. It feels as if I'm mostly playing with bots. The games that I tried to play support were more fun tbh, because I played solely team-oriented, but I lost every single one of these games. Because my Hero had zero impact mid and late game and I couldn't push shit. While my carries did nothing. It's not nearly as easy as described in this video.

  • @Klimbo93
    @Klimbo93 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    these are good ideas, but I like more my approach.
    Lets say we use your plan in one of the teams, where I go and support the ysp in my team. That makes my team coordination to work as a group of 2 (the ysl and me) and a group of 3 (the other players).
    In the other team is my plan. Leave the sucker to talk trash and blame (eventually muting him) and then support your other 3 players, which are not going to play selfish/stupid/ragequit whenever they throw, because of their own dumbness, ending up blaming you, the only one that tried to help them have that "good game".
    it is patent the second team will win, the ysl will be of no value at some point, and it can either drag its team to the ruin in the firsst place where they keep betting on it, or you can still be that 4 members team. 4vs3, or 4vs2, even 4vs0.
    ysl do not deserve attention, let them rage, let them sink in the hidden pool and hate not only their dota experience, but experience in life. Leave them losing mmr, getting lp, scale yourself, find buddies with which you enjoy party queue, and live a healty life.

    Im playing pos 5 everygame in 3-4k bracket in Perú and Im winning (almost) everygame, just by ensuring my 3 or 4 carrys farm safely, warding for them, ganking, making space and giving directions when I can. So yeah you can actually win games as a support.

  • @EbonySeraphim
    @EbonySeraphim 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I generally agree with the ideas given by this guide. However, I've found it limiting in some games and the full scope of YSP problems weren't called out. I play support probably 65~80% of my games and YSPs and in those games, I don't even really notice or care much about the behavior, as that occurrence feels more natural. The issue is when I play position 1, I often go for the greedier position one heroes and the YSP is far better and more aggressive at taking available farm from neutrals and safer lanes. This video says to be less greedy, but when you're already playing a hero that has a low farm capacity (say Spectre), or is extremely weak out in the open vs a ganking enemy core (Luna) there literally is about zero farm on the map for you. You can't back the YSP up, the YSP demands things from you that won't succeed, because you don't just have a YSP - you have a YSP + idiot (most YSPs are idiots in the first place). YSPs don't usually realize situational things somewhat hinted by this video - recognizing their own power spike and not teammates also means they also don't recognize the enemy's power spikes or that the enemy is simply stronger than them so picking a team fight in a balanced scenario is stupid. For example, a YSP Axe wanting to aggressively push into enemy territory versus an enemy Slark/SF with ShadowBlade. That Slark/SF wrecks the rest of your team except Axe, and Axe is acting like it makes sense to walk by likely wards, not have enough sentries to cover the rear/flanks etc. That sort of behavior/occurrence is basically GG. I've found the best way to deal with this is get the other 3 teammates onboard with your game plan, and be defensive as hell. 4vs5 can win a high ground fight if the enemy oversteps or burns too many cooldowns killing the YSP. Maybe the YSP can feed off of the momentum generated by the remaining 4, but they certainly didn't earn that shit.
    If you really just want to win and nothing else matters, then do your best to work constructively with an enemy on your team. There was a line in House of Cards (probably not the origin of this idea) that went something like "you can only make allies out of enemies, not your friends." But if you believe that part of the Dota experience is impacting the community, possibly making a player aware of their bad-behavior, then I would say giving a YSP hell has some value - or maybe you just get personal satisfaction. I personally stay constructive in my criticism in chat if it's bad enough - this means you don't say "omg, that was stupid" instead say "hey, it's always a bad idea to chase an enemy to the low ground and start a team fight there when we know they are stronger." By that point, I'm cool-headed too because I know that level of mistake is something I can't fix alone. Either A) I follow my team to a team wipe, or B) be the only defending hero left and I'm probably not a farmed sniper that can cover 2 lanes +3 heroes defensively.
    One kind of YSP I won't work with is the kind that refuses to mention the game plan. I can usually look at a composition and tell what the strength should be. Pushing early game, team fighting, ganking, late game super carry, rat/split push etc. I automatically play around that and YSP's usually reveal their ignorance by doing something completely counter to your actual team's strength. So I will usually state what I presumed the game plan was and ask "What are we doing then? Are we all trying to farm and avoid team fights? Are we going to push objectives? Are we trying to let them push and counter them?" Players who don't/can't respond this and instead just say how much you or someone else on your team is messing up is instant YSP, and probably one you should cut out of your psyche. Do the stuff in this video, but I would highly discourage being nice to them in any way, because they likely have cost you the game even if you employ these tactics unless the enemy is substantially worse off than you are anyways.
    Aside from all that, I'll get nasty if the other person decides to be nasty. I don't care to win enough to let some fucktard say dumb shit about KDA in minute 25 as a super late game carry or if I'm playing #6 support. There's a < 5% chance being nice will change their behavior, but the other 95% is them continuing their shit behavior losing the game for your team and flaming others anyways, so you might as well get your shots in and go next. 85% of the time I requeue, if the person is on the other team, I end up beating them because I adjust to whatever is actually going on realizing Dota isn't a contest about who kills who in a 1vs1 matchup, or even in a team fight.

    I would call myself a YSP for the most part. If I play abaddon offlane, and I see that our carry isshit (like no farm whatsoever at 10 min), I usually build more agressive and defend by pushing trhe lane super hard the 2nd people leave it. You need to do 1 of two things when you are left alone on your lane.
    1. Follow them, so they cant gank effortlessly-
    2. punish them for leaving the lane and push it hard.
    Nothing annoys me more than when the entire enemy team is on the top lane, meanwhile our carry on bot lane keeps on farming like there is other people on his lane.

    First of all I kinda don't understand how the content of the video relates to the title. To me it seems that the video should be named something like this "How to cater for and still win games with egomaniac players on your team".
    Secondly, all that this video tells me is "prostitute yourself for more wins, prostrate before the egotistical players with poor personalities".
    Don't get me wrong, I want to win more and for that to happen I want to work on myself to achieve that, like becoming a better leading personality, encouraging my team, etc.
    But if for the sake of winning I have to reward a person for behaving like an egocentric scumbag and support his campaign in degrading dota to a game with the main focus no longer on teamcoordination and communication but to a competition of who has to bow to whom aka "who is the bigger douche", then I'm more than ready to play a proper game with the rest of my team and take a likely loss instead.
    I also want to iterate: I really, really think that the title of the video is misleading / not covering the content. I can imagine that a video with this title could cover a wide range of topics, but i still wouldnt have ever expected this content with that title.

    • @Peachrocks5
      @Peachrocks5 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah come to think of it, it is misleading. It is a good video in it's own way because what's presented is true and yes being a butler and rewarding egotistical players DOES get you more wins. There's no two ways about it. Because Dota is not a game where all roles are remotely close to equal in impact, it's always going to reward egotistical players and punish team players in terms of fun. Just the way it is. Sadly the only choice you have is whether you continue to play or not.
      You can't educate the ego maniacs in the short time you have. Hell even if you had a LOT of time with them, most trained professionals would probably fall short with some of these idiots. It's making the best of a bad scenario if you want to put winning first. If you don't, there's always other options. My option is to not play with people. Though I still keep track of the game and play with bots every so often.

    • @dotatipsntricks
      @dotatipsntricks  5 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Fair enough, titling a video is difficult. If I am too specific, no one will watch it, too broad and people complain it's misleading. Your perspective on the message of the video is very negatively biased as most people tend to be in these situations. It's not about being some ego maniac's slave, it's about accepting that you have an ego maniac on your team and dealing with the situation instead of antagonizing them and ruining the game for everyone. Very different.

      @@dotatipsntricks most people playing dota want to be the star, BUT majority of them dont know how to be a star with support. ive been encountering toxic players countless time in my archon/legend bracket. if its become too annoying i would mute them, continue to support, win games, and after the games they usually commend me for my support. viewing proper supporting as being slave to egoistic player are the core of the problem tbh.

Don’t get me wrong this advice IS good and I know first hand that it does work but the price I was paying in other ways made me feel as though it isn’t worth it. Especially if you still lose. I think it just really gets to me that the game has a positive feedback loop for YSPs so they never learn.

    The best thing , i noticed these days about YSP game are just pick wraith king or some jungle hero. then farm for 25 to 30 minute in jungle and never show up for team's help. Then if you fail 3 vs 5. They start blaming you feed , if you won 3 vs 5 by luck then they come take all kills and then want comments. 90% of the time you cannot win 3 vs 5 . And end up losing after get ganged up or watching YSP farming jungle only to end up in a slower farm rate against the enemy carry.

    The reason these comments are solo polarized is because half of you want to "fix the YSP", and the other half just want to win the game. Here is how to incorporate both viewpoints:
    The guys who want to fix the YSP are thinking of spending future games playing with that person, but if you are not playing team matchmaking, are you really any more likely to play with that YSP in future than you are to play against him? In reality you are unlikely to play with him ever again, but 25% more likely to play against him than with him. Now why would you want to help him improve as a player based on that?
    What you really want is to only help him improve in future games *if he is your regular teammate*. In that case, sacrifice this game to help him become a better team player in future. If he is a random guy, let him stay an idiot, and prioritize your current game as in the video above. Simple as that.
