so very helpful! been trying to do this for years- never appreciated the time i had to think about looking up how to do it, but i finally did it. spectacular!!! love this video!!!!!!
Thank you so much Erin! I appreciate it!!!! Sorry for my delay in responding to your comment - I really appreciate your watching and taking the time to share your feedback :)
The foam board or cardboard may actually provide some wonderful additional support for the board. Also, if the push pins/tacks that you end up using with the board are longer than the thickness of the cork, the foam board/cardboard also protects the underlying wall from getting poked :) Good luck on making the board! I'd love to hear how it turns out!!!!
Glad you liked the video! You can usually fine the cork squares at an office supply store (like Office Depot, Staples, Office Max) or at a craft/hobby store (like Hobby Lobby, Michael's). Have fun!!!!
That's a great question Patricia! I'm not sure simply weaving the ribbon would make it tight enough to hold items in place when you put them onto the board. Maybe hot glue or if you could sew the ribbon at the intersections and then somehow attach/sew the intersections to the board? Part of what makes the board work is having the ribbon adhered to the board in some way...I'll continue to think about it though! Maybe we can come up with something! :) Good luck!
Hi! The foam core was actually larger than 12 x 12 and I cut it down to size (it is easy to cut with a hobby blade - just run the blade along a ruler on the foam core multiple times to go through the entire board). You can find foam core at any hobby or craft store (Michael's, Hobby Lobby, Dick Blick, etc). You might find it at office supply stores as well. It is only a few dollars for a sheet. Hope this helps!!!!
Clever idea covering the tack with a decorative head. Thanks for that, but...I doubt the tack will stay put for long simply by being pushed in. I'd recommend using buttons, threaded once through from the top, with fine wire which can be spread apart on the wrong side and taped down for good measure. Once the foam loses its grip, which will happen when the ribbon is under tension, you won't be able to reinsert the tack securely. Nothing worse than a flimsy 'hold' on a memo board! Specially after all that work.
Thanks for the tip Rosemary! I have had my board since I made the video years ago and my tacks have stayed put...but I don't change the items in the board often...so this is a great tip for keeping the board intact for years to come!!!! :) Happy creating!
@MegaPolishWonder Thanks so much for your question! I'm sorry to say that I don't know the size in mm. Let me see if I can find a way to measure them and if I can figure it out I will let you know. When I placed a circle template over the half pearl it measured between 15/32 (.469) and 7/16 (.437). Hope this helps! Michelle :)
Thank you Deb! Sorry for my delay in responding. You are right!- the foam core board will hold pins as well! I have found that after pinning a lot of things into foam core, the foam core starts to get cranky and doesn't want to hold new pins in the places where it has had things pinned to it before. So, adding the layer of cork provides a surface that you can pin over and over again without that issue. If you find that you are using the board just to display things that you aren't going to pin over and over again, then just using the foam core might last you for a long time. If you think you are going to change things on your board often, then the added layer of cork will help your bulletin board last for a longer time! Happy creating!!!!
Hi Louise! If your board is just foam, you can use an adhesive-backed fabric picture hanger that you can attach to the back of your board as long as the board isn't too heavy. Hope this helps! MIchelle :)
Thanks for your question! Any fabric store will carry batting. You can purchase it in small packages or can often buy it by the yard based on how much you want. Some craft stores will also carry it, as well as large stores that have a fabric department. Batting is most often used as the inside layer for quilts. I hope this helps! Thanks for watching! Michelle :)
Thanks so much for your question! I actually adhered one of those fabric picture hangers that comes with an adhesive on it that you wet to the back and used a little extra adhesive to secure it. Hope this helps!!!! Please let me know if you have any other questions :)
Thank you very much for uploading this video!! I have a co-worker who has asked me to make her 2 ribbon boards; one for her one for her daughter. I haven't made one before, but your video makes it look so easy to do, so thank you very much! And P.S. Willow the Cat is so pretty!! Does she lend a paw when you need to tie something? lol! :-)
You are so welcome! So glad you like it and even happier that the video is inspiring you to create a special board for over your drafting table! :) Have fun with it and let me know if you have any questions!!!!!
Patricia Harman there is a video called how to make a French board it will answer your question, the gentlemen will show you how to weave the ribbon real easy to do...:-)
Glad you liked it! The hot glue should work on the cork. The issue is the thickness and sturdiness of the cork. If you can find a thick piece of cork then you might be able to leave out the foam core. Most of the cork sold in craft/hobby stores is just not thick enough - I guess you might also try doubling up the cork - that might work! Let me know how it turns out :)
Michelle Joy Wecksler It turn out great; I'm so pleased with it! The project began with a framed bulletin board; when I tried to hang it, it fell and the frame broke and came off. I tossed the frame and ended up stapling two layers batting to the cork board, using a regular stapler. I covered it with a light purple fabric and used some fabric on the back as well. I stapled the ribbon on, hot glued buttons, glued the backing fabric on, then used, sewed on D rings for hanging!
So glad it turned out great!!!! It sounds beautiful :) I love the idea of sewing on D rings for hanging! Thanks for sharing the tip and for experimenting with just the cork and batting! I'll have to give it a try! Happy creating! :)
@JenniferMoore143 Ooops! Sorry about that Jennifer! I'm going to go and take a photo now and then I will put it up on my blog so that you can see it! Sorry for the "oops" and thanks for letting me know!!! Have fun making your bulletin board! Michelle :)
also one has to bear in mind that some people make these boards with children in mind whose movements are quick and unaware of the fragilty of foam board.
Hi Mari! I apologize for my delay in getting back to you! Thank you for your great question!!! There are multiple ways to hang it on the wall. Because it is lightweight, I have been able to use self-adhesive fabric hanger hooks. They can usually hold up to 10lbs of weight and you adhere them to the back of the bulletin board. You can even hot glue it to the back of the bulletin board if you don't want to rely on the adhesive on the hook itself. I put a nail/picture hook into the wall and then hang up the bulletin board using the self-adhesive fabric hanger. Hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any additional questions! Happy creating!
That's a great question! My sense is that without the batting the ribbon will be tighter on the board and it might be a little more difficult to slide things under the ribbons to post onto your board. The batting creates some "give" so that you can slide things of different thicknesses under the ribbon onto your board. Hope this helps! Let me know if it works!
Thank you so much for your question Sara! I finished the back of mine with a piece of chipboard and then added an adhesive fabric picture hanger to the back for hanging. You could also finish it with a painted or fabric-covered piece of chipboard. Depending on the size of your board I can imagine other creative options - maybe a thinner piece of foam board covered in fabric or you could put it in a frame with backing board. Hope these ideas help! Please let me know if you have other questions! Happy creating!
This is a great video-- just bought all the materials, and this video will really help put it together. All of you urchins questioning her use of "taut"- did you grow up under a rock? Get a dictionary, or google it! She took the time to make this helpful and detailed video and post it to help people make one of these awesome creations, and you have the audacity to question her language in the instructions? Get a life and have some respect!
So glad you enjoyed the video Diana and thank you for the tip on buying the board on Amazon! Also, thank you for your support :) It is appreciated! Have fun making your board! Michelle :)
i slapped a hobo every time she said the word tot.....im like grrrr how many times are you gonna say that lol.......but i like the vid though im gonna make lots of these
LOOOOL Willow came out of NO WHERE hahahahaha. Loved this and the precision of application. Thank you
so very helpful! been trying to do this for years- never appreciated the time i had to think about looking up how to do it, but i finally did it. spectacular!!! love this video!!!!!!
Thank you so much Teresa! So glad the video is helpful to you!!! Happy creating! :)
So cute, thank you so much. Your videos are great and you're so informative! Love it
The part where Willow popped in, was the best part! Too cute!
Very well done video. I appreciate the explanations of both how and why.
Thank you so much Erin! I appreciate it!!!! Sorry for my delay in responding to your comment - I really appreciate your watching and taking the time to share your feedback :)
I absolutely love your cat! Shes gorgeous!
Thank you so much Mariah :)
Thanks for your question Amy. The word I am saying is "taut" and it means "stretched or pulled tight; not slack."

Hi. Thanks for making your video. Im inspired to make one like yours 🤗
Great video! Love the cat!
Thanks Louise! :)
This seems so easy!!!

Willow is just supervising!🤣🤣🤣
You are so welcome! Have fun making your board!!! :)
You can find foam core board at any craft or hobby store. You might also find it at an office supply store. Good luck!!!!! Happy creating! :)

Also you can buy cork/foam board on Amazon- a 2 pack by Elmers for only $9. Skips the step of having to glue the cork to the foam board.
This is a great video! The only question I had was about if you wanted to hang it on the wall - what would you do? I love the pearl idea :)
wow that is great i am going to try that !!!!
I thought this video was great and can't wait to try making one myself. Where do I find cork though?
Great idea! Thanks for sharing and thanks for watching!!!!

Great job
Useful and beautiful.
Thank you so much Maryam :)
She is saying the word "taut" which means stretched tight with no slack.

Very nice. But why do you need the cork board? The pins will hold in the foam core board just as well.

Love this, thank you!
Do you think there's a way not to put the tacks on? Would weaving the ribbon help?
how have people hung their boards? I've just got foam board, but not sure how or what to use for hanging? thank you for the tutorial.
Hi Louise! If your board is just foam, you can use an adhesive-backed fabric picture hanger that you can attach to the back of your board as long as the board isn't too heavy. Hope this helps! MIchelle :)
Ooh, thank you. I've never heard of those. 😀

@MegaPolishWonder I just found a tool that allowed me to measure the mm's of the half pearl! It is 12mm! Hope this helps! Michelle :)
Great video!! This is next on my list to craft :-) A question, is the form board necessary, does the hot glue not work on cork by itself? Thanks!
Glad you liked it! The hot glue should work on the cork. The issue is the thickness and sturdiness of the cork. How do you hang on a wall?

Maybe, you can sew on the beads or buttons instead?
Do we really need to use batting? Can i just skip using it?
That's a great question! My sense is that without the batting the ribbon will be tighter on the board and it might be a little more difficult to slide things under the ribbons to post onto your board. The batting creates some "give" so that you can slide things of different thicknesses under the ribbon onto your board. Hope this helps! Let me know if it works!

@JenniferMoore143 Have a beautiful holiday!!!!! Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones!!!!

What does taut mean
i find it funny how she says tight
maybe sew the ribbon to the fabric before you glue down the fabric?
