Thanks for a great viseo. Gardus says to trim the srings to the size of the chimney. Do you recommend doing this. If you do how much do you trim. Thanks

I don’t use any of those get you in trouble old school metal brushes anymore! Everything now is power sweep. Letting the customer know that they need to use anti creosote products with every fire they have saves them and helps save you the time cleaning the next time! 👍🏻👍🏻

There are no acrylic brushes where I live. I've used a metal brush but I've read it damages the anti-corrosive lining on metal flues, so I don't want to use it more. Is there a homemade stand in?

Hi guys, thanks for the video. Would the chains for the power sweep system crack the clay liners or are they safe enough?

regarding getting the brush stuck, you can tie a rope to the loop at the bottom/top of the brush to pull it out.

At 10.16 you can lock these brushes to be used in reverse by drilling and inserting a grub screw into the rod connection . When you drill the hole in the rod initially make it smaller then fit the brush to lock postition . Drill the hole again into the brush itself ,remove the brush head and tap a thread about 4mm . put brush head back onto rod to lock postition insert grub screw to tight . An alternative is to fit a locking pin or nut / bolt through both the brush head and rod .

    Great tips thanks for sharing.
Is it bad if you scratch the chimney with a metal brush ?
How long do the rotary whips lasts before you need to change them ?

Dicofole Good questions - Scratching a chimney is not good, could allow rusting - the whips can be replaced with weedeater cord so they last a long time. The rods can get cut on sharp dampers or stove throats or cleanout areas

Isn't Stainless rust proof ? This is not the first time I hear someone tell me not to use a metal brush on a stainless steel pipe or heat exchanger...

Dicofole - Stainless Steel - has many many grades - the name is as its says - "Stain Less" - means it takes longer to rust - but i see hundreds of rusted out stainless chimneys so scratching it all up is not a good idea...

The lines on the Sooteater I got appear to be noticeably thicker and ridged compared to the usual weedeater line. Would the thinner line work just as well for the most part? Not that I really expect to need replacement at any time soon though, since I cut the original line in half and already have a replacement set from the other half. The lines provided in the kit were over 16", so even the half length should be able to cover 8" diameter pipe.

What brand of "power swept" equipment do you use? And for flex liners - why not use a 5 inch brush ? thanks..

Gardus Sooteater seems to be the most popular one; it was available through Amazon for a relatively low cost.

DTR RTD Gardus is a good choice on the cheap side in the US. They are much cheaper than real chimney rods and won’t take the abuse real chimney rods do. Real chimney button lock rods, whips/bushes in the US are so ridiculously over priced. You can pay up to $70 for a single 5’ rod. The UK you can get the same rods, but 7 5’ rods for around the same price as one in the US. A average, but real(lol) chimney sweep HEPA vacuum runs you $900 in the US. I refuse to by a $900 vacuum that has less technology than my $190 HEPA vacuum. I guess the price is so ridiculous it keeps the average person from just buying the real products!
