What a nice surprise. Another long format video so soon after the one on Nordafrik 👍🏻. Hopefully you’re considering doing one of these on the Ethnarchy of the Caucasus Wastes and the Assault of the Tempest Galleries.
I love these Unification stories! You're doing great things. The only issue is the description of the Thunder warriors. The Thunder warriors were barley controlled bezerkers once their battle lust took over. Thus why they were purged and replaced. These sound more like Astartes with Custode flavoring. But thats nitpicking, still love the stories!! Hopefully some of these characters and story lines will make it into the lore if GW ever taps into the treasure trove, that is Age of Strife and Unification.
I found this on the warhammer wiki "The Thunder Warriors were not like the Astartes who would follow them; they had been created solely for war and were not well-suited to any other activities. Once peace came to Terra, the Thunder Warriors would inevitably pose a risk to the new state's stability through their very existence." they did have dangerous mental instabilities but i think this was the main reason they were culled. i don't believe they were all in a berserk rage or they wouldn't have been able to execute the emperors genius strategies
This a strange version of lore he is mixing the thunder warriors and the custodies into one . The thunder warriors have where a lot of things, but disciplined is not one of them. Only the custodies had golden armor.
every depiction of thunder warriors I've seen they are wearing golden or yellow armor but I hear you it does sort of sound like it's describing custodes
The original Thunder Warrior gear was basic compared to the apex of tech wrought & genome responsive golden-armor the Custodes have always sported. The time to create each Custodes, their armor custom created for that singular warrior, their individual deeds/names earned engraved within the inside of their armor, only known to themselves & the Emperor. The Thunder Warriors, seems like they where the Proto Type, be it their creation(man to thunder warrir) their different types of upper body armor/helmets, power weapons..etc Thunder armor, some new tech meshed with fundamentally tried & true mechanized powered by a small fusion plasma leaf blower backpak😐 powering their upper body armor. Early armor versions seemed to be without protection from the waist down.(no power armor) Just gladiator style protection, again a lil of this, lil of that. Reminder...Thunder Warriors, were massive.. extremely dense muscle (armor like) piled & slabbed upon an a peak-athletic frame(The Emperor openly supported the use of Performance Enhancing Drugs, Selanorian DNA ripping/gnome soup mixing) Standing at 10-12ft, factor in all types of genetical upgrades. Their abilities of wicked fast regenerative & healing properties, high resistance to physic attacks & warp skullduggery! They where bigger, stronger, faster, meaner, nastier..everything needed to not just fight.. but WIN Love the videos, lore and story style❤
IIRC Valdor spoke of the very beginning when the Custodes weren't gold. They were eventually. They were the first, favored, and proudly presented. The thin line of gold spread over the battle, backed by thunder. The thunder warrior art seems similar to medieval art that isn't a literal representation, but a vibes representation.
Since the Unification wars took something like 800 years (give or take a century or two), it is tricky to imagine this scenario taking place as illustrated even taking into consideration that a battle timeline was not mentioned. It makes the story more compelling to speed up the timeline LoTR movie style but it feels disconnected from the foundational lore. Additionally, I do not think the whole religious worship of technology and fear of AI (cogitators, machine spirits, etc..) was a thing until Mars was recruited post-unification. So, hearing that sort of thing in the story feels out of place and a missed opportunity to imagine something unique and interesting because by all accounts, Unification wars represented an era very different from post-unification. Also, you mentioned steel. I can't imagine, even in a Mad Max scenario, that far into the future, that they would not have access to something better than steel or even know what steel is since it was likely phased out of humanity at least 25,000 years prior to the Unification wars timeline. It would have also been interesting to mention a moment of Thunder Warrior insanity since we know they frequently went cray cray and attacked each other and themselves. Also, could have mentioned logistical things to get a sense of scale and troop movement. Also, 1:32:05 would be accurate if not depicted as a pit run by gangs. However, as illustrated, it can't really be classified as a testament to anything other than depravity.
Don't get me wrong the reading was awesome thank you. But the way that they portray the Thunder Warriors is just dumb. Even if their armor was invincible plenty would die or receive catastrophic injuries. Even if you have an invincible shield that nothing on earth can even scratch. You try to block a tank round your shield will be fine. You on the other hand will be pulped with most of your bones broken and you definitely dead. The thunder warriors were hit with plenty of artillery level weapons. They might not scratch the thunder warriors. They would get tossed like toys quite a considerable distance. The problem with these stories are a lack of narrative clarity and extreme repetition of phrase and theme. The cry of defiance is repeated over and over, for example. If you wag to go big, add more bass to your voice.. most folks who listen to lore is it to sleep.
I'm actually about to poke around on my editing software to see if I can add some bass in post. Thanks for the note I appreciate it
Please dont go for the bassy wanna be warrior voice thats all raspy etc. the way this is done is good, very enjoyable to have a lorehammer channel that doesnt pretend to be a Space Marine. I unsubbed from a bunch of channels because of overexaggerating the voice, listening to this because its normal. Keep your Identity.
