What fate will await the Kinahans if they are extradited home to Ireland?

  • A homecoming of epic proportions will be on the cards for the leaders of the Kinahan organised crime group as the Irish director of public prosecutions considers which charges to level against Christy Kinahan Snr and his sons Daniel and Christopher Jnr.
After years of speculation as to which country they will face trial in garda commissioner drew Harris confirmed this week that Ireland is hoping to have the trio home before the special criminal court.
Nicola speaks with Niall Donald about the implications of any decision by the DPP, about the under pressure Garda Commissioners rush to break the news to the political classes and about the unprecedented plans that will have to be put in place around a forthcoming trial.

Having lived in Birmingham for 20 years, I must say that when I go back to Ireland I find The Irish Gardai very impressive whether its dealing with crowds, managing traffic, or just being a presence. I find then professional, engaging, and trust worthy. Its a world away from 20 years ago where they were too busy being full of self importance and being big pals with local business and other people of self importance. To be fair, the day of squaring speeding tickets was coming to a close no matter what.

Old Kinahan was a different animal to the others I’m ten years younger than him and remember him in nice clothes nice car and a nice bloke, I only knew him from a distance but he was no bully. Old Kinahan got into the drug thing when he seen what the Dunne family had done only difference he had smarts. I was an addict as a young lad for a couple of years, that summer 1980 was the golden brown summer of Dublin even Europe it was everywhere. I remember Micky Dunne all flash his own driver, Larry the same untouchable yet two years later I remember Micky ripping a guy off over a gold chain, he fell fast. C?K was smart and it’s easy to blame him for everything but he’s been working since the 80s. I’m sure he never planned for this but big money big risk. He should write a book and I’m sure he will. I worked the rest of my life but I’m happy there’s many junkies from the Golden brown summer 1980 where heroin changed a city in one summer. God bless Danny Mullins head of the drug squad there was ten for the whole country. Crazy looking back but C.K is not the only one he has many Irish bosses who stay clean. Ok that’s my story Eire Nua.

My friends and myself knew a cab driver too in Dublin back in the seventies, and he was a very nice kid, Christy was his name he lived in Tallaght, however, told us he originally came from the north side. It might not be the same guy, but in all honesty, he was a gentleman, he was. The type of kid you would trust to bring your grandma home safe. He wasn't tough at all. I feel the media should refrain from interviews and discussions about the Kinahans until they have firm evidence that they have been arrested and charged. All this speculation and hype could instigate another outburst of violence, the last thing anybody wants, as the victims families' on both sides have called out for peace. It must be terrible for them, coming to terms with the violent circumstances their family member died under. Both sides weren't right and two wrongs will never make a right. R.I.P. on their souls. More going on than is being reported from probably much higher up.

I am the biggest offender myself, I follow those sites, hard to know what the resolve will be, maybe better to leave well enough alone for now. Very tragic for the family's of the victims.

I believe you are reading far to much into this, and somewhat clutching of straws.
    1. For authority in the UAE to even consider arrest and extradition of any Kinahan family member, this process should have been presented to the DPP a number of years ago, and an issuance from the Irish judiciary to the UAE authorities should have been made through our consular channels and even perhaps at a state level( This should not have been left solely with an garda siochana) hence we have had absolute no movement by the UAE on this matter.
    2. The DEA announcement in early 2022 was possibly far to premature, senior levels of an garda siochana had not done there due diligence, by have charge sheets drawn up before the DEA announcement.
    3. It’s far more likely that the DEA will step in long before the Irish authorities, when eventually the UAE see the charges from both Ireland and the US, the US are more interested in the Kinahans for one of the biggest drug bust following the MSC Gayane which was ceased off the coast of Philadelphia in 2019, and even more so for Arms Trafficking across swades of Africa by Vincent.
Personally I don’t think we will every see these people in an Irish court house, majority of which will be circumspect evidence, likely to turn out much like a Gerry Hutch trial, where the wrong charges will be brought to answer. It’s much more likely that the DEA have undercover evidence, perhaps even planted individuals into organisations linked to Kinahans, they probably have far more on them than we know.

G.H brought D.K down with the regency that got worldwide attention don’t think G.H didn’t know this would crush them. He’s seen as a working class hero and he is. He’s beaten the SCC something that’s very very rare. And he crushed the Kinahan boxing world to nothing and that must have hurt D.K. That was the beginning of the end for the Kinahan clan nothing has gone smoothly for them since.

I can't understand and maybe it is just me, as I really am only an onlooker, I just glance at blogs. When two Irish gangs are at war, as these two factions seemingly are or have been. What has it to do with the US.? Somebody pointed out to me that those gangs are international criminals, whether that is true or not, my guess would be they should all look a little closer to home. I just don't believe all that has and is being reported is genuinely real, there are a lot more involved on an international level then, if that be true, these are international criminals and gangs. Big names world wide are hiding behind the Kinahans. Christy could come forward and disclose , but because he wouldn't , doesn't mean he couldn't, however, he won't. It is making the Irish look bad on an international level, it is. Anti Irish propaganda.
