I just love Trig bagging. It is such an achievement these people undertook all those years ago. You just never know how many will disappear. Thanks for sharing.
So true, i think Wiltshire has already lost so many, as there is a large area where there isn't any. It is fun trying to find them though. Thanks for watching
I've never heard of the term "Trig Bagging" before. It sounds like fun trying to track them all down - like a treasure hunt. I always learn such a lot from your channel, Cara. Thank you 👍😊

Great video. Now I will be looking for trig points in the undergrowth. I wonder if one is in my garden and I haven't spotted it. You found some in some obscure places. Have a great week 👍Paul
Thanks Paul, oh they get even more odd. Not sure i am looking forward to trying to find the ones in housing estates though. Thanks for watching

Interesting learning about trig points, Cara. You have your work cut out before you to visit the other hundred!
yeah i do, I have just over a year to do it, so fingers crossed. Hope you both are well. xx
*It's a walking video that looks like walking in a forest. Beautiful nature. Have a happy week.👍👍52*
Thank you! You too!
OOPs, I missed the premier. Bagging trig points seems like an awesome quest. Probably some interesting stuff around them. The deed on my first piece of land was marked by oak trees😅. The distance was measured in chains⛓. In that area a light gauge railroad was scrapped, and the rails were driven into the ground as property markers. That was when George Washington was alive. They're still there today. I love history. Thank you Cara. Have an awesome day😍💞🐲
Oh wow, that so cool. History is great 👍🏻
Thanks for watching 😊

Although I have heard of and seen trig points before as we have them around Australia (we call them trig stations more commonly), I have never heard of trig bagging before and never knew it was so popular. Very interesting and informative video👍. Have a great day

A great day trip, with great scenery ✌ I liked it, cheers. Greetings from Helsinki, Finland 🇫🇮
Thanks 👍
My mate Veggiebagger is mad about these. He makes plaster casts of the brass plate sometimes, and even paints the occasional trig pillar. Bonkers and very loveable.
there seems to be a few people who go around painting them, think thats the first time i heard of a plaster cast being done. :-)
Well done, my friend. Big like and full play 👍. Thanks for sharing and have a great day 😀.
Thank you! You too!

Reminder set ✨️
:-)
what a lovely and relaxing scene, enjoyed it very much and so nice to just take a break
Many thanks
My late father was a surveyor for the Ordnance Survey. His job was to install and use these trig pillars. Although most are either redundant or destroyed, some are still in active service as GPS master reference points. Those will normally have a plaque on them stating that they are still in use.
oh wow, that great to know. Didn't realise some are still being used, great to know. thank you
@@openmindedwonderer Also, each trig pillar has a special, secret feature hidden away that hardly anyone knows about 😉
@@neilfoster814 🤔 secret feature 🧐

Hi new friend Great tour I enjoyed watching your video Thanks for sharing 😄👍
Thanks for coming
Hi Cara, thank you for this video 😊❤️ I have seen these markers in the landscape before, but never really paid to much attention to them. You see them a lot on hiking channels 😊 although I don’t think any hiking channels I have watched have ever used the word trig point before. This was super interesting and good luck hunting out all 103 of them 😊
I was pretty much the same, but i am finding them all over the place. it been quite fun so far trying to find them. :-) I get the impression that people call them all different things. I have always known them as trig points or trig pillars is another one.
Trig bragging, not a term I was familiar with but Trig Stations was familiar to me. In new Zealand we have those still. Not sure whether we have them in the Netherlands. Must look that up. So interesting. One would wonder how they measured the contours of the land all those years ago without the modern equipment of today. Great walk by the way. Lovely was to start the day. Thanks for this interesting topic and you chose a lovely area to introduce it. 👍 🇳🇱 🙋♀ 🇳🇿
It really was a beautiful morning for a walk and not a living soul there. I didn't know much about trig points myself until i got the book and it's becoming quite fun searching for them. Thanks for watching
W0w So Really Amazing This Your Trig bagging That's Great!Keep It Up Good Job! Stay Conected!😍😍😍

Never heard of the word before. Now I have a little bit of an understanding of Trig points. This is one of the good things about TH-cam; we get to learn from creators like you. ❤
It really is the best thing about YT. i am learning so much and seeing more of the world than i could possible do alone. Thanks for watching
Hey Cara, well I've never heard of Trig Bagging, what a fun book to be bought. Especially with your love of history. Plus who doesn't love a walk in the woods. I will need to keep an eye out on our travels. Take care - Nettie

Thanks for watching!
Great Video! I enjoyed it very much. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for watching
Great video, thank you. I have always thought them to be somewhat eerie. Whilst often looking out of place they also seem to 'belong'. Also sometimes the view reminds me how small the country is. From the trig point at Painswick Beacon (Kimsbury Hill Fort) , in Glos, you can see all the way up to Shropshire & over to the Black Mountains on a good day. Thanks again.
wow thats amazing, it really how far you can see from these place. thank you
Never ever heard of trig before,it sounds like a form of letter boxing.I found this really interesting cara ,how they found the shape of the country. But all your lovely videos i end up watching 2 times so it sinks in debs xx 🤗
Thank you so much honey. Hope all is ok with you xx
Hi Cara! Very interesting, that👍 Best of luck with your tri bagging!👍😊
Thank you! 😃
We have never heard of trig bagging, and have only heard of the thing that it kind of sounds like. And this looks MUCH more enjoyable -- thanks for the awesome lesson and footage, as always 👏
thank you so much
Nice video Cara and some interesting info. That would be some achievement bagging all the trig points in the UK! Keep up the great work🙂👍
Thanks so much!
2:36 I laughed out loud at “it must have been an amazing feet”.
😳 oh whoops 😂 glad it made you laugh 😊
We both really enjoyed this trip through the trees and along the way finding the concrete markers.
Very relaxing music with nice editing thanks for having us along Beth and Simon ❤️ 🙋
Thank you so very much!
Awesome to see and learn about the trig points. I never heard of it before. Sounds like Wilshire has quite a few. Really good information too. Thank you so much 👍❤️

Hi Cara. I have never heard of those until now…I wondering if maybe I’ve seen some like this here in Niagara and just never knew what they were. It’s really fascinating and I’m looking forward to when you find more. Beautiful walk too btw. 👍😊🇨🇦
I have seen them around but really didn't take much noticed. you could have seen them, for I know other countries do have them but different designs. :-)
I've never known about trig points till I watched your premiere☺️ we kind of have this in my homeland but smaller concrete and cylinder shaped that's buried to the dirt for residential lands or farm lands. Thank you ☺️
Thank you so much for watching
I enjoyed your video and learning about the points 😍👍 thanks for sharing 👍
Thanks for watching
Great interesting video Cara. Thank you for sharing ❤
Thank you for watching, hope all is well with you :-)
one thing that seems to always get missed, Is those little plaques on the trigs are not just signs they are an extremely important feature , they are the socket that a leveling bracket would clip into so they could accurately measure (using triangulation and TRIGonometry ) exactly where it was
you make a very good point, thank you
Fascinating, I had not heard of trig points
thank you so much for watching
So much history in such inconspicuous places...
thank you
I've learned something today which I find fascinating. To think you can still find these original markers, or at least most of them, and to see how this all came together to create the exact shape. It would be awesome to "bag" a bunch. So cool, thanks Cara
I never really understood them until i got given the book, which is so cool. Thanks for watching
Wow!! Very interesting and awesome video! 8:25 Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much
wonderful place👍
I enjoyed watching🙂

Such a beautiful walk in this great forest. Definitely learned things from your video
Thank you so much
We are like most everyone else here - never heard of that - but know we know! Looks like it would keep one busy for the day!
It is keeping be very busy, thanks for watching :-)
Fantastic insight on the trig points, so much good info, me and a friend are currently on the 88 trigs of the Peak District only for 11 to go now.
Wow, only 11 to go, brilliant. So which area will you do next. I must admit i must get back out and finish the Wiltshire ones. I wonder if anyone has bagged them all?
It would be good to know if anyone has completed them, I’ve been doing the Cheshire trig points too. So thinking of finishing them.

They have removed a lot of the trig stations in NZ, but we used to like climbing to the top of the station, then walking round the base five times. Because we could.
That is such a shame they have removed so many, there is something nice getting to the top of somewhere and seeing them. Thanks for watching
Interesting walk. I enjoy reading all the information.
Thank you for watching
What a fascinating challenge to take up, Cara! I enjoyed learning about trig points and seeing you find your first few.

Great video Cara , loved these woods you walked in. So interesting to hear that you have 103 Trig points in Wiltshire and that you are on a quest to find them . I did not know that some can still be found on housing estates either, we have only seen them up mountains :) Intersting to know that the lowest one is at Little Ouse and below sea level and in answer to your question, no i don't know anyone who has bagged all trig points in the UK . You got nice drone footage at Picked Hill I think it was called where there was no access by foot. This was interesting, thanks for sharing and oooo so you have a big adventure coming up in 2024 ? That sounds really exciting :) ~ Anna 👍
Thank you Anna, and yes it was picked hill for the drone footage. only you and one other has mentioned the trip in 2024. which i am so excited but will let everyone know soon :-) Thanks for watching

I love trig bagging so really enthusiastic video, thank you. I've also got a trig bagging book for the North Yorkshire Moors which I will be trying to complete soon, I will probably make a mini series and put it on my channel, just subscribed and looking forward to watching your videos m, ta Stu.
Hi, Thank you so much. I so love trig bagging, although i haven't managed to bag one for awhile. These books are such great fun, and look forward to see how you do. Cara :-)

Trig points Cara you are in the perfect position Liddington is No1 trig point the rest of the country is mapped from just east of swindon....also the Cold War under ground nuclear look out points where very near a trig points it made it gov.uk easy to work out. Trig bagging got the Devon book need the Cornwall (lived in Swindon 10yrs ago)
Wow, Didn't know that, i though the first one was placed in Northamptonshire. Learnt something new, Been to the Liddington trig point, view is stunning from up there. Wish they had put something there to mention such a thing.
I haven't managed to visit any more of late, think i am on number 22 of the wiltshire book. it is fun though. How you doing with the Devon trigs?
Oooh, very interesting Cara. Loved it. If I see any up here I'll let you know. Do they all have that symbol and the os mark? That's exciting, I'll be on the lookout now 👀 😄. Take care, Ellie 🐻🐻🏡
yes they do have all have that symbol on. thanks for watching :-)
Wow! Interesting stuff 🤔
Thank you

Very interestin as usual Cara, i investigated Trig's briefly about 3 years ago due to coming across a few over the years but as I say only briefly, I will take more notice in future or even hunt them out if any in an area I'm in👍
I never really looked into them before, i just thought they were placed on top of hills but it seems not and its turning a few things i never knew about. :-)
