Hi. Just set this up in stereo with my Katana 100 Mk2 ....and a Roland Cube bass 30 amp. Mono cable out from the Kat line out into the standard input on the Cube. Used a flat EQ, no mods or compression..... and it sounds awesome. Set Kat to stereo mode and it works. Create sounds in Chain 1 or 2 as suggested here...
Doesn't seem to highlight anywhere that this works with any other amp...Obviously a balanced sound with 2 Katanas.....But t works very nice thank you like this!!!!!

I bought a 100 1x12 Mk 2 and already had a mark 1. With the latest firmware on the Mark 1 I was able to get the stereo effects. To make it work you plug the Mark 2''s Line Out into the Mark 1's Effect Loop Return line. Turn on the Mark 1 while pressing the presets 3 and 4 at the same time. The panel lights will go out leaving only preset 3 and 4 lit. There is a tutorial on this somewhere on TH-cam. I didn’t know about switching to chain one so really only used it for the pan effects and just having a bigger sound. Now I get to try some more stuff tomorrow. Thanks guys

@@TheStudioRats I updated the post. It's preset 3 and 4 that you press, not 2 and 3. People wanting to upgrade from a Mk 1 can get the stereo and pan benefits by adding a Mk 2, and keeping the Mk 1. Be great if you could show this on your channel. I found a video from JB Aubry on TH-cam that shows getting the stereo effect. He doesn't show how to turn off the effects on the mk 1, which you execute with the start-up sequence. From the Boss site.
Katana Version 4 Newly Added Features
Effects expanded to 65 total types; Heavy Octave, Stereo Delay, and Pan Delay added
New Pedal FX section; Wah and Pedal Bend effects can be set up in BOSS Tone Studio
Dedicated mode for using as a slave amp for the Katana Mk II's Stereo Expand feature (except KATANA-50)

Great demonstration, but I have to point out that speaker choice absolutely matters in this application!
As stated, the slave amp has no controls other than the master volume. This means that the only way to change the tone of the slave amp is by changing the speaker!

  • @andrewbecker3700
    @andrewbecker3700 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I use a 20' ft stereo patch cable for my 212's and notice pretty significant signal loss. The slave amp master volume has to be turned up a whole number higher than the controlling amp. It's kind of tricky to get the volume balanced equally between the two. I'm reluctant to spend more money on a "high end" stereo cable that's under 25' ft. From what I understand it'll make little to no difference? Why does everyone hate the stock Katana speakers soo much?

Okay, so I just bought a second Katana 100 MkII head. The first one goes to a Katana 212 cabinet. The second one goes to the 12 " Celestion in my JCM800 until I get another 212 Katana cabinet. I have then both in stereo expand, line our of the master goes to power amp in of the slave using a standard mono audio cable. I have both amps programmed identical; preamp/eq and send/return before the effects. So, all effects are in the loop on both. My pedal board is plugged into the effects loop return of the master and then goes through all the onboard effects and to the line out and power amp. I get audio through both amps, but it's not stereo. I get no stereo effect with any chorus or phaser or any delay or reverb. I get the same exact audio out of both amps at the same time, no slap back or ping pong effect at all. What am I missing here? Both are Mk2 heads programmed identical. What am I missing? nope! it means you have 2 -100 watts Amps to better fill the room with sound. It fills the room space with sound rather than have much difference on the volume . Just like having 2 katana 50's does not give you the same volume as a single katana 100. For example when I run a katana 100 , I dont have to turn down the volume to half when I add the second katana, I can almost leave it at the same volume , the only difference is the sound is much fuller in the room.

According to the docs I read, the cable between the 2 amps (Line Out to Power Amp In) should be a TRS (stereo) vs TS (mono). If the line out from the Katana is stereo, why can't you just take split the R-L signal (simple Y-cable or run it into a mixer board) and then run the other channel into any old amplifier and get the same stereo effects? Does the Stereo Expand switch on Slave do anything more than disable all the functions other than volume? This can't be that complicated. I'll do some testing and find out.

Did you fry one of the amps when you didn't read the manual? Also is it disappointing to you that the 2x12 amp doesn't do stereo by itself even though it has TWO speakers.

very nice, ok ... but what do you do on stage when the stereo sound is to be forwarded to the main system via line-out? Boss blocked this, didn't he? Do you have to take a laptop on stage as well or can the Katana only be used at home?
The slave can be any amplifier, because the master only sends the stereo portion of the effects to the slave. It's actually very badly done by Boss, because you logically expect 2 real contributions with a well-considered stereo sound and not just the stereo portion of the effects.

Got reeaaallly lucky and found an incredibly lightly “used” ArtMK2 to match w/ my existing AMkII.
Saved quite a bit, and was able to have two “Greenbacks” working together consistently.

If you must remove the stereo effects to use the stereo expand that would appear to reduce the abilities of the amp to be used on its own or as a back up. Is this absolutely necessary?

If you want to use it to the full extent then you need two katanas. Apparently there is a way to do it if you have any other amp.

For if you don't have two katana's; but only one; If you connect Line-out of the amp to a DAW input 1 and the REC-out of the amp to DAW input 2. (with stereo expand =on) do you have the stereo signal in your PC (Ableton or Studio one) available?. In that case the amp does not give sound (rec-out is used) but on your studio speakers you have then stereo sound ? I know USB-out of the Boss amp is stereo but in all programs (Ableton, Studio one) on a windows PC you cannot select a different input (Boss USB) and output (your studio monitors). You need a Mac for that trick. It's a pity Boss did not design the line-out with a stereo (TRS) connection so if you do wanted stereo you could use a stereo jack to two mono jacks cable.

Hi. I use my katana with a looper and the chain is set to 4 so there’s no bleed when I switch patches. I like the idea of adding a second katana for stereo, but if I have to use chain 1 or 2, then I’ll lose the independent feature of looping different patches. I typically loop clean rhythm with an overlapping bass line and then solo with an overdrive patch. Will using stereo effects screw up my setup? I don’t want to purchase another katana and find out afterwards that it doesn’t do what I want it to do. Thanks!

@@markdouglas8073 I guess it's possible an instrument cable works? FWIW, a Sweetwater sales engineer told me I needed a TRS cable for this. The "Pro Co BP-15 Excellines Balanced Patch Cable - 1/4-inch TRS Male to 1/4-inch TRS Male" seems to work perfectly.

Hey! I’m thinking about getting two of the boss katana 100 utilizing the stereo mode. But can I do two delays in parallell this way, without any pedals? What would be the best way to play with parallell delay ala The Edge (U2) without spending hundreds of bucks on two delay pedals and a signal splitter?

With the stereo expand, does it have to be another Boss Katana to connect the line out to? I'm guessing just about any other amp will work, but Boss just wants you to buy a second Katana? Does anyone have any info on this please? This is a major reason I'm considering the Katana Artist MKII to use in stereo with my Marshall DSL40CR combo as the 2nd stereo amp and I really don't want to have to buy 2 Katanas if not needed.

Hello, excellent demonstration. I have a question regarding the stereo mode, if in my first amplifier I use a high gain distortion, will the slave also reproduce the same signal? or this effect only work with the FX modulations? Basically what i want to know is can i use the stereo function as if i was using an ABY box. Thanks for the help.

Are you using 2 identical 1x12 Katana 100ʻa or is one of them the 2x12? I have one Katana 100 and I love it, but two would be fantastic. Which way would you suggest going? 1x12 or 2x12?

Could you plug a Katana MKii head into the Katana 212 and use it as a slave? I would prefer to buy the 212 as the speaker source instead of the cabinet so I could decide to use it as just a stand alone combo if needed.
