I have a 2019 awd-e Prius, and I get better mileage than advertised; the spreadsheet has shown that the dash mpg reading is 2-mpg optimistic, and in the summer I've seen 88.6 us mpg; 70 us mpg in the summer is usual. In the winter with winter tires I still get 50-mpg.

Thanks, great vid. I own a 2022 Le Awd and I had been hearing a lot about the vehicle's display-scren MPG consistently reading higher (around 5% higher) than actual MPG achieved when you do the math yourself after fill-up. I was surprised and pleased to see this newer Prius seems to give an accurate self-appraisal with it's MPG display. I need to do the same test on my 2022.

I bought a 2022 Corolla Hybrid a month ago. I am averaging 65 mpg so far. My job is 24 miles from my home, fairly level drive the entire way, the drive is 50% in town and 50% highway speed of 60 mph.
The best it has done was 80 mpg, a temp of 79 degrees for the day, all in town, all flat land.
The drivers foot for sure determines the final mpg.
I have no complaints so far. It's a smooth ride for the money. I bought this car for my next 5 yrs of work going into retirement.

The Prius gets much better gas millage than my car hahaha. You get about 10mpg more than my car
I have a 2018 Chevy Malibu LT (non-hybrid) and the EPA on it is way under what I actually get. I normally get 43mpg if I go ~72mph and 48mpg if I go ~65mph in the city. I can get around 55mpg when I’m driving 55mph in rural areas (no traffic lights). The EPA states that my car gets 36mpg and I only get that when I go 85-90mph. I can still get above 30mpg until I get above 95mph and it drives pretty comfortably at higher speeds. Flow of traffic is generally ~90mph north of Flint and ~80mph on US-23 (like shown on the video)

Does it turn off the gas engine on highway, when electric power is enough? I thought that electric only power is only active below 41 mph. I am surprised that Prius can get 52mpg on the highway without turning off the gas engine. I guess it can still recover good amount of energy by regen during downhills etc.
I kinda like these non plugin hybrids more than plug in hybrids. I feel like plugin ones are complete waste of resources. If you have a big battery, why put gas engine? Put more battery and eliminate the complexity, or put small one to only assist the gas engine.

The battery would have to be 5-10 times bigger than a plug in battery to make an EV range that anyone would buy. It is still a lot cheaper to add a hybrid powertrain with an ICE engine than make the battery that large.

Cars usually burn much more fuel at speeds between 0-40mph than 40-60mph because of momentum. It takes more energy to move a stopped vehicle than a vehicle in motion. Keeping a consistent speed after accelerating burns very little fuel.

I dunno man. My first fill up guesses my range at 570 miles. I had to fill up at 625 miles. I filled with 10.000 gallons, so that math was easy. This tank is estimates my range at 650 miles and I have only used a quarter tank so far. I do have a 2016 two eco, though. When I rented an 18 prius three for a week, I netted 61 mpg on the same work/home trips. I have never gotten in the 50s since driving a 2016 or newer. My 2010 prius two only netted me 48-52 mpg, and that was with some very heavy hypermiling. My gf in her 2010 prius two only gets between 44-48 on an average commute. This newer body style and the better designed MG1 and MG2 that allow up to 68 mph (I've used mg2 upwards of 72 mph downhill) make it ludicrously easy to net deep into the 50s, or by actively driving the car efficiently, into the 60s like myself. I have to keep showing the mpg readouts at work to people because they don't believe me.
