This guy has some big guns for arms. He sits down to torque bolts to 235# without any problems. If it were me, I’d have to stand on a cheater bar to get things down that tight. Nice job. Good video!!!

The way you explain every step of the way is so amazing haven’t had any experience with the Combines. Have stinting farming with an old A84 . Have moved a lot of John Deere machinery over the years use to bring 2 combines a time back in the 80s from Perth to the Eastern states had to replace the drive tyres 10/20 tyres and the back of trailer the other combine tyres sat in a recess. Had wing we folded out for the rest of wheels to sit on the other truck carried the 2 fronts in Australia
As I watch the precision / complicated parts you work on....Can’t imagine the teams of Design Engineers who originally created these unbelievable machines....
Man I tell you what John Deere has it figured out. Everything I look at whether it's in person or in a video like one of yours their engineering is just really something else. I like how they have the hydraulic power going to that drive motor. You were smart to put those hoses back on. I did a drive motor a little while back on 120 foot boom man lift and I put the little plastic caps in overnight..came back the next morning to 56 gallons of oil on the floor lol.. you only do that once
It is amazing how complex the design is. I appreciate your methodical approach to the repairs you do. There is a good lesson there. Thank you for sharing your expertise.

Good job, thank you for posting,. I have never been too comfortable with that type of rear wheel drive, I remember the early J.D. Tractors with front wheel assist, not one of J.D. best ideas. Aside from that the X9 Combine is very good

How much of the horsepower does it take just to move that behemoth? I have a 1928 Rumely Oil Pull 25-40 that rates 40hp for the pulley and 25hp for the drawbar accounting for the hp it takes to move the thing. It's interesting to see the new technology. I have a set of tool steel wedges I had made with nice chamfered edges and various angles . They would have been perfect for getting that tie rod off . One each side and tap them in .. if the space allows 👍
Thanks for another great video Zeth. That sure was a heavy drive motor and I like to picture weights in my head and was trying to relate it to how many bags of sugar it equaled. Here in the UK a standard bag is about 2lb (1KG) and that sure would have been one mighty pile of sugar 🙂. I take the old motor goes back to the factory for re-manufacturing?
Saw that 2 1000 traded in at our local JD dealer. Crawled all over those massive green giants. Makes me wonder why they were traded in. Cost of ownership vs lease option must be very high for one season.
Hah, totally different ballgame from the wheel motor I replaced in a toro 4500 rough mower at work. The old motor had a good sized pinhole that corroded its way through the cast iron. We were constantly filling the machine up with oil and the mechanic couldn’t find where it was coming from. I eventually found it but the way the machine is built I had to have the mower on Jack stands and lay on my back on a creeper and then man handle the motor up until we could get bolts in. Now keep in mind, I’m not a mechanic. I’m a laborer with an interest in mechanical gizmos. So often I’ll take on some of the stuff I know the mechanic won’t do. But it was a fun experience. And I don’t know what the hell was going on with the motor but it had like 6-7 hydraulic ports on it. So that was fun 😂 Honestly looks like your job is pretty straight forward aside from the behemoth of a wheel motor you’re dealing with. And that strange assembly with the oil tubes. That’s weird.
That takes more than a notion to replace that motor , as always , good job Zeth ! I'm not so sure that everything new is necessarily better than the older stuff .
That flashlight taste good? Can I make a suggestion. Go to Olight. They have some great flashlights including some that clip on the brim of your hat. A little pricey but worth it I think.

Hmm hydraulic driven wheels never would have thought ... Worked in Navy Aviation what pressure is your standard op pressure... we did 3k and we used a red fluid ... cant remember the spec or civilian equivalent
If there's one thing I'm picking up from all these great videos is that JD engineers are a couple of steps up the convoluted design ladder from German engineers.

New to the channel, I've been using the JD lithium complex to grease my tractor and mowers/spindles. Should I be using the polyurea grease? And are they compatible? Thanks!
When putting that motor in, I would’ve put a lifting link in the tire bolt hole, put the strap around that, and then used a 1/4 ton come along to level it out.
ZK. How many thousands of dollars in drive belts are there in those 1000 series combine machieans. They look like a person could spend a whole day per side just replceing drive belts along with a good burrows belt tension gauge. Oh, one may want to talk to God about which way that belt went, even with that pretty belt pathway diagram. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏👍👈😎

Its crazy how large and heavy that hydraulic motor is. It is good to see what you are getting into with an x9 combine.

Worked for greens/ heritage family farms in Arthur, 7mph with a 16 row head is getting things done. It’s really unbelievable

ZK, I’d much rather hear the torque and kw numbers over the HP, of you have them. Torque rating is where it’s at.💪

Does JD not have tech manuals.that provide.detailed instructions on maintenance tasks? Seems like you just do the best you can do.
Sometimes they can be vague. But they are pretty good for the most part

No they are two speed, direct drive, cam-lobe type, radial piston motors.
They sure are more complicated than the older Mud Hogs. Do you know how many gallons per minute ? Are they a 2 speed ?

I have taken a tap and treaded the inner part of dowel , then use a pusher bolt .

Question, why didn’t you flood the new motor with oil prior to closing it up? Isn’t there a risk of damage ? Great work as always!
I didn't drain the system down so the hoses filled the motor up when I hooked them up. I had to put 5 gallons of oil in it to top it off.
If I drained the system down completely then yes I would have pre filled through the case drain port.
I was surprised you don't wear overalls/coveralls? What's that all about? Don't they do your size?
