  • We follow FeminEast, the Wellington East Girls' College Feminist club, as they make their first collaborative zine. Caitlin, Bella and Jess, three young feminists who run the club, introduce us to zine-making and its potential to share feminist ideas.
Made for the Inspiring Stories Film Competition 2014.
Winner: Creativity & Culture Award; and Best in Wellington Award

I have NO idea why this showed up in my recommendations in 2023 - definitely one of YT's lucky dip additions to the mix. but it worked. we need to experience (or remember) in order to feel, and feel in order to act. this pulled me out of a weeks-long funk... haven't worked with younger people since 2018 qand it'd been starting to show... and this brought it all rushing back - the energy, idealism, enthusiasm, can-do determination.
My own somewhat parasitic 'feeding' on this video, zines have always been such a focus for activism and education. the action of physical making and the intensely personal and local nature of the thing... it shows in the commitment this team displayed. I just hope after 8 years they are still feeling that personal engagement, are still making a difference.

my school has a feminism club and even though I do consider myself a feminist I never went cause I was worried my friends would make fun of them and call me an sjw or something but this has inspired me to go to the next meeting and talk to them about possibly making zines
