Dark Form Eastern Tiger Swallowtail

  • The Easter Tiger Swallowtail has a dark form, and here she is. I say she, because it’s known that only females show in this dark form. Some may be more familiar with the yellow and black ones that are more common. But if you’ve never seen her in dark form, she is STUNNING!
    She will lay her eggs on several options in my habitat. But here are the larvae host plants needed for her young.
    Caterpillar Hosts: Leaves of various plants including wild cherry (Prunus), sweetbay (Magnolia), basswood (Tilia), tulip tree (Liriodendron), birch (Betula), ash (Fraxinus), cottonwood (Populus), mountain ash (Sorbus), and willow (Salix).
