Wonderful and quite illusive bird, I would say, excellent footages as usual! It has been years since I last saw it, in Wales, if I’m not mistaken. I remember that the Kingfisher made several occasional appearances along the Someș river, which flows through Cluj-Napoca, my home city, when I was young. I have not seen it recently, though. My son was lucky enough to visit your homeland as part of an E.U. scheme, it looks very beautiful.

At our local park we have a river and every year we get a pair of kingfishers nesting. We love seeing them fly in and out of the nest every few minutes and we also get some good pictures.
That’s great to hear. It was the luck of the draw for me as I’ve been to the same place and only had a fleeting view. You’re very lucky to see them regularly!
It’s such a pleasure to have discovered your films. Beautifully observed visuals, and fine sounds of this lovely bird. They seem to call most in motion, so it must be quite difficult to catch both together....
Really great footage, I've been out filming a male over the past few weeks, not quite managed to capture the best quality footage yet as the light has been poor and he hides himself well amongst his favourite willow tree so there's often branches in the way. I'm using a Sony AX53 or my Canon 700D with 70-300mm L series lens although today was lent a Canon 100-400mm L series lens so hoping for decent weather.
+ArcturanMegadonkey I was very lucky finding out about Forest Farm because the hide there is only about 15 feet from the Kingfisher's perch and it returns regularly!

there's a healthy population of kingfishers along the river taff between merthyr vale and merthyr tydfil. with aberfan and troedyrhiw being their hotspot. i thought i saw three males quarelling over a female a couple of weeks back. until i realised it was mother and father with two male chicks.
Thanks Jeremy. Amazing! I've only had fleeting glimpses of Kingfishers on rivers. Forest Farm definitely the best and most reliable place for them, although saying that the last time I went there, a couple of weeks ago, they were doing some maintenance work and I didn't see one! I must take your tip and give the Taff a try up by Merthyr.

The lack of more of it calling is because it's mostly silent and it doesn't actually sing as such.The call I recorded was the only noise it made in two full days of filming and as you can hear that was a sort of exclamation in flight. Still you've given me a good reason to re-visit this topic and see if I can't capture more audio!
