There were tricked-out Cadillacs, Buick Electra 225s, and Pontiac Bonnevilles parked outside run-down apartments and shabby, neglected houses. Not much changes.
The houses aren't cheap actually lol most of them houses are 300,00$ they looked better back then it's just most the opl living there dont wanna move cuz it's been their family for generations or because they can t afford to move because noone would want to buy their house because its run down . I was born and raised on the WESTSIDE of Atlanta. And I turned out well. My family for the most part isn’t gutter. As a matter of fact my mom still has her house and the area is skyrocketing price wise. Half the time people won’t bother you unless you bother them.

All this talk about "How great and iconic a southern US city that Atlanta has become over the years!", and here there are neighborhoods consisting of fields of garbage, vacant factories and business establishments, boarded up/burned out houses and apartment buildings, all of which some are randomly scattered, and some are packed all together! Thing is that people have the audacity to diss cities like Detroit, all while they don't even take the time to look in their own "barnyards"!
The harsh reality is when gentrification comes through they'll push the people out , clean the trash out and then rebuild it just like they did to east Atlanta ...When you don't take care of something you lose it ...
FACTS!! Moved here 7 years ago from a suburban town in PA. This place is filthy and it's a completely different type of poor. It's not all that folks pretend it to be. I'll be moving to FL in 2 more years. It's great to open and flourish Black owned businesses though...that's it.

They are gentrifing that area right now. This looks like the old Bankhead. Two days ago the city opened up the biggest green space park in Atlanta right over there on the Westside. All those projects are gone and it's no longer called Bankhead it's West midtown now. Alot of what you're seeing in this vedio is longer there.

Years ago alot of black people started to move outside of Atlanta to Cobb County, Gwinnett County and white people started to move to Atlanta now that the gentrification is in full effect and developers are buying and remodeling those run down areas that were abandon and not kept up more and more white people are moving into those areas and it's changing the face of what the old neighborhoods use to look like and the property value has sky rocket and most blacks won't be able to live in those areas anymore. Those areas do look really nice but they'll not for the average black family.

This was well before they demolished Bankhead Courts and renamed that section of Bankhead Hwy to Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway. I enjoyed living there and loved all my old neighbors. This brings back a lot of memories, even if it does look much different these days.
They have yet to gentrify the city's Westside area. But I'd say in 5 years this all will be gentrified drastically like how they did East Atlanta. It was the once the most violent side of the city now it's easily the most safe. They tore down all the hoods and rebuilt them, moved in the whites and I'm pretty sure either the Southside or westside is next.
