I've always wondered how color lithography was done. The descriptions of it that I've read never seemed very clear on exactly how it works and always left me scratching my head. Thanks for demonstrating it in a much more understandable way.
It's a homemade litho press, an aluminum topped plywood bed with two steel tubes underneath. I have two U shaped pieces of steel underneath full of oil and it slides on those. And the crank wheel is attached to a drum that pulls a tow strap attached to the bed. Quite a horrible press that constantly leaks oil on my table :(
omg those metal trimmers are really cool! After paper stretching, do you still soak them before printing or leave it dry? I am thinking of using etching papers for some of my prints and I wonder what would be your advice? Lastly for punch registration, if I am working with 1 or more plate/stones for the image, how do you make sure they're registered? keep up the great work ! :)
When I do multiple color prints I prefer to print with dry paper. While I have not tested it, I worry that wetting paper would let it expand and potentially throw off my registration. For Punch registration using multiple stones/plates I will tape a set of registration pins to each matrix and use one master sketch(with holes punched) for the planning of each matrix. I've also tried punching holes into clear Mylar and printing my key layer onto it, and taking that to my other stones for reference. Good luck!

Should consider using a brush to apply your etching. Using your hands is not smart.
