Question. If an associate is proposed for membership and he's at the swearing in ceremony and for whatever reason gets cold feet. Realizes he doesn't want to leave his dying mothers bedside for the "family" what would be the ramifications of saying "I don't want to be made a member". Did this ever happen as far as you know Mike. God bless yo and your family Mike.
I highly doubt that's ever happened. Although the rules of membership are repeated during the ceremony, they are nowhere near secret leading up to that point. Chances are, most eventually-made members would have known all the rules long before they even became associates. Example: I've been aware of the rules of membership for over 20 years (since age 13), and I have absolutely no involvement in Cosa Nostra, nor the desire to become involved.
@@HamiltonRb Assuming the fact! It's so improbable that Assuming that it would ever happen is the most important variable of the question, thus any answer is assumption!

Just watched this and many other of your videos. Fascinating. Prayers for your daughter and entire family. Thank you for sharing this and the other videos. Much respect to you sir.
Thank you for the video. My parents (not involved) had many friends in the “family”. As a kid these family friends were always at our holiday gatherings and were fun to be around. Very animated story tellers to us kids, but as I grew older I started to realize who they were and what they did for a living. Most have passed on, but I miss those people and love them all regardless of their lifestyle they were part of.
Isn't it weird that the people that is the most fun somehow have darker backgrounds? Not only applied to that life, but their existence is kind of way harder. I had family and friends like that and boy they are sorely missed.
I’m perfectly bilingual in Italian. I clearly remember this story in the Italian media; I remember seeing a picture of THE original document that was found, in the Italian papers. And the part that Mr Franzese is quoting at timestamp 15:40 (obviously he did not translate the document; the Italian authorities did), regarding “holding moral values”, is misleading. On the original, written document that was discovered, although the wording was very similar, and it is kinda a direct translation, the Italian version actually was worded in a way that people in Italy (especially slightly older people, say born in the 1920s 30s or 40s), would definitely understand to mean “anyone with homosexual ideation” (even if not actively carried out). But that wording is quite old fashioned now. Maybe they left out any hint of this, in the translation, for ‘political correctness’, and so it could be circulated in today’s mainstream American press without offence. Interesting though....
Its hard to project tone via text. So to state for the record, I am saying this without malice. I can appreciate the comment but Italian and Sicilian (all the dialects spoken throughout the italian south) are two completely different things. To understand them you have to undestand the culture. If you do speak italian perfectly then you know that a word or phrase can mean more than one thing depending on context. In the Italian south the language is a perfect example of this. 👍
@@jaiess540 Yes, absolutely agreed (and also, no malice detected in your post 🙂). In fact when I’ve gone to Italy with British friends over the years, and we’ve travelled from the north, southwards, they are often very confused and surprised, when I start trying to explain how words, phrases etc. have different meanings, depending on where you are. This then often reminds me just how nuanced the language is.... and the “English to Italian translation for tourists”-type books, that they often bought at the airport, go in the bin, as they realise that they are way too over-simplified! 👍
@@angelogandolfo4174 I get that. It's just like how here in America gtfoh can be offensive to someone on the west coast, but on the east coast it just means "are you kidding me?"
@Daniel Huffy Where in the world did you get that? In the first place I am not making a moral or ethical judgement on anyone's life pro or con. That isn't my place. I love everybody for who they are and hate most people for how they act. The comment, however, is a statement on old school (often derogatory) euphemisms. When the old school Southerners and first and second generation Europeans say "ethnic", they mean African American. When they say "cultural", they usually mean Latinix (I think that's how you are supposed to spell it now). When they say "Religious" or "In that religion", in the North they means Jews, in the South, they generally mean Catholic. "Held to high moral standards" means no homosexuals. Interestingly, "Lifelong bachelor", especially in the South, usually meant gay, but with money and name, so they get invited to the parties.
Michael, thank you for your videos as they are extremely interesting. I specialize in Italian Studies with a focus on southern Italian dialects/regional languages. Is this document available online? Mike my Uncle Detective Ray Taylor worked in the 122 Precinct on Staten Island in May 1973. They got a call that there was a homicide at Snoopy’s bar on Staten Island on Castleton Ave New Brighton. John Gotti entered the bar with two other guys and pretended to be cops they shot the guy in the head several times. Turns out he kidnapped the nephew of a mod boss and demanded $100,000. A witness identified Gotti and my Uncle arrested him in Howard Beach. There a famous picture of Gotti and my Uncle Ray Taylor in custody. Gotti and my Uncle got along and he handcuffed Gotti in the front instead of behind his back. Gotti hired Roy Cohn and Gotti told my Uncle he’ll do three years and he did. Gotti then became a made guy. If you look up Detective Ray Taylor and John Gotti you’ll see the picture.

@@diaznutz5054 yup..and? By his own admission he was a bad man in his past so I see this as a form of redemption.

May the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit bless your daughter with good health and a speedy recovery.
Your gonna like this guy he's a goodfella. ...
He is a very Wise Guy...
He's had enough time to make such decision and if he was unsure about it, it would only mean that he's disrespectful and he would get clipped!
Pasha Pasovski Are you just assuming or is that a fact?
The person who proposed his membership is reprimanded or potentially killed for even considering him for membership.
@@HamiltonRb Assuming the fact!
It's so improbable that Assuming that it would ever happen is the most important variable of the question, thus any answer is assumption!
Very interesting story. Thanks 🙂
I absolutely love this channel, these videos and the advice Mr Franzese passes along.👍😁.
Hi Mike: Praying for your daughter to get well soon. Best regards from Argentina.

Why did I think I heard a gunshot in the background 🤦🏻♀️😂. I love these stories. I’m so hooked on this channel. 😍😍😍

The Irishman when Hoffa was meeting Crazy Joe Gallo.
@@onerandombruh yeah really weird.
@@jaiess540
Yes, absolutely agreed (and also, no malice detected in your post 🙂).
@@angelogandolfo4174 ahh yes i know the translation books you speak of...lol 😆 thanx for the reply.
@@angelogandolfo4174 I get that. It's just like how here in America gtfoh can be offensive to someone on the west coast, but on the east coast it just means "are you kidding me?"
So no "comin from behind kinda guys" .
Is that what your saying? 😂
"Hold to moral values" is generally old school for no homosexuals.
Lol true
Daniel Huffy No, he was making a joke about Conservatives
What a stretch. Are you a homosexual that believes the Grand Canyon was created so homosexuals cannot jump it? Just wondering?
@@ered203 Yup, "degenerate" is a common euphemism as well.
I could listen to you talking all day...Hope your daughter is getting better...Much♥️🇦🇺💋
Micheal what did the mafia think about Pablo Escobar?
yes, avery interesting question!
Yeah that would make a good video with the mafias dislike of drugs.
when micheal was doing 10,000,000 dollars a week.... Pablo was doing 500,000,000 a week
They don't do drugs ...

Michael, thank you for your videos as they are extremely interesting. I specialize in Italian Studies with a focus on southern Italian dialects/regional languages. Is this document available online? I would be very interested in doing some linguistic analysis on the language used in this document. Whether it was written in standard Italian or a variant of Sicilian or a mix of both etc...

Been watching Sammy Gravano and found your channel two days ago. My family came over from Sicily in the late 1800’s. I am 45 and fourth generation Italian American from the New Orleans area. I Love the videos.
God bless you Michael..big support from Europa,Serbia.
I swear every time Micheal pronounces his name it changes a lil bit.
@Walid Films - LOL!
That's because you spell the name 'Michael' wrong..
I'm pretty sure Italian Americans don't pronounce their own surnames properly in general lol
@@Nutmegp I feel like it's from being a few generations removed so you're more used to other Americans saying it than Italians/could be families just accepting how it got pronounced when they came here because they got tired of correcting people.
@@Nutmegp I'm italian, can confirm

I dont know why but I just love the sounds of the dishes in the background of these videos. The water runing, someone is coughing, a dog barks. These sounds make me feel like I am a guest in Michael's house and I'm just sitting listening to mob stories from the past.
Thanks for sharing
Speedy recovery for your daughter
