    Haha! Funny story, I was flying one of these at night with a friend of mine in Ohio. All lit up with led's and a police car pulled up to see what was going on. He was very friendly, but we were cracking up explaining to the officer that they were called Nutballs! ;)

    I built a couple of these - simply awesome. Great for indoors, you can actually hover them. Snappy rolls, I've flown them inverted (a challenge for sure!) and they're easy to fly so you can switch to low rates and hand the transmitter to a rank beginner.

    Just built my Nutball seems fine except for two issues. The centre of gravity can only be made correct by 60 grams of nose weight! The only thing I can think of (as I followed the plans) is putting a fine waterproofing bead of hot glue - wiped off on the perimeter of the foam. I also wiped hot glue on the elevator hinge but despite wiping it off the hinge is stiff and down elevator does not work well.
    Battery 3 cell LiPo velcroed up front - Blue Wonder motor.
    I would appreciate any advice.
    Great show and I am starting again after 35 years away from the hobby. lots of great technical innovations - I love your attitude at Flite Test and hope you prosper.

    I built your Nutball version for indoor season up here in the Great White North. Wow! It is THE-TOUGHEST-PLANE-EVER! I am a newbie, it paid the price. Takes a kicking and keeps on ticking. It is a ton of fun...

    @theimacman Technically they're doing both. They are sponsored by both Horizon Hobby and Hobby King. They will occasionally do videos that are promoting something other than one of those two sponsors, but they have to keep the bills paid. They produce a professional show, giving many hours of their day for the videos, the websites, and the forum. All of which, we get to enjoy for free.

    This is close to the Arup S-2 of the '30s, which the Vought V-173 plane was based on, and very closer to the Boeing model 390 design for the flapjack naval fighter.

    I know your asking them, but ill tell you want i use for every battery i own (lipo's) the ACDC Common Sense. i paid like 70$ for it and its perfect for 1cell - 6 cells. it does a bunch of other stuff too, but after you get ino rc planes, youll want a good transmitter. after you get a good transmitter next thing youll want is a good charger. and for some reason, chargers are a slippery item. most dont plug into the wall right out of the box, but the one listed above can go into wall, or your car

    "You've always got to keep a little bit of back pressure at certain times, but also if it gets ready to balloon be on the elevator a little bit."
    What is back pressure and what is ballooning?

    • @arfintr1522
      @arfintr1522 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Back pressure is just pulling the elevator back up to pitch the plane upwards, as for ballooning, I have no idea :D Hope this helps!

    • @spindash64
      @spindash64 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@arfintr1522this comment is a decade old, but in case someone else passes by with similar questions, Ballooning is where the plane begins to climb away from the runway when you're trying to land, because you're still going too fast, and the wing is making too much lift when you point the nose up like that

    This "plane" by far has the weirdest fly characteristics I've ever seen. I bought the swappable Speed Build kits and this being the very first build. It really wants to roll.
    I like flying it just because it flies so goofy, but definitely not a favorite plane to fly.
    Can't wait to build the FT Bloody Wonder and Versa Wing.

    can i ask if it is possible to use a 2200kv motor instead of the 1100kv that FliteTest recommend? I'll be using a 6x4 prop on the 2200kv too.

    Hey guys! as someone just getting interested in this hobby, i'd like to know what kind of battery charger would be best for the basic types of batteries you use in planes such as the nutball, funbat, and others like that. I think i know what I should buy for everything else, but can't find info on chargers. Thanks!

  • @RCllamadude
    @RCllamadude 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @paraflightschool you know flitetest didn't invent these right? They were invented by a GENIUS on rcgroups. Search for nutball on rcgroups. But I think the racer idea is awesome.
    P.S. No top comment... BALLS!!!!!!!!!

    Reminds me of the Zimmerman designs in the 1930's The flying flapjack was very similer and your model acts very much like it in high angle slow flight.

    • @arfintr1522
      @arfintr1522 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Nutball has a very influential rudder, It's surface is quite large so when you sharply turn it, the plane should roll nicely.

    flite test, I love what you do, but I think you need to give less emphasis on crashing planes. Every vid I see had you guys joking around about crashing your planes and it being easy to rebuild them and seeming to take fun in crashing them. Not everyone finds it easy to buy equipment to rebuild after crashing. Lets see you guys have more fun flying rather than crashing,.
