It's interesting to hear you speak about climbing the ranks. I acquired my MBA last year, took a new job, and was told that it was a flat leadership setup. I was an IT Director in my previous role and am now a systems admin. How should I got about getting back into those leadership roles that I want? How do I network better? I've applied to jobs and get the black hole effect.

Hey there Scott! Thank you so much for tuning in to our livestream. Congratulations on attaining your MBA, that is impressive. Climbing the ranks in your career and transitioning back into leadership roles after taking a position as a systems admin can be challenging but is certainly achievable. Here are some steps you can take to help you progress in your career and improve your networking.
Two things that immediately come to mind are self-assessments and goal setting. I would begin by assessing your skills and experiences, both from your previous role as an IT Director and your current role as a systems admin. Identify your strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement. And lean into the fact that being skilled in both these areas is an asset, not a detriment.
Have a vision for exactly where you want to go in your profession, set clear career goals, and define the type of leadership role you want to attain. This takes serious focus, but it will really help you focus your efforts and target the right opportunities.
Regarding networking, I can't stress enough how useful this can be. As you heard us discuss in the live stream, it's crucial for career growth. I recommend attending industry conferences, seminars, and events to meet people in your field.
LinkedIn is a terrific resource, too. It's ideal for connecting with colleagues and professionals in your industry. On many social sites, there are special interest groups you can research and connect with and start building your network. Make sure your LinkedIn profile is up to date and showcases your skills and achievements. keep your resume updated and ready for the possibilities!
Lastly, remember, finding the right job opportunity can take time, so be patient. Keep applying for roles and refining your approach based on the feedback you receive. Don't get discouraged by the "black hole effect." We've all been there. It's common for job applications to go unanswered, but persistence pays off.
I hope this helps. Good luck!
