Definitely check your local farmers for hay! Your supporting a local business, it's better for the environment, and the hay is usually much higher quality than Oxbow and Kaytee. Some will even deliver to your door or sell chew sticks (mine sells apple and birch!)

I don't know if you knew this - but the reason clovers are grown in hay fields is because their roots keep the ground healthier and therefore makes the hay higher quality and higher yielding :)

My bunny loves his hay! I recently started buying a variety of the small bags that Oxbow sells including: timothy, meadow, oat, and orchard. My rabbit, Louie, seems to greatly enjoy the additional flavors & scents of hay. Not only that, but I’ve found that he prefers one brand’s timothy hay to another. I didn’t really think about different fields having different flavors, but it totally makes sense.

Lennon the bunny is who encouraged me to make a room for my new bunny. Having a handful of tasty herbs at home is superuseful. My bun is a heavy hay eater and has perfect teeth, but we noticed his teeth were sightly uneven some weeks ago. He was feeling unwell due to E. Cuniculi (no organ nor neurological damage, we found it pretty soon) and was munching less hay than he uses to, so we mixed herbs with the hay and he starting munching as usual. Now teeth are normal again and has returned to normal hay eating (no herbs needed), this way we prevented a stressful dental exploration while recovering from E. Cuniculi.

All mine eat a mix of Timothy/alfalfa/oat hay that has some molasses. Its actually marketed for horses but they do well with it . I'll still drop a small Timothy/ alfalfa cube in the cage a couple times a week. They get a variety of greens 2× a day and 1 tbsp of pellets as a treat at evening.. they are all around 4 months old.

"Right now, there are people all over the world who are just like you. They're either lonely, they're missing somebody, they're depressed, they're hurt, they're scarred from the past, they're having personal issues no one knows about, they have secrets you wouldn't believe. They wish, they dream and they hope. And right now, they are sitting here reading these words, and I'm writing this for you so you don't feel alone anymore. Always remember, don't be depressed about the past, don't worry about the future, and just focus on today. If today's not so great don't worry! Tomorrow's a new chance. My bunnies love the meadow box! Although my little Holland lop will climb inside if the hay gets too low. So he makes us keep it full! Man I would love the one with handles! I have one of the original boxes. I would definitely get a second one down the road. Thanks for such a helpful video!

You mentioned that rabbits may like one type of hay more than the other, how will you be able to tell?

I switched to orchard grass because I'm very allergic to timothy hay and then once my rabbits had orchard grass they went absolutely crazy for it

I have 11 week old buns, I was giving them Timothy hay, till I saw a local feed store had bales of Alfalfa. So I got one and have it all over the house. Unfortunately the Alfalfa isn't working for them, their poop got very small and black. But they absolutely love the taste, its like bunny nip for them so I have to mix Alfalfa and Timothy that I give them.

Can I dedicate a part of my yard to grow my own grass? When I was doing it No mow May I used to seek app to identify some of the grass in the yard. I had some course Meadow grass and then a few weeks later I had some smooth meadow grass that I identified. Of course I still have to buy hey but can I use stuff that’s right in my own one to feed my rabbit?

One thing I will say is latest research shows that calcium intake doesn't seem to be a primary cause of bladder sludge, in fact, no one knows what may cause it. The main culprits seem to potentially be are actually lack of water and lack of exercise. The idea is that bladder sludge is always present but it shows up more when a rabbit has little urine and doesn't move a lot. Calcium intake doesn't seem to matter much if at all

Unfortunately there are no rabbit shelters in Puerto Rico and sometimes they start selling them as soon as 4 weeks old (I understand they shouldn't be weaned off milk completely 'til 6 weeks? Please correct me if I'm wrong). So, in a case like this, would you recommend alfalfa hay alone or would an alfalfa + timothy hay or orchard grass combination be better? Until the 3 month mark, I mean.
