  • These maps show why America is failing. But they're totally funny.
Maps. They’re very good at helping to understand a place aren’t they? You can look at a map of the United States but it isn’t really HELPFUL in understanding what it’s really like in each state. So, we’re gonna look at a bunch of DIFFERENT maps so we can REALLY understand what America is like. These are maps that hilariously explain America. With additional insights.
This map shows where there are more bars OR grocery stores in the USA depending on where you live. The red dots are areas where there’s more bars than there are grocery stores.
This map shows where all the different races in America are.
Here’s a map that shows who the highest paid public employee is in each state. Almost every single one is a football or basketball coach at some big college.
Here’s a map that shows the fattest countries in the world.
Here’s an interactive one that shows how fast Walmart grew beginning in 1962.
Okay so we’re the most overweight nation on earth. We’re also number one in prisons per capita.
The orange color is where half the county’s wealth is, and the blue is the other half. Half the country’s wealth is in those few little orange areas.
This map shows how big Alaska really is.
This shows us which countries have the most soldiers stationed in other countries.
Guess which country gives new moms NO paid leave? We do.
Here’s a US map that shows where no one lives.
Here’s a look at the happiest states in the country.
Here’s where all the McDonalds are in the US.
This is basically a look at what each state is interested in by looking at their popular search terms.
Here’s the most recognizable brand in each state.
Okay so..Here’s all the countries that have the death penalty
This map shows where there’s more single people based on gender.
Here we can see the amount of snow it takes to cancel school by county.
Here’s a map of every tornado in the last 50 years.

I lived in Alaska for 2 years. We didn't have any snow-days for school, but the whole town shut down on really nice weather days. We literally called them sun-days and the school budgeted for 5 or 6 a year.

Awesome. Everyone should take a few nice days off. I don't know if they still do it, but I visited Japan back in the Late Triassic and they had this awesome spring holiday for flower viewing (Cherry blossoms maybe? Hahna-something?) It had no fixed date. It was set on "Whatever the absolute best spring day is" and was determined by the weather bureau in three zones. So you'd get about a week's warning, and on an absolutely glorious spring day the entire town would pack a big bento and sake picnic and go hang out in the park (No I don't remember if it was legal. That's what I saw). Sleep in, grab some breakfast, pack a big lunch and some beer, mosey over to the park and play frisbee or whatnot. Always on a guaranteed great weather day, and everybody goes. I thought that was frikkin epic. Legend holds that some towns used to make a flimsy wooden lunchbox and smash it at the end of the day. Symbolic? Enjoy that day, cuz you don't get to go back? Neat either way. Anyway, your town sounds pretty cool and your Tale triggered a pleasant memory. If it's a lovely day, you shouid go out and play. Tell your boss to take his "perfect attendance" bonus and ram it up his profit margin.

"Look at the deep South: Hardly any bars, just a lot of grocery stores."
Well, you don't need as many bars when every grocery store, gas station, and CVS in the entire South has a dedicated liquor shelf and a walk-in beer cooler.

It's just we like to eat so there's more grocery stores.
But that map was wrong anyway. New Orleans at the least should have had a red dot. I there are more bars on bourbon Street alone than grocery stores in the city. So all this crap is false if that's false.

Don't need bars when Holy Spirit is inside of you either
Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 1 Corinthians 6:19
Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit Acts 2:38
The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him- the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of might, the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the LORD Isaiah 11:2
26 But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. John 14:26

Having grown up in the 1960's I have a different take on why there is no paid maternity leave in the US.
Wages used to be high enough such that a single wage earner household could afford to have children and buy a house.
If you wanted kids - then someone stayed home - back then, it was usually mom - but that's a different subject.
Once wages quit keep pace with inflation (back in the 1970's) then everyone had to go to work - just to pay the rent.

      @@prorace_type_r I'm certainly good with that -
there are some deeply ingrained variations in social attitudes in the US.

@@theblackbear211 sure. You are right there. In Spain in particular the 60s were a golden decade too after the country was granted more openness and relationships and probably that affects my point of view. At that time here you could go to the cinema for 20pts->0'08USD (probably more back then but still cheap af). Average salary was 12000->81USD.
      So, 0'16% of our salary
Nowadays, you pay like 7EUR->9USD. Average salary about 1300EUR. -> 0'53%
It takes 3 to 4 times more percentage of our salary than before.

As a person who lived in NJ and moved to NC, the "how much snow it takes to cancel school" map is pretty accurate. It would take a nice amount of snow for NJ to keep you from coming to school. They'll send you to school with a nice amount of snow and ice on the ground. NC, as soon as they see a snowflake falling from the sky, they cancel school for a few days.

In the future, say a thousand years from now, America will be known, if civilization survives through the next few centuries at all, as a past civilization that was doomed from the start. It depended upon being a melting pot of the many different peoples of the world piling into one Nation and giving up who they are and where they came from to assimilate into being American. Whatever that means. You simply can not put the whole world, with all its different races with all their different cultures, languages, beliefs, and feudal ancient past conflicts and hatreds into one single Country without chaos, outbreaks of power struggles for domination and constant fear and unrest becoming the norm. America shall become further divided into what Europe and Asia look like with African sections too. It's akin to putting all eggs in one weak hanging basket above wild animals who can reach it.

After the arrival of the American and British militaries, these islands had a huge shift towards industrialization and had forty years to adapt to the modern way of life.
Nauru, for example, took advantage of its phosphate wealth which temporarily made it the world's richest country until the phosphate ran out and industry collapsed. Because of all the mining, the people got stuck on a tiny silver of livable land. Now relying on whatever imported goods they can get. You have to keep in mind these places are some of the smallest countries on the planet. So something like a fast-food chain, tourist resort, or trade deal would make a bigger impact on these places than it would on a country like India.

My Uncle, Vern Tittsworth fought and defended the Figi Islands in WW2, Dad was bobbing around out there on a ship, in the Navy. The King, invited them back, to thank them all for what they had done, on more than one occasion. Vern lugged a B.A.R. onto shore, complaining, until then, about how heavy they are. He survived, and the few behind him, because “that gun shot through coconut trees”.

The Walmart map isn't surprising lol. Here's a little story about Walmart. Way back in the dinosaur days when Walmart first started, the owner Sam Walton used to be the door greeter at his original store in Arkansas. They opened a few more and he would travel to each store and just be the door greeter. Finally he opened a store in southeast Texas, close to my home. I had been to one of the 1st WM in Texas up near Dallas, we flew to Dallas on weekend for the Cotton bowl game and we were staying at my friends buddies house and they lived a few miles from the first Texas Walmart. I seen Sam Walton there working the door as a greeter. I seen him a few years later when they opened the store in Crosby which was close to my house. Sam Walton was the door greeter for several months after opening the store in Crosby. The man literally remembered me from his store in either Dallas or Plano, I don't remember where it was. But the man even told me that he remembered me and asked how I enjoyed the Cotton bowl game. Now I was in my Sr yr of high school when I went to Dallas on a plane and without my parents knowing and Mr Sam Walton ratted on me by accident lol. My Mom and I went to the Walmart that day and I had no clue that man had a stellar memory lol. I was in college at this point so I couldn't get in trouble anymore but it was funny lol. Mr Walton was a pretty sweet and amazing man. His sons and grandchildren run Walmart now and Mr Walton would be very disappointed in the quality of service in Walmart today.

My two youngest started school there and was outcast from the other children and the children's parents warned them not to play with my children. It's a really messed up state as far as religion goes. I was the mom with tattoos and let her kids play on Sundays. My youngest daughter made one friend while there and it's because they were Jewish that they understand all of the issues we faced. I was very happy to move back to Florida in 2018 and will never move from here ever again. My family moved and has moved a lot to many states but none as horrible as Utah as in treatment as a person. William's Gas Pipeline was my husband's employer and was the reason for moving. I am too old now for this kind of moving around and am glad to be home (Florida) than anywhere I have ever lived...... except England! England was wonderful but in the U.S. this is my home state and yes tons of weird people live here but we don't treat people as second class citizens because we have a different religion and relationship with God. I could never understand why they thought they were so much better than anyone else? Would God himself treat people this way? What about love thy neighbor? When I was a kid, it was considered very rude to ask someone what party they belong to. Political discussions were about a particular issue or person - parties weren't mentioned. The founding fathers knew that to have a true democracy, citizens had to be sure that no one would know who they voted for. Voter privacy allows people to vote how they want to, without fear of retribution from anyone. I think we'd get more done in this country if we didn't have parties at all - each adult gets one vote, & it's based on the people running, not some generalized ideas called a "party".

I worked setting up a new store in the Gentilly section of New Orleans in 2002. The first place I ever heard of legal shoplifting. The manager told employees that if someone stole something to just to let them have it, that is wasn't worth their life. And the residents were just that dangerous. I couldn't figure out how a business could function in such a place. And it really couldn't, except that they wrote off all the theft as a loss.
I have had some great times there too. But most of them did involve alcohol. .

At 9:40 you said we Wyoming natives want to "stop drinking", however you've made a very VERY common mistake. Wyoming actually searched for "Hot Wings" and Colorado wants to stop drinking. Our rectangles often get confused by other state residents who have bumps and divots in their border (Idaho's looking like a pharaoh on his throne, Washington looking like a left mitten, Michigan looking like a right mitten, Florida looking like an illegal handgun, Illinois looking like a ballerina's toe shoe, California looking like it is spooning Nevada, etc etc). An easy way to remember which rectangle is which is to remember that Colorado is the shipping box, and Wyoming is the styrofoam block that fits into it. PS. I live in Canada now. Would love to see how the Provinces and Territories stack up against our southern neighbour in all your comparisons.

fellow west virginian who is also happy, when it comes to our state, i have seen two types, those who love the beautiful wilderness, lack of crowds, cheaper prices, and are basically happy being rural or suburban folks that make their own fun or enjoy community festivities(like me), the other type that don't like it here are usually those who are bored very easily and need city life to stimulate them with tons of shops, businesses, and activity areas, in which case i say, then move ya dummy, what are you doing in a state with literally no big cities if you are that bored?!?!XP i am sick and tired of your whining crap when you are adults with freedom to move wherever!!!DX
as for the coal industry dying out, it sucks that the money made from that is leaving and you didn't need a higher education for it, but the health risks and environmental destruction isn't worth it, we need to learn to create another industry, just like we adapt and make our own fun activities at home(or at least buy the sulfur scrubbers to make the coal better for the environment than it is now for a compromise):) i am betting that when the high internet speeds spread out to the most rural of areas in the world, and more online jobs posted, people will be dying to come somewhere like where we live to get away from all the crowds and high pricesXD
the only really objectively unfortunate thing everyone can agree on in the state is the addiction issues plaguing so many people in the state, i wish i could take a wand and cure all the addiction issues in the world:)

I am originally from a small farm town just on the southern border of Ithaca New York, the town known as Danby New York. Ithaca is the home of Cornell University and Ithaca College, for those who don't know, BUT I moved to Winston Salem, North Carolina for 4 years. The crazy thing is when I told people down south that I was from "Upstate New York", they all wanted to know "What part of the city are you from?"!!! I guess that everybody in the south just assumes that ALL of the state of New York is "city" and most people would look at me confused when I replied to their question ("What part of the city are you from?") with "I am from the country part!"!!! They just couldn't understand that Danby, is a small farming community much like the hamlet of Danbury, North Carolina or King, North Carolina!! In fact Danby is so small there are NO traffic lights and the only "main buildings" in the town of Danby is a volunteer fire station, a town hall, a church, and a small two bay garage highway department, which sits off the main road by a quarter of a mile!! The only gas station in Danby burned to the ground about 30 years ago, and short of that the only school was an elementary school that got converted to a hotel, and the town store, that when I was back home, was an empty 800 square foot building, next door to the fire station!!
It truly is one of those towns that "if you blink you will miss it" and you really don't know when you are "in town" unless you realize the posted speed limit is 40 miles per hour" for the 5 minutes or so it takes to drive through it!! Danby isn't on most maps, kind of like a couple other times I have lived in here in New York as well, like the town of Candor New York or Catatonk which is where I live now!! You won't find any of these small towns on most maps!!! And one other town I spent nearly twenty years of my life in was a town of Willseyville New York, which is another town you'll never find on a map anywhere!!

*_Revelation 17.12 “The ten horns which you saw are ten kings who have received no kingdom as yet, but they receive authority for one hour as kings with the beast. 13 These are of one mind, and they will give their power and authority to the beast. 14 These will make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, for He is Lord of lords and King of kings; and those who are with Him are called, chosen, and faithful.”_*

Being from a rather middle class town in Connecticut I recall vacationing in Florida this past summer in Miami. Me and my friend would strike up great conversations with people and then when they asked where we were from and we said “Connecticut” the whole mood of the conversation changed. They acted as if we must be some rich snobs and we were so confused because we were anything but rich😂 I guess that’s just what people think of Connecticut

And I agree!! The majority of people I’ve met that haven’t been to ct immediately assumed we all come from old money, meanwhile besides Fairfield, Darien, Greenwich, etc, we just have good pizza and farmland, and weirdly tiny amusement parks😅😂

@@julialeslie 203 myself as well. I come from the most middle class town there is. It’s got alittle bit of everything. Alittle rural area , a small downtown, and then the rest is a mixture of generic suburban neighborhoods that fluctuate in quality depending on money/age. I guess it makes sense though. Certain states are defined by there most recognizable traits, cities , towns. Even if those towns and cities don’t necessarily represent the whole of the state. If you told someone you were from New York they would most likely assume Long Island New York or one of the Burroughs , the last thing they would expect is you being from the whole other part of New York which is basically farmland on top of farmland.

    Me: *CHEESE*
Nick: Drink a lot of booze!
    Me: ...that too, I guess
People born in Wisconsin are baptized by getting slapped by a slice of cheese. True story. But I guess drinking checks out, my dad was a drinker and it rubbed off on me. Also 3:21 I didn't know it was "nasty" to look up a massage...if the people of NJ, NY, and CA want a massage as a way to calm down their nerves, then by all means they should get one! You shouldn't be judged for wanting to eliminate stress

I laughed at Why is North Carolina so cheap. Moved there from expensive New York with the promise of cheaper, more affordable living. It was not the case. My standard of living dropped significantly (though my job was actually a promotion there). Moved back to New York and can live more affordably. I know, things are expensive here, and taxes, but they get you down there in a thousand little ways.

I was in Maine during the 2019 blizzard. TONS of snow came down on that Sunday...and school was on a 2hr delay Monday. Unreal. Here in this part of OH a little rain or inch of snow cancels school.

Here in SW MO, when I went to school(60s-70s), it was hardly ever canceled due to snow. If you couldn't make it, it didn't get counted against you. We lived 5 blocks from the school, & walked) Now, if there is a few inches, it's called off. Especially if there is a slight chance of ice.

I grew up 20 miles off lake Erie in Pennsylvania. Our district left it to the bus drivers, if they didn't think they could get in and out of a place, it was an excused absence.
We got credit from the state for a full day if a certain percentage of students were there a certain amount of time.
Drove out of a warehouse north of Fort Wayne for a few years. Cold out? Cancel. Dusting of snow? Cancel.

Some states do have paid maternity leave, and California is one of them. 10 weeks of disability plus 8 weeks of family leave (18 total) for mothers, and then fathers can take 8 weeks. 60-70% pay during those weeks off.
