"I've never lied to my parents." Um...yes you have. Remember the cleansing ritual that occurs every 7 years where you unload your karmic backpack and relieve yourself of your sins? I remember Dharma said she lied over several things, like going lesbian, to make her mother happy. :/ The inconsistencies in this show...I wonder if the writers even keep tabs of what they write.
You're allowed your opinions, Bro, and I'm glad we agree on something, but you have to be fair about the last one, too: Fishing is not "murder". People do it to live; have for centuries, and it has been used as a bonding experience in many tribes all over the world. Her deal about birth reenactment and being naked wherever isn't socially acceptable, but people leave her be/ don;t attack her character. Maybe it was due to her Mom-in-law stress, but all things considered, she was just out of line.
A lot of the time, Dharma's parents are worse than Greg's. But... there are times when DHARMA IS worse than her parents. Greg's a rich blue-blood, silver-spoon fed Harvard collegiate. He knows the world better. But you'd think she'd at least know HER OWN PARENTS better than Greg. Abby's nuts over her mother-in-law coming over... she wishes she could ban HER. @Dschangermaen I dunno, I like her too. She gets extreme in her opinions many times, and she's not always all that accepting, but if anyone is to get extreme in their opinions and not be too accepting of others, I'd want it to be opinions like hers. Anyway she's got her problems, but I still love her.

Lured you into a world of credit cards and lamb chops.......lol. Hmmmm....Mr. Gibson himself directed this episode. I always enjoy episodes directed by the actual actors more. than by other directors. Makes it a more dynamic performance -- better character insights. This is a GREAT episode!
Also, i don't care HOW strong you are in your beliefs, once their marriage is strong, you DO NOT , even jokingly, tell someone to consider leaving their SPOUSE! And DHARMA... frankly, I was a bit shocked @ her behavior! She'll insist Greg give up their plane tickets to folks they don;t know, but when he wants to do something with his Dad for HIMSELF, she won't stand up for him/tapes him in bed? Especially considering she HERSELF has NO PROBLEM fishing, this was a very poor mark on her character
As for Abby, she has extreme opinions, and she goes to extreme measures against people who disagree, but you have to see that to her, banning someone from the house isn't as bad as hurting and killing innocent creatures, as she would say, for sport. She's acting from compassion, really. Sure, she may be going a bit too far, but I think anyone has a few things they find it hard to compromise on at all, it's just that hers - hurting animals - is not one most people identify with to that extent.
Finally, I agree that Abby is being a bit selfish when it comes to how she's handling Larry's mother, but to be fair, Larry wasn't being very nice to her either (although it's obviously he means well), and from what we've heard in past episodes, Larry's mother never has been friendly to her. Like I said, I still agree she's being a bit selfish, especially at the end of the episode, but I wouldn't say it's so bad that she can't be forgiven for it. To me, anyhow.
Well, I'd say that doesn't really affect whether someone's behavior is selfish or not. A person's way of life may be a selfish way of life. Mind you, that's not the way I feel about Abby - the whole point of my comments, of course, was to defend her.

I don't agree with everyone being so hard on Dharma and her parents in this episode. Sure, they're not always doing everything right, but you have to see things in context. For instance, when Dharma binds Greg to the bed, that doesn't mean as much as when an average person binds someone to the bed. For an average person, it would mean they were excessively obsessed with the other person not going somewhere, for Dharma it's milder, and she wants to avoid a problem. I'm glad Greg understands that.
Yeah they fucked this up. in an earlier season they already mentioned that he and his father don't go on an annual fishing trip, that "the fishing trip" was made up.
Well, obviously, murder as it is commonly defined does not cover fishing. I also agree that she was out of line. But I do think that even someone who may in principle appreciate that cultures differ and defend their rights to have their own way of life, might go against that very principle where it clashes with something else that they believe in even more strongly (opposition to suffering; rights for creatures to live, etc., in this case). Sometimes you have to weigh things against each other.
No one has the right to control other people or push their will on them. In the real world, they would be nerve wracking. They are characters who think the world runs around them. Many people are like that, which is why it is so difficult to get along with others. Dharma's character is horrible.
Didn't Dharma go fishing with Ed earlier in the series? Abby had no problem with that...
These inconsistencies is why I got frustrated with season 5. Plus I missed Jane.

I don't agree too much with your other message, but I do agree with this one.
This episode makes no sense at all. She knows that her daughter and son in law are meat eaters so why is she getting bent out of shape about fishing?!
