    It has been joyous watching you paint every leaf, stick, rock blade of grass, my my you're amazing! Your ability to make your comments useful and informative; with patience I will paint a tree.

    I absolutely love your videos. I was taught to not paint in that much detail and it frustrated me because that is how I saw the world. I gave up landscapes and began painting still life and wildlife. You have inspired me to give landscapes another try. Thanks for breaking an old paradigm! I was hoping to see you demonstrate one of your wonderful cityscapes. Thanks! Keep up the good work.

    Thanks Michael. This is exactly the type of 'how to' I've been looking for, for painting clouds! I could watch you painting, all day.

      I too like Michael's work, however this is not really a "how to" video. A how to would get into clouds shapes, color palette, brushes and all that. Not a criticism, just an observation.

      I understand your viewpoint Mr. Gent.
      I believe a careful student, following every video Michael has made, or will make, will not need a traditional style "How To".
      Many of those other instructors have a pomposity I find unbearable. Not so with M.J. Smith.

    When watching the previous tutorial, whilst using W/S Griffin Alkyds, your voice was tense... LOL. In this video it was obvious what a pleasure you were having with traditional oil.
    Just maybe people need to wait a tick longer to get their paintings if it is the difference between you enjoying the work...or you just working. Cheers! Thou art an inspiration to so many people.

    May I suggest Copal Painting Medium by Grumbacher, it cuts the drying time drastically, and flows very well! Excellent for Glazing as well! Beautiful work!

    Michael; I too am a lazy man when it comes to brush cleaning. I also have done a bit of diesel mechanic work in my day... How does this tie together? A nice tub of cream lanolin hand cleaner ( I use Go-Jo lemon scent) for leaving your used oil brushes in until you can get around to working the pigments out. Lanolin is nice on the brush fibers AND the cleaner washes out with water! Smooth, speedy and inexpensive brush care. Oh... it is good at getting paint off your hands too.

    add a few drops of siccative to ur liquin or turps and your paint will dry a lot quicker,then u can carry on using surperier oil paints.

    I'm new at this. So you block with acrylic and paint with oils? Is this how you normally work? Love your work by the way and attention to detail.

  • @bradjeter2797
    @bradjeter2797 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Silly question. Is there a reason, other than personal preference, that you want to make sure all of the acrylic is covered with oil? I've started using acrylics for blocking in and didn't know if I needed to make sure it was all covered completely. Awesome sky work, as usual!

    ya lo dije, me gusta tu técnica. Una pregunta sobre que tabla pones la pintura y si esta sellada, pregunto porque yo ocupo de papel y es mucho el gasto y me gusta dejar sobre la mesa, en la mano la paleta me cansa. Genio hermoso espero me conteste Bendiciones

  • @robhov188

    In the beginning when painting the lower left sky, you were talking about the strong blue. Was that pthalo blue? Thanks.

    • @robhov188
      @robhov188 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. You use cerulean quite a bit. To me it looks similar to a lighter pthalo blue and natural for sky color.
