What part of the country? I had a big owl sitting on my window ledge here in San Francisco ages ago. Was able to film it with a pocket Canon Elph, which had an 8x optical zoom and surprising IBIS, from the ground up to the third floor, then sneak in and film it from the inside of the window. I put it up on youtube a long time ago.
