I have a fly that I can guarantee will outfish that pattern. It's a shad pattern recipe that has won a particular fly angler many tourneys and is a recipe I was told to not to share on forums. Maybe one day I will see you out on Castaic and give you one to try out.

Awesome! Yes i tie it directly to the line. But I use leadcore line to get my flies down deep. Leadcore is a weighted line You can find information about leadcore and how it works online pretty easily!

Hey Joe, What day were you out there? I was out there this past Wednesday trolling the yak fly for hours at 20-35 feet but only caught a bunch of minis none bigger than a pound. I'm basically following the same method you're using. Why can't I catch the big ones or just one would be nice. What could I be doing wrong?
This was from July 4th weeekend. They were deeper up to 50feet. Check that depth with your fish finder!

I use leadcore line! A lot of great info you can find online on how leadcore line! It’s a weighted line
