I actually found the whole DID youtuber community because I was watching a lot of clips of Crazy Jane and "the algorithm" suggested a video of an interview with someone with DID and that video suggested one of DissociaDID's videos and now here I am!
Like many others, I'm not thrilled about her being called "Crazy Jane". However, it's worth pointing out that that's her "superhero name" from the comic books, and in the TV show, she's almost never actually called "Crazy Jane". It's said a couple of times, but she's usually just called "Jane". She's also arguably the most well-adjusted and least "crazy" character, she starts the show with a lot more self-acceptance of her condition than anyone else. It's overall a _really_ good show that explores themes of mental illness and trauma better than any other I've seen. I highly recommend it.

I've been watching Doom Patrol and loving it but wasn't sure how Jane and her system, especially some of the more chaotic alters and trauma allusions, would read to someone with first hand experience and direct personal investment in DID representation. From my position (as an outside observer with some base knowledge from following you and a few other systems on youtube), it's easy enough to see where the line between "sci" and "fi" is and where things are heightened because it's just a very heightened show, but (like with Split) it's hard to know if that line will be clear enough for some less informed people not to get the wrong idea, and whether the portrayal is good enough for someone who actually knows what it's like to be on board with it. Obviously at a certain point it's subjective (because art) and people are going to have different takeaways, and multiple perspectives can be valid, but I'm grateful that you shared yours, and that you took the potential risk of watching the show in the first place so you could share your perspective on it. Trauma is a common thread in superhero type stories in general, as well as obviously stories involving characters with trauma based disorders, so I can only imagine it can be a bit of a trigger mine field, and there might be a thin line between relatable and too close to home sometimes.

we recently started watching Doom Patrol and we very quickly got a whole subsystem of Crazy Jane and some of her alters. and their inner world is the Underground. we won't share more than that for their privacy but we remembered that you made this video and we watched it back then and wanted to come back to this video. we love how they are just accepted like it's normal to have a system. and we like that they were able to verbalize that they don't control each other and they can't just switch on command. you've also verbalized a lot of things that we also feel about the show. we've never read the comics but we really want to now...

Just from my interactions with TH-camrs living with DID, I thought the show was pretty accurate. Like you said, it’s definitely dramatized because of the superhero aspect, but overall they did a good job.

I've been trying to find reviews about characters with DID by people with DID. I still haven't found any about the protagonist of "Legion". Now there's also "Moon Knight" and apparently they're trying to do a respectful approach by depicting some actual DID characteristics, but mixed up with a more fantasy interpretation of it.

I have fibromyalgia and while is in my upper body i find mornings to be ... challenging too. I started a type of meditation in the morning to start fresh without the expectations and pain of the day. Seems to help when i do it. If i don't i feel very calm. Much love!

I have finally got my own apartment. Which I never thought I would get being disabled physically and mentally ill. It has been a rollercoaster ride of ups and downs but we get to move away from ab*sive parents and tox*c living situation. I have begun suspecting there are parts in me. Hopefully us being safe will help to figure out what the h*ll is going on. Stay safe you guys. 😚

We really related to their story with Kay, our "original" is also locked away like Kay was st the start of the show. We all work to protect her. Its amazing seeing representation we really relate to :)

Wikipedia: her name Crazy Jane is derived from several poems by Yeats as well as the eponymous painting by Richard Dadd. Sounds very intriguing! You are super smart and you can do anything. She didn't speak but I know she split from another alter when something awful happened and she carried that memory so the alter she split from could continue her role in the system. Of course that is the short version of the story. Be patient with your new (to you) alter. Chances are someone inside knows her. Sorry I talk alot.

I’m not diagnosed with DID, but my therapist and I are working hard to understand my alters and why I have them.. in the meantime, I’ve also been co-con with ???? someone lately, so I feel your struggle. I hope you can meet and understand one another soon!
The oddest thing about Doom Patrol to me is that Victor Stone aka Cyborg is a member considering he has NEVER been part of that team before. The only connection Cyborg has ever had to Doom Patrol is that Cliff Steele's cybernetics basically served as a prototype for the cybernetics that Victor Stone would later receive. In case you don't know who Cliff is, he's better known as Robotman but he's not actually a robot, he has a human brain. Anyway... Victor Stone technically shouldn't even exist yet at the time this series is taking place. How can he be a member of the Doom Patrol in the 70's and still be a teenager more than 20 years later?
