RIP *Shane Scott* (tenor, on our left). He passed away from ALS just a few days ago. 😢🛐🎶💈 For those who don't know, while this song and performance was of course serious, “Lunch Break" was most known as a _comedy_ quartet, doing excellent renditions of popular songs with parody lyrics.
I Have this saved in my favorites on you tube. Watched it at least 100 times over the years. The crowd can't wait to explode in applause cause its that's damn good. Best version I've ever heard.
Me too. I keep returning to it. It's got such heart and I well up every time. It's funny that the audience wasn't into hearing it initially and it's not the best recording: it's got mic squeal in it, a bum note but it's the version I prefer hearing above all others. It makes feel humble and good.
*Braindead Bogan:* These guys don't produce NEARLY the "goose bumps" that these guys do (at least to me - I absolutely LOVE the last chord!!): th-cam.com/video/Ev-7_cxxjMg/w-d-xo.html
Ditto. And smiles too, I keep hitting the progress line back so I can hear certain passages over and over, most notably that penultimate swipe, unbelievable tone and harmonies.
0:14 that part on say does that star spangled that part was the greatest of all you brought your voice up high where the flag still waves just LOVE it how you brought it up
This is the absolute best version of our national anthem ever performed. This makes me want to cry, sing, and run through a brick wall for this country. This version certainly inspires hope for this once great nation.
Wow so awesome. The crowd was going so wild you couldn't even hear the last note! I clicked on the video hoping they would give their own comedic spin to the National Anthem but I am just happy hearing the song being sung in barberbshop, personally haven't heard it done like that before
Yes, the cheering before the last note completed could be considered rude, just think; so many random folks felt a surge of patriotic feeling, that they couldn't help themselves. That's how I like to think of it:)
"That seventh chord was so dope!" "It was most certainly the bomb, yo, dawg!" "It's like barber-shizzle!" "Whadda you think, Rog?" "What's happenin'?!" th-cam.com/video/MdTS6-fbNH0/w-d-xo.html at 5:21
I thought it was the guy on the right? Look at is mimic. You see him concentrate in it. Anyhow.. its not my national anthem, but man this is great to hear and watch.
Bono is the name No, I think he's meant to be joking. If you listen at that point, some one guy in the audience shouts a "Woo!" whose pitch was actually pretty close to the seventh!
I can honestly say that I have NEVER in my life ever heard a version of this beautiful song as good as this one. This was astounding! Thank you so much for posting this and please never stop!
This version and the one performed by the Gaither Vocals are my two favorites. My favorite instrumental version is performed my a trombone quartet from the US Army.
Same arrangement we sung for the Florida Marlins back in 92 (or 93... something like that). However, we didn't do it this amount of justice. I bow down now.
Memories. I got to sing the National Anthem with my Barbershop Chorus (when I lived in Florida) for the opening Marlins game. It was an awesome experience.
th-cam.com/video/pivnF4Q2OyE/w-d-xo.html The part that ALWAYS gets me is the baritone note (silver haired gentleman) on the word "Wave" (from the phrase 'Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave?!' at the end).
you're correct, it was a straight G major chord, but the guy did 'whoop' the seventh, which is a F. None of the four in the quartet sang the F but the audience member happened to add the seventh. Good stuff, audience member :D
The slide up to the penultimate chord has the potential to create wormholes in spacetime. As you Yanks would (perhaps stereotypically, but I think appropriately) say - DAYMN.
LUNCH BREAK!!! Thanks for an awesome show this spring in Algona!!! You gentlemen are bitchin in the best way possible! God bless America and God bless barbershop!
Excellent, very well done. From the other groups that I have heard sing this arrangement, I really thought the chord at 1:41 on "the" (of the brave) before the gliss was supposed to be a Gsus to a G7, not a GMaj to a G7. The suspended chord before the resolution keeps the tension going until the end. Oh well, minor thing; still a great group, great ring.
This is the most consistently moving arrangement that I've ever heard
I first heard this arrangement with Gas House Gang.
Man, when that big guy sings "O say does that Star Spangled Banner"--chills
Somehow, guys that big are always the tenor
If you listen REALLLLLLLLY carefully...you can actually hear the last chord!!!
I hope the guy on the left doesn't try to steal my dinosaur embryos.
+Franz Liszt - Looks to me like the portly gentleman on the left was sing lead....not bass!
That reference just made my life
+rotunda57 you're all wrong XD That "portly gentleman", nice way of putting it by the way, is Shane and he sings tenor.
Damn it Dennis!
Franz Liszt lmao

Favorite barbershop quartet. Ever.
+Eli Evans Mine too! They are vocal AND comedy geniuses!!
I am speechless at the pure and perfect harmony.
And the crisp, clear unison!
I love how everyone started cheering when the suspended fourth resolved down to the third. haha
that shi do be hella moving tho
IKRRR
I get cold chills at the ending every time I watch this video.

You should check out Acoustix. They did the star spangled banner at a Mavericks game a while back
@@DefconNytemare ok, I will for sure. Do you cringe every time someone starts singing it? Haha. You never know what you're going to get.
@@RH-ib7bg not really
Jim Clancy is a beast for writing this arrangement.
Well sung, well sung. A great arrangement sung by some awesome guys!
I've watched this video over 25 times.
Goosebumps. Every single time.

@@residentevil5pwner lol...literally. From a poem about the Battle of Baltimore against the British in 1812.
Yeah and it’s reallly hard to sing
It was y'alls bar song that we got the melody from, so thank you!
This was the sound of TRUE professionalism at work. God bless America!!!
I CAN'T HEAR THE DAMN LAST CHORD!!! THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE THE BEST ONE, DAMN IT!!!
*squeezemyparticiple:* If want to hear a FANTASTIC "last chord", listen to these guys: th-cam.com/video/Ev-7_cxxjMg/w-d-xo.html

Would of loved to hear the ending.. But that applause was much deserved!

I got Goosebumbs....that was really amazing...and the crowd loved it too. Hats off to them!
FANTASTIC. God Bless you All..
WOW!! Newman sings quartet and does postal work for the U.S.... wow... really is a patriot.
Hola! It's me, Cristena Dylan, Molly Springs Middle School Principal. The best performance is all I ever wanted.
I'm Canadian, and this is my favorite version of any national anthem.
same
These guys are so damn good, this is the national anthem rendition we need at the Super Bowl !!
I’ve heard other groups do this arrangement but I think this ones the best
Awesome.
Watching this in 2023. Good lord Lunchbreak, you guys are good.
Wow, at 1:13, I got chills. AMAZING tenor. Beautiful harmony. Great job!
Great way to feature our style of music guys! Awesome singing!
Man, did this ever knock my socks off!
This is the best performance of the Star-Spangled Banner in my opinion, I wish something like this can happen again.
Interesting rendition. Terrific harmony!

That's my boy with that full voice tenor! WTG Shane and Lunch Break!!!
No lip sinking on that performance! Absolutely fantastic!
Damn that's good! Thank you!!!!
Epic!
Even with the stupid crowd cheering while they sing, they still did this arrangement as well as Gas House Gang. They did it great credit, well done.
Bill Stein I’d recommend staying away from Chicago Blackhawks’ games.
*Bill Stein:* Take a listen to THESE guys: th-cam.com/video/Ev-7_cxxjMg/w-d-xo.html
THISSSS is how you perform the National Anthem...after hearing this song hundreds of times, the crowd reaction tells it all... kudos 💯

Made me tear up! So good....

"That seventh chord was so dope!"

Finally a lunch break song where the tenor can flourish.
Well, that was a different arrangement!
Well done, gents!
someone sang the seventh note in the crowd at 1:25

You're right! It sounds like a whoop but is just in tune at the right time.

1:22 Ahh..... proof, if ever was needed, that everyone loves a good sus 4 chord
This is exactly what we need to put infront of large audiences. Great job.
This is my favorite rendition of the Anthem.
I hate how announcers will randomly put "The" before quartet names. They're just "Lunch Break".
I know what the you means! The announcers always inserting the definite articles where the ever they the damn well please!
