    I learned so much from this thanks Nick. I've taught myself production for 9 months now, and haven't really spent any substantial time tweaking low-end like this. I've tried all of the techniques on the current track I'm working on, and WOW, my mix sounds so much louder and punchier! it actually hits just about as hard as the reference track I'm using. My love of this craft just went up a notch or two based on this! Great content thank you.

    Nice tutorial!
    I did remixing for several large labels and was also an artist on them in various capacities. I like my bass with a low cut at 50hz and my kick at 40hz before I do anything else like parralel compression and or side chaining. This lets the bass sit on top of the kick from the get go, anything lower than about 35 Hz robs energy of your track and will mask other elements, I always have my lowest element rolled off below 40Hz and then when mastering have the lows rolled off at 35Hz just for safety sake.

    Great video. Thanks a lot. Bass layering was completely new to me, as well as using the m/s on the master (if I got that right). I usually use m/s-eq on tracks, but obviosly this seems to be more effective and time/cpu-saving.
    I'm pretty new in producing and ableton, so what about a little tutorial about multiband side-chaining and how to set up a rack like he did on our own?
    Another question, what about you analyzing and rating tracks, you're viewers send you? Maybe in a different series of videos, where you pick out some examples for good and Bad mixing and mastering and show us how to make it better and where the mistakes are? I think this would be a good way to demonstrate how to avoid common mistakes, you don't even think about anymore.
    Have a nice day folks. Big thx for your channel, i've learned a lot here.

      Hey. I am just happy people with such knowledge share it and inspire us to make music. :) But if I am to choose something I don't know a lot of, it will probably be creating the atmosphere and the background sounds and effects. I can choose my main sounds, but the mix sounds a bit simple and I am not sure how to make it sound more complex and interesting.

    Awesome video! Question: Why remove the lowest fundamental of mid range if you’re going to high pass that part out anyway?

    • @CombatCatYT
      @CombatCatYT ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Even though the chance is minor, it still makes a difference in the way the distortion works. Distortion usually changes for me based on if I remove the fundamental or not.

    was just in the studio with a great producer and he told me for sidchaine always use the mix to 100 in kickstart 2 but i feel u want a bit of base to mix with the kick.... maybe to 90 how do u guys feel

    • @EDMTips
      @EDMTips  ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on the kick, the bass, and the effect you’re going for

  • @chocochubby541
    @chocochubby541 ปีที่แล้ว

    Is the sub bass frequencies from 0-80hz?

  • @jedsithor
    @jedsithor ปีที่แล้ว

    Is it worth picking a kick that doesn't have the same fundamental frequency as the sub? Or does sidechaining make that not really matter?

    • @robertmoog3
      @robertmoog3 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Always try to pick a sub bass and kick that have different fundamental frequencies.
      You can make anything "work," but in the case of overlapping frequencies, you're just going to be peeling back unavoidable masking as opposed to avoiding masking completely
      Also, unless your bassline is a single note repeat, you're going to find that each note has a different perceived loudness based on how much it is or isn't being masked by the kick.
      You can address all of these issues with the right FX to some degree, but your better bet will always be to pick non-conflicting elements from the start of a project

      This could defintely apply to almost any genre. Using a second distorted layer on top of your clean 808 would work nicely together.

    why you guys always Layer your bassline sound ? i mean is it really that necessary ? maybe on this genre only i guess...very specific method,not helpfull for my genre of choice.i apply some of these methods already,but this guy has no idea of phase alignment,its not only "we use sidechain and its ready" because this applies only for that specific baseline,as where in different midi notes you need to avoid phase cancellation which is a completely different part which i didnt see anywhere being mentioned...
