Splinter gets hurt in the process unable to help after thr initial one is rescued. This would also allow you to get different parts of the story as you check back in with splinter and he fills in various parts of the lore that you found throughout the city and from other places and events
An open world TMNT game sounds dope especially if they use combat mechanics from Ghost of Tsunami with the turtles. What is cannon and worth exploring is the fact that Sherdder/Oroku Saki and Splinter/Hamato Yoshi’s Pet are from warring samurai clans in japan. Yoshi ends up killing Oroku Nagi Shredder’s brother. Saki kills Yoshi in revenge and his pet Splinter who mastered all Yoshi’s moves attacked Saki and fled to the sewers....and you know the rest

In the comic book, the reason Ralph is so much of a loner is because he was separated from them for a major part of his life, so he wasn’t raised a ninja or knew he had brothers - it’s why he’s a brawler, he wasn’t trained in ninjitsu for as long as the others.
Around 13:00 another idea to add on to the training with different styles, the fighting styles can also have different damage outputs, stat bonuses and penalties, and different throwables/non-lethals with different effects like smoke bombs, flash bombs, etc.
Being Splinter would be dope. Especially if he was the first person you find, and then playing as him is a flashback to the storyline of Splinter vs Haruko Saki.
Also as a TMNT-Head that Super Shredder should definitely make an appearance. Like for human Shredder being the final boss of "Part I" and with cut scenes come to find out he still alive with the help of Krang and the turtles gotta fight him as the true final boss. Purple Dragons, Karai, Baxter Stockman, Bebop and Rocksteady can all act as lead-ins and mini bosses.
With the Dexter’s open world crossover stuff, Nickelodeon did something similar with The Fairly Oddparents: Channel Chasers movie. It went through the different TV channels and showed their popular shows lol
A bit of a side note: yall should check out the Usagi Yojimbo! Graphic novels. It looks cartoonish but gets grimy af. Folks actually get beheaded, Usagi be cuttin folks up, he fights wizards and even spirits.

I like the idea of it being like GTA 5 where you can, and have to sometimes, switch between turtles during the story mode allowing for completely different types of missions and playstyles. Also there would 100% have to be CO-OP like you guys mentioned. Maybe even an online mode where you can play heroes vs. Villains. The turtles, splinter, Casey, and some of their allies as playable heroes and Shredder, Bebop and Rocksteady, etc. as playable villians.

So The closest game that matches up what you guys were talking about will probably have to be mutant nightmare 3 for the gamecube/ps2. 4 player co op, its sandbox instead of open world but it feels like open world. You guys should do a playthrough its pretty fun.
