    I have that crankset on my old Trek I converted to SS. Piece of junk BB fell apart and one of the hex bolts heads stripped out when I went to remove the left crank arm to replace the BB. I stuck with the stock BB on my Hydro and converted an old 3x crank to 1x. Cheap and easy. I look forward to seeing how those brakes work out.

    I think the bike looks so awesome with the custom parts. Jessica bar, Epicson fork, DNM rear susp, IXF crank, Rockbros pedals, Afterpartz breaks. Loved it! And i think the price is fine for what you get. I bet you could make a business out of it.

    Snail make some surprisingly decent parts. I have a set of their floating rotors and I haven't had a problem with those despite running them for a few months on regular descents. Though before buying aftermarket parts online I usually do a quick search to see how other people fare with the parts I want before diving in the deep end. Aside from the drivetrain, nearly everything on my bike is an online aftermarket purchase and so far so good. Keep it up, Kev!

    I have a pair of those rockbros pedals. They are excellent. Really high quality. They use a heavy grease in them which makes them spin a little slower at first, after a little bit of use they loosen up and will spin like any other pedal.

    Sorry for your loss. Thank you for the video. Real good information in this on value parts . Also is common with high end bikes and low bottom brackets to get pedal strikes. I know I can with my Nomad even with the flip chip on high.

    I was going to build a similar model Hyper until I saw that pivot point through the middle of the seat tube. Those pivot points are going to wear out fast on the trails like the Mongooses I built up. I had a blast building them up, especially when bike shops advised me not to do it. Sorry about your loss.

    Really like how this one turned out. I'm a real fan of my rock Bros winter pants. I also tried a snail oval chain ring or of pure curiosity. It felt a bit weird. Especially on the climbs. Went back to my 38t race face after a couple weeks.

  • @palmgeek
    @palmgeek 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Nice choice of upgrades. My budget has changed since I bought my 2010 Stumpy FSR so I chose the NX setup with the snail chainring and a Sunrace 11-46 cassette. It's worth noting that the snail chainring ($8 on wish.com) is perfect for conversion from a 3x due to the addition of stand-offs that move the middle ring slightly toward the granny gear position. Mine works well with that familiar positive SRAM feel.

  • @atkracing

  • @Ultimaniacx4
    @Ultimaniacx4 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Fooker nylon composite pedals are also a good alternative. They're basically off-brand Chesters. Near identical design and half the price. Mine have lasted for a couple hundred miles so far and survived a some nasty pedal strikes and the only maintenance I've had to do on them is to tighten the gripping pins once.

  • @allenjanes5976
    @allenjanes5976 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Very nice. Only a pound heavier than my spesh camber. Regarding your peddle strikes, you might be able to ramp up your suspension a tad and maybe go with a 165 mm crank. That should cut strikes way down. However, in it's present form, I would definitely race it cross country for you. So sorry to hear about your mother.

      @thiosemicarbizidebenzoylal2921 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why would you want something more expensive with a frame like this for 155 dollars? If you know bikes then with a Slackerizer headset and a 200mm DNM rear shock this bike is a serious XC TRAIL BIKE for about 800 bucks. Hyper is giving the deal of a lifetime with this frameset alone. In 2019 mountain biking this frame is spot on. Downhill bikes will never be sold at Walmart. Kevs build is off the charts good, and there is NOTHING comparable at this price.

    I have the same crank-set on my first bike that I rebuilt (got it at Costco)... those things are bulletproof. Mind you this bike has been converted to a gravel bike with drop-bars, so it doesn't see trails as much as the other ones.
    I had them on the bike for more than a year and they work great :).

    Great build when you see questions on bikes on gmbn they always say go for a good frame components are not the main choice. Drive train will wear out shock are easy up grades. But you can't up grade a frame what you have done is follow there lead but rather than do it over a few years you have done it in months.

    I do own the same crankset, it's amazingly sturdy. Been beating it around for few months by now and it's still going strong. And I'm no lightweight by any means. I'm way over 100kg at the moment and they did survive all the jumps and drops I did without any sign of bending and stuff. The bottom bracket is also keeping up, no squeaking nothing, and it's really muddy and rainy up here in Europe.

    Hey @KevCentral! I don't know if you remember, but I gave you an email before asking about the Uding fork's performance. It's a Sagmit fork here where I'm from. Well, I ended up buying a different fork which is the one you've installed here (only in a 29er and mine's a stealth black with no remote). I'm not very sensitive when it comes to difference in bike handling, but this one I really felt the difference. Steering is way more responsive and it takes bumps very well. I'm loving it so far!

    Ive used the IXF cranks on a few of my bikes, they are great for the price. take care with the dust covers tho for the bottom bracket as they will wear out, better to go with an actual Shimano one. If your chain ring isn't a narrow wide, id recommend some sort of chain guide if you do any sort of real trail riding.

    Watch out for those cranks, I loved mine and ran them for 2 years, but the one caveat is the tensioning bolt. it's nylon, and a fine thread pitch with a large diameter, reason I bring it up is because If you don't have enough contact between the non drive side spindles and crank you risk shearing that bolt. that being said I'd check the spacers behind the cups and try and run the proper amount to make sure you have all the contact you can, otherwise your riding home with one crank.

    I have this IXF crankset and it's very good. Machining and fit is excellent. Those BBs lasted only one season though, but that's not a problem. Where I live it is very difficult to buy cranks only, without chain rings. So this makes IXF not only very cheap, but also much more sensible buy than full shimano crankset with all the unnecessary accessories.

    Well it looks like you got a little room to play with if you added a slightly longer rear shock which would raise up the bottom bracket

    Check out the Fooker pedals. They are clones of the RaceFace Chesters. But only about $25.

    Mines almost done, just waiting for the Deore drive train to get here and then some warm weather to get out there and ride. Total cost will be 1085.00 which includes the cost of the bike (200.00). Half the fun is the build and you learn a lot by doing it yourself. Sorry to hear about your mom.

      @@donnovicki9771That's a bad sign. I knew it was too good to last. Get your slackerizer and basically you have a Giant Trance or ex 8 for a cheap build. I still cant believe people couldn't see it.

      Congrats on the new bike. Be cautious that upgrades can get expensive quick. Also, check the stage 3 video on this bike. There are upgrades I did in stage 3 that didn’t work out.
