Tax is a major consideration. If you want an income of say 20K a year, compare how that 20K would be taxed if it was from dividends or was from selling shares. You pay a LOT more tax on dividends because the whole 20K counts as income and is taxable (minus tax free portion) but when selling shares, only the gain is taxable (minus tax free portion). Also, dividends are added to your total income and can push you into a higher rate tax band far more easily than capital gains will.

If the dividend stocks are in a ISA. All capital gains and dividends are tax free.

What's the point in dividends when you can get a higher percentage (at the moment) return in interest i.e 5% plus that interest may be compound.

Without commenting on the strategy itself, I don’t think you can automate rebalancing

Wouldn't it be smart to invest into a fund like VUSA, and then sell those shares 20 or so years from now into a high dividend yielding fund? The gains you make from selling would help buy loads more shares from the high dividend yeilding fund right?

    Is invest engine any good?
A lot of people have said they have slow withdrawals

Great for ETFs - if thats what you want. Personally haven't experienced or heard of slow withdrawals, how long are we talking?

      @@TheDividendExperiment I think a week+.
Gonna have to look into it a bit more.
I think it’s easier to find ETF’s on invest engine. Like expense ratios etc.

Agree, great for ETFs, they have to sell your stock and the money has to be in your account before you withdraw it, but providing the money is in your account the withdrawals are very quick. Selling your funds can take up to a day. I have never had a problem getting my funds.

Best way for div income is sell after xd (when in profit) then pile into another before xd. l don't wait for naff all. LOL
Divs every week for me...An ambition could be to get them every day...
