during the live concert....and it take about 2 minutes.....i knew Leonkoro quartet will win the competition...and of course, music is not about winners or loosers....but i knew, i feel it. this ensemble is just perfect to my years...and the cellist is inside, is ONE with the music, answering all the Composer's requests. very jazzy "walkin' bass" and, when possible, ( if i can) rockin'it!! He's the Dionysiac side of that quartet. Perfectly balanced from the clear and Apollinean "violin and viola", lights. What else can i say... strong and stunning experience. thanks a lot Wigmore Hall for sharing alive and isolated in this video. Paolo from Italy

There was a noticeable difference in the skills at the competition, 1st violinist is really strong.

This is a fabulous group willing to go to extremes of dynamics, pacing and timbre to make the odyssey of this piece vivid.

Well, with Beethoven it's business as usual: precise and unpredictable.

nice playing - but I have to rate this quartet as my LEAST favourite of all of 'em... One has to ask oneself as to why Beethoven, after the previous GREAT quartets and in particular the MIRACULOUS numbers 7 and 8 (of the Razumovsky set) , wrote such a relatively BORING piece - and my theory is this: Beethoven felt he needed to write at least one quartet that was playable by most amateur quartets. This contains no gripping or super fast passages, so far as I can tell - the final movement is, one might reluctantly admit, a tiny bit more exciting - and, well, O.K. pretty fast - than the others. However I may not be hearing something (I am a 6th generation student of Beethoven - but of the piano and not the violin, viola or cello). Please feel free to write and tell me if this curious work is, in fact, more interesting than it sounds. Or if anyone else finds this quartet any good (relative to any of his other ones).

I find that this (Easy) piece is a great masterwork. I would say the difficult thing in Quartett playing is the work together. I mean the acustic work. And I find that the Leonkoro Quartett plays this piece in a typical Beethoven way. With a lot of fun and seriousness. This is may opinion and I know that not all people like this interpretation. (PS: my English is not very good:))

Op. 59/3 is every bit as fascinating and mysterious as the other two Rasumovskys. The experimental introduction follows the enigmatic strand of Mozart’s “Dissonant” Quartet in a more daring manner than any other Beethoven quartet. The first movement proper sustains the introductory agenda for its opening bars, thereby blurring the boundaries between slow intro and fast movement. No idea what bores the writer.

Since you asked for an opinion, this is a very fine quartet indeed, among Beethoven's best.
