I vote for a Utah rally. That would be great! You could always do a set staging area like Moab and then do daily rides around the area, makes it easy for attendees to reserve a hotel or something. Or do a set point to point with rooms reserved, or go all out and just plan on some camping. I am in Southwestern Utah, we have amazing riding around here. St. George, Zion, Bryce, Capital Reef area, would be a great rally area. My 450 has less than 1000 miles on it, love the bike. Graduated from a CRF250L. On the 20K review: maintenance, what you consider must have mods, any suspension adjustments, favorite tires, and recommended packs. Thanks for all your great videos!

Any work you do to the motor would be very interesting. I’d like to see a top end rebuild video following the owners manual. I have just under 5000 miles on my 2021 450RL with many of the same mods as you. Thanks for the videos.

Absolutely down for a rally! I'd be riding down from Vancouver, Can., so would have to be at a time of year, weather wise, that would make that ride possible..As to the form of the rally and location, I will defer to you guys and just show up :-). Camping out in the desert would be cool..

Colorado would be easier for us our east or way east.
Group Rides, Sorted from beginner to intermediate to harder stuff for those that want to do that.
And or Next Destination and folks could route themselves to the next location based on their own skill level.
We did one similar years back for the Honda Africa Twin, we met at Iowa and did the bridges of Maddison country deal, was really fun. I may be able to help you find some sponsors as well. Possibly.

A rally sounds amazing. I cannot do it as I am in SE Asia, damn! But if I had to choose it would be a point to point to point ride. Some may want to do their own time trial, some may want the opportunity to ride with great riders, some riders may want to show their skills off. And most will just want to ride. Make it a split road and trail - easy and intermediate. You might get some super motos joining if there's a road version. Imagine the sounds!!

Hi John, great series, and thanks for all of the info.
I have a 2019 450L which I would like to use in the way you do, but it just vibrates too much. People generally say these bikes are smooth, but that's definitely not been my experience. It does have a sweet spot around 60 mph, but that doesn't help much. Do you remember any particular changes you made that improved vibration, or was yours always ok?

You’ve made some changes on your bike from where you thought you had the solution to where your mindset changed. What are some of your regrets in terms of farkles and with that in mind, what are your 5 top farkles that would you get again right off the bat. Seat, vortex and Yoshi are a given but what are the others? Also, I always love your gear reviews. Id love to see a gear evolution video explaining why you got to what you’re wearing now.

What a pity that the daily YT reports have ended. I enjoyed watching your progress over breakfast here in Sydney. You are one of a very select group of YT adv riders who are modest, funny, sincere and entertaining. I ride an EXCF but the make doesn’t matter much, it’s all the other worthwhile content. Re your 20,000 mile report, I’d like to know what the service intervals were as both the CRF and EXCF have silly recommendations for minor and major services . Ie KTM recommends a complete motor pull down at 135 hrs, Honda at 20,000 mls where as many sensible adv 500 riders are getting 500-1000 hrs with no major issues.

I only ride naked bikes on pavement... so my opinion on rally/off-road stuff is kinda irrelevant 😂But more riding on back roads, gravel and scenic stuff is always welcome.
Regarding the review, I'm really interested on how the engine is holding up, wear wise. Next tear-down should be interesting. Safe travels John!

    My Dissertation:
    Around the Lake Rally-
Find a spectacular remote CampSite on a huge lake in the wilderness.
Pack everything in and set-up. Fire-up the grill enjoy frosty beverages and sleep.
Wake-up and enjoy gourmet coffee and then race around the lake or wherever and back to camp.
Fire-up the grill and enjoy frosty beverages.
Race around again in the other direction.
Fire-up the grill and enjoy frosty beverages and sleep.
Wake-up and enjoy gourmet coffee and then go home or stay and do it all again.
Also -a relaxed pace with no brutal technical bike-killing terrain
because not everyone owns a damn Honda.
    My 20,000 mile question:
If you had to ride the bike for at least a couple hours straight every day for the first year and could only choose 2 out of 3 accessories/mods which 2 would you choose?
    1)SeatsConcepts Seat.
    2)Vortex/Pipe.
    3)Recluse AutoClutch.
Because so many people say the bike is virtually unridable long term unless you have all 3 of them.
    The MillionDollar question:
We had no vids for 18 weeks.
We just had vids every 16 hours for 3 weeks.
How many vids does that equal between now and LaborDay???
You got 15 seconds- clocks ticking.

    • @JohnTYoung
      @JohnTYoung  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Math hurts. I’ve got a few vids in the pipeline but am having some technical difficulties with what should be a straight forward mod. I’m sure it’s me.

Things are so screwed up these days that you open yourself to have your socks sued off, dosen't matter if you plan a route, or lead a ride and charge anything somebody falls over it's your responsibility. Also you cannot have any kind of commercial event on BLM land, or NF lands without a permit and I think they demand 4 million in insurance..

No dude, don't say that. Besides, the dual sport community isn't really known for being all that litigious...are they? If you wanna CYA though, just draft up a waiver, set up a sign-up desk, hire a notary for a day, and have everyone that shows up sign it.
