I got this book for myself and loved it. It covers all the fundamental concepts in precalculus mathematics. It was straight and to the point. No fluff but you may have to do additional reading additional problems. I always found that I got lost because I always wanted to know the why and not just memorize matter to get an A. Also you can buy a used version for under 5$ on amazon.

Seofthwa does the book provides the why and the how or just the how?

@@badreddineboukheit9791 Short answer is yes, listen to the video. The book just doesn't have slavish adherence to formalism.

Great book. Some of the more challenging exercises which are usually proofs don't have explanations/answers which makes it frustrating at times for the self-taught. Any suggestions?

go to vastlysuperiormath.com/ and read the new book and get the $47 Gift.
Then join the Crusade and you will understand Simmons book when you get through Tier 4.
i agree that most students need help to understand it.
You also need to learn how to use the modern tool Wolfram Alpha which only came out in 2009. Simmons book was written in 1988.
      Best wishes.

    Sir,
How can I obtain a copy of "The Foundation, High School Math Made Easy"? I am a disabled Veteran who has to spin up quickly on math. These are skills I have not touched for many years. It is with the intent of going onto a degree program in Engineering through the VA's Voc-Rehab.
I have this summer to raise my skills so that with luck and effort I can enter college in the fall at a decent level of math to continue on to the prerequisite needed for entering the Mechanical Engineer program.
My best guess is the first year of junior college will be spent working towards the entry level math skills for University. The prerequisite I must obtain to move on is either MAC 1114 or MAC 1147, so I have my work cut out for me. In high school I never progressed past Algebra.

      Ryan Taylor
      Ryan,
My recommendation is that you first take the Practical Math Foundation Course. It is online and self-paced. With a Coupon it will cost you $147 (Use coupon code HS25). You can learn all about it at www.triadmathinc.com/the-foundation-course/
Then if you have time I recommend you take the next two "fast track" programs. The first is a selection of topics from Tiers 3 and 4, Pre-calculus. And, then take Tier 5, Calculus. The key to your success will be to master the wonderful modern tool, Wolfram Alpha. We begin to teach you this tool in the Tiers 3 and 4 fast track pre-calculus program, and then use it for Calculus in Tier 5.
Pre-calculus and Calculus both are much much easier to learn today
      utilizing this tool.
If you contact me at info@triadmathinc.com, I will be glad to send you more detailed information on this "fast track" program. But, first just take the Practical Math Foundation course.
      Good Luck. Dr. Del

Do you this book would help me prepare for my SATs and is it possible to purchase this book online?

    • @triadmathinc

The SAT is tricky, and this book will help, but is not adequate. In fact the book has more math than you need for the SAT. You can get the book on Amazon through this link. We also have an SAT prep program which includes tips and tricks of the SAT and the math you need to know to score well. You can learn more at: www.homeschoolmathematics.com

Do you think Simmon's Calculus With Analytic Geometry is a good follow up to this book?

    • @CMO59
      @CMO59 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Téssio Fechine No. Dr. Simmon's calculus book is excellent as classical calculus books go. However, all classical calculus books are obsolete today because of the modern tools like Wolfram Alpha. So your best resource is Tier 5 which utilizes Wolfram Alpha. Unfortunately, all current calculus textbooks are classical. In particular, they emphasize the classical "techniques of integration" which are a bunch of ad hoc techniques for finding antiderivatives so one can apply the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus. These techniques are difficult to master, and only work for a small subset of functions whereas a tool like Wolfram Alpha handles all functions. Wolfram Alpha does to classical calculus what the scientific calculator did to slide rules. For a fuller explanation you need to watch my three videos on Calculus at: craighane.com/amv/

I took business calc and switched majors so now I need to take the regular calcs etc.

    • @triadmathinc

This is the best book I know of for Precalc.
However, it really depends on your background and general ability.
Precalc in a Nutshell is not a self study book for many students and you may need the help from a good teacher.
We do offer online training utilizing this book. It is Tier 4 of our six tier program.
You must complete the first three Tiers first, but this will be very quick
and easy IF you already know this material. If you don't then you need
      this material first.
You should study the syllabus for the Tiers to decide what is right for you.
Anyway, if you only have one month you will probably need to already know most of it.
You probably should buy the book and review it and see if you understand
it. If not, then you will probably need more than one month to get ready.
Also, Tier 5 teaches calculus the modern way that is not possible in any textbook. It utilizes Wolfram Alpha as the modern tool to solve calculus and differential equations problems. This makes STEM math much easier than it has been classically. Many of old manual algorithms still being taught are obsolete, yet very difficult to understand and master. But, that's another subject.
      Hope this helps.
      Dr. Del

We do not recommend this book as a stand alone study source. Most students will need input from a tutor or teacher. We do utilize this book in Tiers 3 and 4 of our math programs, but with additional guidance, notes and exercises. You can learn more about our programs at: www.homeschoolmathematics.com If you are a STEM student, check out: www.stemmathmadeeasy.com

im in 10th grade and am in trig right now, my midterm for it is next week so in about 9 days and i have a chapter or 2 i have to learn before that. I really don't know if i want to go into calculas because im struggling in trig and people say that precalculas is just harder trig and that in calculas you need to know trig like the back of your hand . I have an 88% in trig right now and need to keep it above an 80% to be able to go into calculas. So i think even if i failed all my next two or three tests i'd still be above an 80% (Since my teacher makes the final worth less than a normal test), i really don't know what i want to do with my life and as of right now don't think i will be doing any profession that is math intensive. I think im going to take a few years either out of colleeg or highschool to be in the military, But after that i might want to be an engineer or a programmer. So far if i go along with my highschool class plan i will have had math every single semster besides the last semester of my senior year (since i will have done all the math that i can at my school) so do you think i should take calculas and pre calc and if i do should i buy this book if i start to struggle in the classes

    • @triadmathinc
      @triadmathinc  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Dr. Simmons book may make trig easier for you. It should be a good $15 investment. Spend a few hours studying it. Trig is sometimes taught very poorly in some high schools and this might help. I know nothing about your school, of course.
When I teach Trig I use a TI30Xa scientific calculator and then Wolfram Alpha and the SupraComputer.
This makes ALL math much easier to learn.
If you are going to the military I recommend you learn the math we teach in www.WorkforceMath.com No more necessary. Download the free PDF syllabus to see the topics I recommend.
If you are going to college and studying engineering I recommend our six Tier program, www.homeschoolmathcrusade.com you may download the free PDF syllabus there too.
www.12345math.com has a lot of free videos on math for you.
In the meantime, I recommend you read my paper on Magnificent 21st Education - No Debt. You can read it at: www.homeschoolmathcrusade.com/no-debt-education/
