Adjusting brightness is the WORST advice I was ever given actually. Grow tent has alot of knowledge, but not as much as he thinks lol. Think about this, if you start a seed under a stronger light, it'll adjust quickly and there won't be any chance of light burn or stress. What happens when you keep adjusting, theyll say wtf just happened, and you'll see negative effects.

19:27 So I thought about it for a second and here's what I thought. As I understand it the plant "sees" umols/m^2 or light provided by surface area. Let's say light at 100% = 100/area we turn that down to 50% so we have 50/area. But our canopy is only 50% full so our plant is only seeing half of the light provided. What happens in we move that same exact plant in a smaller space but now the plant is using the entire space with the same theoretical light? Looked at from a different angle. What is the target plant PPFD and DLI? What does the light we have provide? If the light provides a maximum of an average 800 µmols/m2/sec with our target a 12 hour 34.5 DLI and our target PPFD healthy growth at end flower is 800 for but we put the light at half maximum power ( 400 µmols/m2/sec ) that provided a 12 hour DLI of 17 and 400 PPFD. Sounds like veg growth intensity to me and resulting in an drastically underperforming plant. Did I get some numbers wrong here or am I overlooking something?
I don't think this is a numbers channel. Frankly, even I'm kind of burnt out by everyone asking the same questions as if one would ask a yoga guru how many seconds one should breath in to aquire the perfect breath. Gt. Thanks so much for the information on lights. You help the new grower more then you know. I appreciate so much .Will never miss one of your shows. PEACE
Yes but it ALL depends on the light your using. So maybe you should explain by wattage. If someone is using some weak ass light and they go by your guide their plants are going to be GARBAGE. So yeah including light wattage would make this a educational video. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK WOOOOOOOOO!
If that's the only light they have, then they would just have to keep the plant small and still use the progressive schedule the same. Otherwise they will just run out of light when the plants bigger
@@WelcometoTheGrowTentthat doesn’t make any sense to me. If it’s a low wattage light they could blast it from the start. They need more par not slowly increase a deficient amount of light. I get most people have decent lights and stress their plants with to much light. I like the info about the leaf shape 👍🏻
What is the reasoning behind light intensity and number of plants? Like how does the presence or absence of tent partners have any effect on light demands of a single plant? Like one small plant in a 2x4 or that same small plant in a 5x5, whether it be all alone or has 3 friends in there with her, how does that effect her individual needs for light intensity?
Great tips here! I’ve watched a lot of videos dealing with lights. This one’s probably the most useful one I have seen about reading plants instead of DLI. A lot of us don’t have PAR meters and even if we do, we usually don’t have any info on what readings that cultivar or pheno likes. That’s why this video is gold

Pro tip! week eight of flower switch the lights back to 18/6 for the finish! You will thank me later!!!! Your girls will have more light to bulk up and your fade will look glorious!!!
I have also heard to unplug light on the last dark cycle and cut them down in the dark. Some say 24-48 hours, but the theory is light diminishes the terps and combs so let it repair over night and snip it at full stores.
Rick Rivera turned me on to your channel. This video was very informative and I didn't mind the promos. You have a good way of presenting your material. Thanks!!!
Damn you. You told me then exactly what I need to know cuz mine are praying up all day everyday. I like I thought it was a good thing. They also pray up right after you give them water. I noticed about 20 or 30 minutes later
Yea I vegfed for 10 weeks 4 plants in 4x4 I definitely ran out of light with a 400 watt in each tent, thank you for explaining the percentages and when to change percent thank you
Thank you sir had to watch it twice then pay attention the first time I guess but I really do appreciate all these helpful hints and skills and your patreon is awesome or discord I mean your merch is awesome be well
I was surprised you didn't talk about DLI and PPFD. Those two helped me greatly dial in the proper distance and intensity based at any amount of time and based off the age of the plant. Great information though thank you!
Most lights have a specified range for the light. Marshydro usually has 18" specified. You will also notice the more powerful lights are designed for use with co2. So to make it simple like he would, beginners have beginner skills, they don't have the nutes, the co2, the ph, etc... as those things are learned the feed is richer and therefor experts can handle more light. Just like the plants we start small and pray upward and as we grow we can handle more. One guy just pours a pitchers worth of tap water on his plant, while the other is adding chlorine remover with aloe, brewing a tea, adding liquid silica, adjusting the PH and watering 5-10% volume of water per volume of soil 1-2 times a day. The sun is shining and co2 is raining from the heavens. Jumping into par and parts per million is on some deep water culture Einstein level. It's kind of like a boat, if you have to ask how much it costs you can't afford it. The details you are looking for are so specific that you should already know them because you are at the highest level of performance. He is keeping it simple and those specifics are of a complexity at a masters level. I hope that helps some so you don't worry to much about the finite details, yes they are important, but most important is the vibe you bring to your grow. If they are happy, you are happy, and the dance goes on and on. You feel what they want and need and your generosity is paid in kind. Don't stress, just take baby steps and you will make accomplishments the likes of What About Bob!
@DPDUCKS photone, lux and ppfd meter are 3 apps i have. It may work on a cheaper phone. Most lights should have the specs of ppfd from distances anyways as a basic guide.

Apparently I was learning guitar solos before watching this because Kevin started talking super slow and almost slurred. I thought I was having a seizure or something. I had the settings on half speed. 🤦🏼♂️
On my third grow and these 3 plants were started under the pinkish lights i use to grow leafy greens for my bearded dragons. Not strong at all and gives a stretch, the oldest is a sativa so i found out that is more normal. But the two 5 week old plants aren't but have the same spacing and i like that. My second grow had very short node spacing, very compact, must have been too juch as they were started in the tent. The spacing of the big girl is airy, few leaves had to be removed and light goes all the way down. All 3 have been fimmed, the 5 week olds just got their last two days ago. I will pay attention to the pray or nay by lights off compared to thevphonetone app.

ive ran side by side with hps and led with the same strain everything the same something i noticed is the growth was about the same the led side had more nodes closer together, the led side wanted more cal/mag, my power bill was lower didnt have to run my ac near as hard in the summer. the best part about led for me is the plants can be seen so well cause the high color index there is no orange color to the plant making it harder to spot issues. con for me is using led in the winter time my basement gets cold if i went full led i think i would have to run a heater or something if the light isn't running 50%+ to keep it 75F in the tent when vegging.

Just watched this one again to refresh the info. Still a great video!
Excellent explanation on how the leaves look during lights on
My new Mars Hydro FC8000 just landed here a couple days ago. It's going to replace the KIND XL K5 1000 i'm currently running in my Gorilla 5X5. Stoked !! Now back to this video.......
Pro tip! week eight of flower switch the lights back to 18/6 for the finish!
Thanks!!!
Thanks!
Full blast in flower ! Adjust height as needed. Simple
Word. I got fc8000 ran 60-70 percent in veg then 90-100 in flower no issues. Everyone makes growing way harder then it should be
Your like the light guru. I changed my settings and it was amazing how much they responded
Damn you. You told me then exactly what I need to know cuz mine are praying up all day everyday. I like I thought it was a good thing. They also pray up right after you give them water. I noticed about 20 or 30 minutes later
Yea I vegfed for 10 weeks 4 plants in 4x4 I definitely ran out of light with a 400 watt in each tent, thank you for explaining the percentages and when to change percent thank you
Straight class GT. Bigging up the other content creators merch.
photos are better in my opinion as well, but I do love some of these new autos , once in a while ( when needed ;) ) . glad they are both good now.
Plants can also pray when they're getting too much light! They try to lessen their area exposed to it by twisting, pointing straight up etc.
By praying they are getting closer to the light and increasing how much light they are getting
Thanks so much for this video I really have been over thinking this one
Yep actually joined patrion right after this video came out and in two days i started seeing growth
Thank you sir had to watch it twice then pay attention the first time I guess but I really do appreciate all these helpful hints and skills and your patreon is awesome or discord I mean your merch is awesome be well
GT comes with the fundamentals and drills them. Its really an overlooked aspect
I am doing it just like you said. Now it's time to sit back and see what happens.
Good analogy regarding food and light levels, thank you .
Great info re praying leaves, appreciate the insight and lighting schedule.
I always learn so much from watching your channel... love it!
Hey GT, been waiting on an episode in which this topic was covered, ready to inhale the knowledge ... Fire away 😎👍😎
Don't stress, just take baby steps and you will make accomplishments the likes of What About Bob!
ok boys just let me pull out my par meter that costs as much as my light and measure my par
@@dpducks2723 i use my phone. It's free.
@@ChrisMollo I like the idea what app is it? but a phone still costs as much as a light and my phone cost like 100 for the cheapest lol
@DPDUCKS photone, lux and ppfd meter are 3 apps i have. It may work on a cheaper phone. Most lights should have the specs of ppfd from distances anyways as a basic guide.
Spit It out man! Cut to the chase!
im running glue gelato autos with ac.infinity evo8 i had my lights on 10 at the top in my 5x5 tent my plants are droopy so i brouht the light down to 24in and put them on 4 after hearing this i just dropped the intensity down to 30% hoping to see change
I'm a big supporter of All growers and who teach you thank you for teaching this to people
Watching 💪🏼 notification on always
Great but simple info on leaves saying how much light they need. Super info. 👊❤️
Thank you for the Info,Great Video!
Totally makes sense, this light schedule and praying leaves. Thanks GT
Already watched but had to watch it again.
Love the info bro great job 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Apparently I was learning guitar solos before watching this because Kevin started talking super slow and almost slurred. I thought I was having a seizure or something. I had the settings on half speed. 🤦🏼♂️
I've only watched a cpl videos but I like how you explain things
One important detail is missing
...what height is light in this sample? It will also have an affect on the power of the light
My flower room has ROI 680s in my bedroom has a viper spectra 1500s. With the same concept go even though one light is more intense than the other.
The girl scout gum im growing now really likes to express herself through her leaves haha
I don't know enough about simply explaining. I'm high. Great channel I'll be back.😅
Another great video brother, I appreciate all you do for all of us
Always dropping gems over here 🤘🏻🔥🤘🏻
Praise the sun
Lol bye Felicia this is Sparta 🏆🔥
thank you for the information.. LED's are in reality new to me but I like them // this is a great rule of thumb to know.. thanks again..
How does wattage affect the plants. 250w vs. 450w?
Don't mind the negative comments man. The rest of us appreciate you. Keep up the good work bro.
"Autos wont fill out your canopy" *Laughs (and cries) in 2x2... Great video none the less thank you
Does this method work when using hps 600ww ?
what is your advice if the lights dont have a dimmer? do you just adjust the distance to the plant to get the % decrease and increase one would get with a dimmer?
is what I do mine don't have a dimmer you can look up distances
@@Clintscollectiblez probably hook it up to a smart outlet plug then alexa can dim your lights by percentages. I do it with my amazon smart bulbs. I tell alexa to dim at what percentage i want and she does!! Like a good little girl!!
I like a good straight water with my three part botanicare and flora blend during transition phase, they slow down and start kicking into bloom
Great video!! Your the best teacher on YT!!!
Knowing is half of the battle thank you for all your help.
Thank you for the info
If you cannot articulate you are not articulate 😁😁 best web grower!!!
Im currently using MH n HPS in a 4x4 1000w. I know im an old goat. Im going to switch to LED soon. Aside from lower heat n lower energy cost what other changes, pos or neg can i expect? Thank you!!!
There will be no negative change at all but faster growth better electric bill and so far I've noticed more under growth with my optic 500s slim its a beauty❤ and for a 4x4 I'd run around 450-550 watts max and try to get one with setting switches for veg and flower I'm running 5 super skunk autos and 3 green crack autos in a 5x5x7 foot tall and the 502 watt optic 500s slim is amazing a bit pricey but wonderful😀 and not to mention also less heat but also keep the air circulation Going with fans
LEDs are trash old timer...I've purchased everything from a 150w Samsung diode 301 etc to 600w LED. Guess where they're all at? Sold to a buddy! I now have 2x 600w mh/hps and the growth and quality is just better. Idc what anyone says lol
ive ran side by side with hps and led with the same strain everything the same something i noticed is the growth was about the same the led side had more nodes closer together, the led side wanted more cal/mag, my power bill was lower didnt have to run my ac near as hard in the summer. the best part about led for me is the plants can be seen so well cause the high color index there is no orange color to the plant making it harder to spot issues. con for me is using led in the winter time my basement gets cold if i went full led i think i would have to run a heater or something if the light isn't running 50%+ to keep it 75F in the tent when vegging.
@@gardin9346 closer nodes mean nothing...got proof?
@@Tinfoiledhat don't need proof it's a question your acting like certain people can't grow or have there own ways and styles your defiantly being a KAREN GO SMOKE AND RELAX 🤣🤣😎 and if LEDS are trash maybe learn how to use them first before having a OPINION 🤣 like that I run a optic 500s slim that will put any other 502 watt light to shame #Teamoptic and I almost can bet your bills way higher and harder to keep optimal Temps during warm and hot days using his or metaholide bulbs🙈🙉🙊 and old timer if your regarding to me being old your hilarious I'm 33 lmfao🤣😅
GT , Thank you for this information, I was able to snag this on your 420 special and while I was already passed it in my grow I’m following it for the remainder. By any chance can you do a video with regards to proper light height for LED lights During all stages of the grow?
Nice Einstein quote. Thanks for the great information GT!
