  • 1998 A Current Affair Australian SAS feature. Includes the only publicly released footage of Australian and New Zealand SAS deployed to Kuwait in 1998 as part of Operation Desert Thunder.

    I worked with British Regiment guys when I was in the reserves and in my Civvy job for the MOD. Total professionalism and certainly no egos or big heads amongst them. And they never looked down on us lesser mortals. They just say everyone in the Army has a job to do and theirs is just another job that they do very well.

      They are talking about pass out. You then go on another 12 months continuance. Can be RTU at any time in that period.

      There was a political requirement during the deployment to take them.

      One reason cited at the time was the Government wanted them to look "Australian", (as they wore US styled DCUs). Taking the F88 was a boon though as the deployment (and the F88s shortcomings on the deployment) was a catalyst for the introduction of the M4 later that year begin replacing the ageing and varied M16/CAR rifles in the armoury.

    @ the 1:01 mark, we had to do that, but put the wooden plugs in as we went up and then back down, i wonder why they are not doing it, i know why, its a TV interview we cant show how good these blokes are, love watching older SASR training uploads, lol :)

    How can they even get the SAS wrong, its SASR not SAS or NZSAS, only the Poms have the SAS ?

      Well it is sort of...as it's 1998 but a lot of the footage used is from several years earlier.
