    IF YOU CAN'T FIND THIS RIG
    the easiest way to use it is create a level sequence, and drag the metahuman from the top right where your level contents are, into the sequence.
    Then you can drop down the sub menus under the metahuman in the sequence, and when you click each of the rigs they'll appear to use

      Thank you kindly. It's absurd that opening the face rig isn't covered in this video at all, horrible oversight. Unreal Engine ought to delete this video and redo it to cover how to open up the face rig and address all questions in the comment section. Honestly this is a very bad tutorial because all it really shows is how to tweak the face controls and nothing more. Thanks... once I figured out how to even enable face controls; adjusting everything was pretty self explanatory and basic.

    Some of the 'unnatural' facial movements describe Rowan Aitkinson to a t... This is something as a senior 3D generalist, I have been waiting for years. Facial rigging is THE most time consuming and intense part of any rigging. Can't wait to use this and pull off cinematics, big up to the devs!

    I don't know if this can already be done, as i need to download the project. but it would be good if you can save "presets" with the face.
    so you could make a happy expression, sad etc. as well as alphabet sounds saved as presets. so you can work heavily on each one. and then when needed, load the desired expression for further tweaking.
    it is already fast! it's got to what you can do with blending morph targets together but more versatile. without having to make each expression again for each character you make.
    but having the functionality to do that will make it even faster.
    obviously workflow for games might change at this point, but i'm used to the morph target route. so i am interested to see how it will all play out in actual development
    amazing work to the team here. it's phenomenal. even just to be able to get a good looking 3d character is hard enough. so this is a great way to make it more accessible to so many more developers

    Opening and closing the eyes (and looking around) instantly made it come alive. This is an amazing rig, but I can't imagine painstakingly animating even a couple of sentences for this thing. I hope there is automated facial animation mocap in the works.

      Would be nice to have a bunch of phoneme presets to choose from and tween between. Like how Wallace and Gromit or Chicken Run have a bunch of heads that they swap out. Give us all those heads.

    This video was 10% me learning how to use the software and 90% me being amazed at how the full expressiveness of the human face can be captured by a few controls.

      Don't be fooled, under the hood there are hundreds of bones, almost a thousand morph targets all across 3 LODs and masked wrinkled maps. All flawlessly programmed together like a perfectly orchestrated ballad. The amount of R&D that went into this is astronomical and Epic was just like..."Oh, here you go. We made this". This wouldn't be possible to a regular consumer without the processing power today, say, 10 years ago. I'm more amazed that they are letting us use this.

    Small Tip: If you want to reset the Controller, just select it and press Ctrl+G. It'll reset it to 0.

      Thanks! I just thought about that we have this all controllers in 3D editors and also we have way to reset transforms without ctrl+z. Thought UE doesn't have this feature.

    I still have so many questions, but lets start with the obvious one: When can we get access to the tool that allows you to customize your character like we saw on the trailer?

      It’s not released yet. It likely will be subscription based or pay-for-character. while the sample is free, and it’s free to use in unreal, the creator itself likely will have a cost attached.

      @@RetzyWilliams That logic doesn't match Epic current price structure .. Epic seems to only charge for tools based on yearly annual revenue and this mostly applies to large or breakout studios. I doubt Epic would nickel and dime its user base for such a small toolkit given what they give away with the core engine already...what we may see is a TOS allowing use in only Unreal Engine based projects with no direct export option...or if anything...a paid export option similar to Quixel

    This tutorial isn't showing how to select the controls, how is he able to select the individual controls like that? When I try to select in the viewport like this, it just selects the entire face rig in the outliner. I've watched a few tutorials on control rig including this one and nothing allows me to select the controls. I've tried the animation mode but it's the same. Please help!

    not great examples for facial animation but Horizon ZD and Witcher 3 had some practical usage for a similar tech where the artist would shift through presets including body postures which helped getting thorugh hours of dialog... will there be a tool similar to that ? a standalone tool that will accompany the downloaded rig perhaps?

    Really need a reset all control huh... In addition, man it'd be great if there were a randomized expression generator where if you label some set values for a certain expression, it can tweak it a bit to generate similar but unique expressions. Then string em up together!!

    It would be precious of we had an option for tweaking specularity of the eyes and the red and white tone of the face. It would bring WAY MORE realistic possibilities for the tool. You can fake an expression shape, but the eye specularity reveals the truth. You can say "I love you" with a big smile on your face, but if your eyes are opaque, well, you are lying. You can tell everyone you are not in love with that guy, but you may blush or become a little pale.
    Another VERY useful option would be tweaking the corner of the jaw, like someone presses it while being tense. He won't have any other expression on his face, but this quick pressing in the corner of his jaw to reveal he is in trouble.

      As I see it (after testing a bit with both the iphone app that syncs to this, and just using the controls by themselves), a very good workflow would probably be to do facial capture as a basis, and then tweak it to perfection with these controls. The result from just the facial capture is a very good start, but it's not perfect.

    In this video, you're in Perspective mode - ie. you're just using the normal default camera - but you're "flat on" to the Face Rig which is what I'd love to be. It's so so so difficult to use - I can't see the facial rig, like you're seeing it here. I've tried switching to "front" video to make it easier but then - even with my 3090 - it slowwwwwwsss downnnnnn. There must be something simple I am missing?

      Does anyone have any tips for this? I want to move my character around the scene and animate the body first, but the facial rig controls don't follow the head which means it is nearly impossible to see the controls and the face at the same time. Any advice?

      I don’t think it’s available to the public yet but I’m sure when the time comes they’ll tell us
      As of right now they have samples so even you open it everything is ready for you

    Is there anything that takes recorded video of facial movements of the voice actor and transfers it to the meta human rig? Or are we stuck with key frame?

      Yes just search “meta human motion capture” and people have already put out a bunch of great videos on here including instructions on how to set it up.

    How do you select multiples controls??? i use Control+Alt to box select and no control gets selected.

    isn't there a button to select both controller sides automatically? it's a small thing but having a shift or alt click to do that would be a great time saver and it would make the animation process more fluid.

      @Behram Patel ok progress. I found the "Face_ControlBoard_CtrlRig" in my Content Browser. When I double click on it, it opens in a new window in which I see the blue print and also a view of the head of the mannequin, without hair. I clicked on the green button, the face control rig is visible and I can interact with it. Cool. But in the video above, he's interacting with the control rig in the normal viewport and with the full mannequin with hair. Not sure how he does that.

    I'm not afraid of being alone when I'm old and gray anymore. Probably stupid but...how to multiselect rig elements without selecting the background plane? Animation control "only select rig control" can't avoid this issue. "Ctrl"+"Alt"+ LMB also select whatever behind.

    I hope there's a support for Maya, where you can animate everything there and then export it to Unreal. IMO Unreal still feels very weird when it comes to trying to animate anything, I feel like I can never make any nice small adjustments

    I would love for realistic rigs like this to start using actual FACS (Facial Action Coding System) shapes, based on real human muscles so it can work with facial tracking better. This is realistic and looks great, but yeah, to animate something realistic you can't hand key every single fine detail, using FACS would help a ton with facial motion capture to get that realism that actually blurs the uncanny valley even more!

    Hey I need to help, Im trying to directly control the eye look rotations and head rotation via the anim BP and Im in the facial rig post process Anim BP, I can see on the neck control rig node there are inputs and output pins. But creating a control rig node for the facial rig I am unable to find any information on how to add inputs to directly control the eye look rotation .
    Simple question How can I use that global look at trick you talk about Here @30:25 ! to track something in world space .ANY HELP?

    Here is an idea for you guys: feed 15 photos or so of a person to a ML and it generates a metahuman for you to use in all unreal 5 games and VR envs

    Looks like it could do with a few reset toggles out side the face to re set last to zero. re set all to zero or re set area to zero. It might help to have a number count in the corner showing how many are not at zero so you can glance at it and see that you still have something on when you thought every thing was zero. Zero being the default positions for everything.
