I think you convinced me to cancel my Figuarts pre-order on this one unfortunately. For my collection the Figuarts has to be the definitive version to justify the price and the face on this one doesn’t do it as well as the black series. Thanks for the video Luke!
I think the SHF with old Ben plastic cape works amazingly well. Even improves the likeness on the messy hair somehow.
You know what. I finally decide to say why not and just ordered this figure. It will go great with SHF battle damaged Vader. Thank you for the review, great as always.
Never seen this type of arm Articulation before!. I like it.
I don’t think the stock heads are that bad. I’ve seen worse.

I'm totally with you on the sculpted robes vs soft goods. Hasbro can definitely give us open force hands, they do it all the time with Marvel Legends
I prefer soft goods, even if you can get the best out of em, cuse a plastic robe it just feels like stubborn to get some posing

One of the few SHF I did not Preorder. The face was not doing it for me. Took a gamble that it wont be popular and can get it for cheaper on a price drop. Looks like it sold out upon release. Oh, well. I was not too big of a fan of the series. I just like the body and robes. edit: FOMO got me. Going to my secondary Import site to order him with this months shipment. Too many cool hands to pass up.
This feels like the quintessential S.H.Figuarts figure. SHF likenesses excel when translating animation to plastic, but live-action is where they always have trouble. I'm okay with cloth goods, especially wired robes and capes, but Bandai's have just always felt lacking. Mafex tend to be my choice if I think a figure would benefit from cloth goods. Other than that though, the articulation looks really solid. QC could do with some work, since that looseness detracts a lot from the figure (still not the worse SHF offender this year, though), but the poseability is what has me. A lot of Black Series figures just feel limited when they shouldn't, and this just seems more dynamic.
This guy just went up for 25 for Black Friday. Can't wait to get in hand.

Both bodies are great, and I’ll be using them in customs for sure. Been dying for a pinless 6” Jedi, for ages, and now I have two to choose from!

Thanks for the review Luke! Since I started watching you and your ANH shelf you got me into the SHF line and I’m now about 25 deep and definitely have my preferences with them. This figure is a bit disappointing for me from the angry face not being that great and the lightsaber looking straight up inaccurate. There’s no denying though the body sculpt looks great, a ton of hands, two Lola’s, a wired cloak, and the lightsaber swing effect there’s definitely some merit there, gonna be a sale pickup for me! Great review again Luke!
Love the look of the figure! The sculpting looks awesome. The heads are bad in my opinion, but with a new Fett Clone head it’ll be perfect!

I have several SH Figuarts figures in my collection. I only get them if 1. they are on sale and I like the figure or 2. Black series has yet to solve the problem like face sculpt or farm boy Luke or white dress Leia. This one does not inspire either. It's not a bad figure but for the price point, I'm not jumping.
Just ordered this after watching your video 😅 The likeness isn't as bad as I expected and I love getting all the SHF Star Wars figures. Also I I bet I could get that wired cloak to look good 😎 though it looks good with the plastic one as well.

I have several figuarts and none of them have loose joints, in fact is generally the contrary, the joins can be stiff af and I have to use silicone shock oil
I'm gonna be straight with you I don't personally think the solid robes look great but hey it's your figure so your choice what you do with it

He's honestly not bad looking though the soft goods cloak really doesn't look that great. As someone who doesn't collect black series, i can appreciate figuarts and not having to buy like ten more characters or so from a show or movie. Just need my hero and villain so this one is ordered same goes with vader.
I just got the Rey TROS SHF and this is my 4th fig and the loose joints are def an issue lol The sculpted jedi tunic on both TBS and SHF look fantastic. The Ben Kenobi robe works really well! Maybe a slight repaint to the robe to contrast the robe and tunic (but i know you mentioned not wanting to paint SHF because of it's value)
Would you go darker or lighter with the paint?
Looks cool my biggest concern is the small peg snapping where you put the lightsaber in his had would make the figure pointless if it broke
Do you ever get overwhelmed by how many hands these figures come with? I do a bit haha I really wish black series would come with alt hands. That way we would have a plethora of additional hands we could add to other figs instead of them just sitting around b
The Figuarts have better pose ability and so many hands too many hands but I must say that open force hands is a great alternative for displaying Jedi figures and I wish Black Series Figures had that option.
Black Series Figures are more affordable than the Figuarts figures and the head looks better in my opinion. Also the lightsaber from the black series looks much better than the Figuarts saber.
I'll be getting my Obi-Wan Jabim figure from BBTS soon, my loot pile will have to be shipped in about a week.

Got an exacto knife and cut off about half an inch on the shoulders for the black series Jabiim obi wan. Now it can do two handed lightsaber poses and lift his arms! I refuse to let shf blow black series out the water! Be better of course but not blow them out the water lol
Only thing now is he looks like episode 2 black series obi wan lol I cut the Jedi robe around the shoulders exactly like that one lol
If the soft goods are a good fit and realistic design, there just is no match to it. The mix between plastic and cloth isn't even a thing to consider anymore when the overall picture looks so damn convincing. So no Luke you're not crazy for prefering plastic sculpts as long as you keep using not well fitting soft goods. The moment you do use they from talented customizers, there is no going back.
Bro handles the figure with more violence than Darth Vader fighting obi wan, also the cloth goods can look really good with some patience using the wires but I can see you don't have that

Wired cloth robes are so much better than plastic robes because plastic robes get in the way of posing.
I think if I were to get the figuarts Obi Wan I'd go insane from the figure collapsing under the weight of me trying to manipulate the robes into the proper position.
Not perfect by any means but I’m far less worried about the face prints after watching your review 👍

I always go for the shf over black series when it comes to Jedi bc the articulation
articulation goes to SHF, but the headsculpt goes to the Black series

funny i have the oposite problem, i find black series figures way too stiff, i guess it comes down to habit
My ”Phantom Menace” Kenobi’s arm can’t just go up straight like any other figure I have (of NECA etc), it will pop out.
so you don't like custom wired jedi robes like from rebel 10 customs who can make the wire work really well

That cloth robe looks like a pain in the ass to me too.
I Just get Anakin EP3 and i notice Anakin doesnt have bicep like rotation xS
The rotation is at the shoulder, bicep rotation became a regular thing around when the mandalorian came out
Mezco does a much better job with soft goods.
Hasbro does have the budget to give their black series open alternate hands. They do those all the time with their Marvel Legends figs. Their Star Wars team is just lazy.
I think Obi-Wan (Jabiim) figure is better.

Maybe it’s me, but the SHF arms look too long.
This is just me landspeeder Luke but i really love the black series figure. Yes the figuarts has more articulation but i just think the black series one looks better.
Face doesn't even look like Obi-Wan. Not to mention the beard being waaay darker than the hair.
