Yea, I really got lucky on my Christmas vacation. I have one more video of that trip where I catch one off the beach again. I never thought of dropping pots from a kayak!
awesome video! I recommend using leaded line for your trap, I'd like to use a 70/30 leaded/nylon on my traps, had a few times where I've driven over nylon rope...it ain't fun...lol oh and don't throw the rock crabs back! they're soooo yummy! they taste really sweet! greetings from the north west washington area!
I'm a new Fisher. Started like a year ago since no one in my family likes to fish besides my uncle or grandma. I started off my own. But I came here from fishermans life. Been loving his videos and been watching a lot of yours as well. Iam going to be fishing down at Morro Bay in 2 weeks. Any advices on which hooks to use ? I'm still new to hooks and all. Just been watching videos on advices Haha.
Thanks for checking out the channel and subscribing! Hook size all depends on the fish you are targeting and the bait you are using. A good rule of thumb is to match the size of hook to the bait you are using.
Hi Adam, we went crabbing in HMB on opening day and it was very productive, I got a few and two 7” 😋. Hope you get a chance to go out before commercial season starts and they fill HMB full with traps, I plan to go back on Saturday.
A perfect day on Half Moon Bay..!! That makes we want to cruise the PCH and pick up some fresh fish and crabs on the pier..!! I used to go to Mavericks and watch my bros getting wicked wave rides
are inflatable sup's sturdy enough for this? ive heard the industry is moving away from rigid and going to isup, also easier to transport and store. what do you think?
Excellent video! I was just out crabbing for the first time last weekend and the big ones would grab on and not let go. The trick is to shake the cage, seems like they don't like the vibration and will let go or maybe it relaxes them? Incredible eats! 😋🦀🦀🦀
Is kayaking only for ocean fishing? Not trying to sound stupid. But it looks like your having a ball with or without a catch. FYI- I’m from Richmond,Va area. Any advice? Thanks
Definitely not! There are a ton of fish you can target in lakes from Kayaks. Do you have any lakes near where you live? If so, I am sure people fish them from kayaks!
Great video. Came here from Fishermans life. Subbed. Camera angle and editing could have some room for improvement. Definitely would love to see more vids from you :) I have been thinking about crabbing on a kayak for long time. I will do that some day.
Thanks for checking out the channel and subscribing! I would like to get another GoPro to add some additional angles and improve my editing game. Just working on making better videos every day!
Wow, thats not deep at all but bringing up a full basket from 50 feet must be tiring. I have a 11' kayak - I may try the ocean when the conditions are super mild.
Awesome video! Just a suggestion, you may want to look into a rope weight, keep the excess rope down when soaking in shallow water....prevent boats from wrapping your rope in their prop, and losing your pot....... again, not to take away from your video, awesome job!! Some beautiful Dungeoness!
Thanks for watching and thank you for the suggestion. I have talked to a few people who have said the same thing. I want to get another pot and will definitely get the weighted rope for that one. Hopefully more successful crab videos to come!
Thanks for checking out the channel and subscribing! It is a Hobie outback. I definitely recommend if you are looking into getting a pedal kayak for the ocean!
Awesome vid dude. You got huge cojones being out there in just a kayak. You need to use a different rope for your crab pots. That synthetic rope doesn't absorb the water so it floats near the top of the water which could wrap around the prop of a boat heading back into Princeton. But that doesn't change the fact that the vid was AWESOME!!!!!!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! Yeah I need to get leaded core rope for the crab pots so it doesn't float on top of the water. Hoping to get a second pot and thats the one change I would make. Hopeful more successful crab videos to come!
Nice video! That's a good haul for this season. For your setup, just add an 8 oz torpedo weight about 25 feet down from the buoy. Get the torpedo weight with the rings on the end and use small plastic cable ties to secure it to the line. Pull tight so it doesn't slide. You only need about 25% more line for scope depending on where you crab. If you have more, then coil up some and use the cable ties. Good luck crabbing.
oooof, fo pah.. Sinking line brother. DFO see that and they'll pull your trap and fine you. Nice catch tho! Great vid set-up, and content. No disrespect
Nice crabs...I think I might be epileptic though, I had to look away every time the gps screen was shown, felt like I was going to have a seizure. New sub, keep it up!
Die Hard Fishing what kind of kayak do you have and would you say it’s safe for a newbie to get out there on a kayak? Seems like a lot of fun, do you ever run into sharks?
I have a Hobie outback. I would recommend renting a kayak a time or two first to see what you like and make sure you are comfortable with it. Also go with a buddy in case you run into any trouble. I haven't seen any sharks (knock on wood) but they are definitely out there!
Have you gotten rid of that funky-ass yellow floating poly shit rope and upgrading to Leaded-Line rope dude? It will make you're crabbing life better !
letting the coastguard know about that turtle would probably have been a good idea if you could have seen any damage on him from pillars from a boat or shark attack , I wonder if he is on endangered species list.
You should never use floating line on crab pots! They make weighted line especially for this! The floating line is easily snagged by a boat propeller. In Washington state it is the law!
Thanks for watching and thank you for the suggestion. I have talked to a few people who have said the same thing. I want to get another pot and will definitely get the weighted rope for that one. Hopefully more successful crab videos to come!
Did some research, calls, etc, the 2018 Hobie Mirage Outback (camo style) looks like the one hell of a kayak... See you out there near P - Point one day! ;-)
I disagree. Red Rock crabs eat a lot of plant materials and get a strong taste (iodine?). They are okay in seafood stews that have onions, garlic, tomatoes, celery, or other strong flavored ingredients but not in salads or plain.
put some lead rope on your pot. the way youre doing it isnt the best way to do it because your rope is floating and boats will run it over and get it wrapped in their prop. The lead rope will hang straight down out of site.
Please add weights to you line when fishing for crab. An unweighted line can cause serious problems for a motor driven boat when the floating line becomes entangled in the propeller. .
If you can let the crabs hang... they will let go! :D! If you have a trap full of small ones.. hold the trap so they can hang and they will let go and fall into the sea. When you pull them out by hand they grab onto anything and won't let go. Hope that helps. I grab the big ones and dump out the rest when I can. Good luck and fish on! :D! ·´¯`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸ >
Boat size limit is bigger than shore size limit. Also keeping only the males depletes the genetic diversity of the crab population. Keep them all except females that have eggs.
Sorry, you are wrong. Do you think if there was any truth that letting female crabs go, reduced genetic diversity that the same regulations wouldn't include the commercial fleet. The sport catch is minute to that of the commercial fishery. Letting female crabs go increases the spawn. Female crabs over 5.75 inches are getting old and don't spawn as many eggs, so it doesn't really hurt to provide some additional opportunities to sporter's, but you are still doing the fishery a solid by letting them go if you don't need them.
All the females I got were undersized so I couldn't keep them anyway. Also as far as I know the size limit is the same for shore based anglers as well as boat anglers here in California.
Die Hard Fishing the rules are sometimes a little vague for my old brain. I will have to double check on that rule and get back with you. One time it was clear.(Probably before you were born.)☺
Thank you for making a video that actually moves along! Sweet catch, bro! LOVE crabbing!
Thanks for watching! I see you have been getting on some nice crabs up your way too!
Yea, I really got lucky on my Christmas vacation. I have one more video of that trip where I catch one off the beach again. I never thought of dropping pots from a kayak!
You should try it out if you have the chance! Not sure if you have any doable kayak launch areas near you though...
Omg ace videos I’m a big fan
awesome video! I recommend using leaded line for your trap, I'd like to use a 70/30 leaded/nylon on my traps, had a few times where I've driven over nylon rope...it ain't fun...lol
oh and don't throw the rock crabs back! they're soooo yummy! they taste really sweet!
greetings from the north west washington area!
Yes I swapped out all the rope for leaded line in my more recent vids. I also tried the rock crabs and they are pretty good!
Your channel is awesome! You gotta do some catch and cook videos, I’d love to see you cook up what you catch. I’m looking forward to more great stuff.
Thanks for checking out the channel! The next video will be me cooking up these crab! Plus more catch and cook videos to come!

Awesome sunset, nice crabs, can almost taste them . Lol
Wow, Dude thats a lot of crabs, enjoyed the video, jumped over here from fishermans life
Thanks for checking out the channel and subscribing!
A perfect day on Half Moon Bay..!! That makes we want to cruise the PCH and pick up some fresh fish and crabs on the pier..!! I used to go to Mavericks and watch my bros getting wicked wave rides
Can't beat the fresh fish! Mavericks can get wicked pipe.
Good catching in a kayak crabbing awesome . we use jet skis for fishing in Hawaii crazy huh ..
Dang, I wish the swells were that nice here, haha. I could get in and out in less than 60 seconds!
Die Hard Fishing : sometimes the swells are not nice hahaha it’s a skill to control the craft when crabbing or fishing ..
Great videos! I plan to try crabbing from a kayaking in half moon bay soon. What are the best months to go?
Thanks in advance!
The beginning of the season is generally better but you can get them any time the season is open!
how deep is the water, where you sent your cage down?
Around 30 feet.
Just subscribed, looking for that salmon video Matts mentioned in his recent upload haha. Tight lines!
Thanks for checking out the channel and subscribing! Here is a link to the video:

Die Hard Fishing ty sir!
Omg....lots of Dungeness there....wow...tfs
Beginners luck I guess, haha
are inflatable sup's sturdy enough for this?
ive heard the industry is moving away from rigid and going to isup, also easier to transport and store.
what do you think?
I think its possible but it would be tough. The balancing would be tricky. Maybe if you got a smaller crab net then it would be more doable.
Excellent video! I was just out crabbing for the first time last weekend and the big ones would grab on and not let go. The trick is to shake the cage, seems like they don't like the vibration and will let go or maybe it relaxes them? Incredible eats! 😋🦀🦀🦀
Oh that is a good idea! I will try that next time out. Thanks!!!
How many feet deep did you drop the crab pot?
Why would anyone dislike this video? Lol. Awesome bodega fun bro
Thanks for watching!
Good video.
Those Red Rock crabs were worth keeping.

i love crabbing nice catching thank you for sharing thanks.
Thanks for watching!
Not only do you need to mark your pot, but if you also need to use Lead Core rope so you're floating line doesn't get caught up in props
I changed all the floating line out in my recent vids!
Thanks, great catches btw. I'll be looking for you out there.
Great video. Came here from Fishermans life. Subbed. Camera angle and editing could have some room for improvement. Definitely would love to see more vids from you :) I have been thinking about crabbing on a kayak for long time. I will do that some day.

Great video and info. I’d subscribe. Keep it up.
Thanks for checking out the channel and subscribing!
Nice video! Making it look too easy...I'm certain it is not. Can you tell me how deep your drop is also the length of your outback?
yeah the outback is 13 feet I believe. I don't remember exactly how deep this was but I think it was somewhere between 30-50 fow
Wow, thats not deep at all but bringing up a full basket from 50 feet must be tiring. I have a 11' kayak - I may try the ocean when the conditions are super mild.
Good luck! Just make sure you have all the stuff to stay safe!
Nice vid. watched your salmon vid. "who needs a fish finder? those are for the weak" lol. What rod are you using with your Ambassadeur?
Thanks for watching! It is a g Loomis 9 foot salmon rod. Love that rod!
Awesome video! Just a suggestion, you may want to look into a rope weight, keep the excess rope down when soaking in shallow water....prevent boats from wrapping your rope in their prop, and losing your pot....... again, not to take away from your video, awesome job!! Some beautiful Dungeoness!

Thanks! I was in about 35 feet of water.
Awesome vid dude. You got huge cojones being out there in just a kayak.

@Die Hard Fishing ; Chicken is the absolute best bait for crabs, or money if your going for Mr Krabs.
hahaha, I'll stick with the chicken.
Nice video! That's a good haul for this season. For your setup, just add an 8 oz torpedo weight about 25 feet down from the buoy. Do a catch and cook. Awesome crab catch
Next video is the cooking portion!
That first one was huge! Does Davey Jones know you kidnapped his pet? Awesome vid!

I am in central California. Hope to see you out on the water someday!
Where at in California I definitely want to go and try crabbing for Dungeness crabs.
Nice crabs...I think I might be epileptic though, I had to look away every time the gps screen was shown, felt like I was going to have a seizure. New sub, keep it up!
Thanks for checking out the channel and subscribing! Sorry for any dizziness caused lol
what kayak is that?
Hobie Outback

I got mine on craigslist but most kayak stores sell them if you want to get one brand new.
Great video man. Thanks for sharing. Tight lines!
Thanks!
where in California is this
Out of Half Moon Bay Harbor
Die Hard Fishing where you get into the water from harbor? Any limitation ? Good vid! Thanks for sharing
I launch from the area near the kayak rental. Pretty easy to come in and out of. Thanks for watching!
Great video! Gonna eat good haha!!
Thanks, I can assure you they tasted great! Glad you enjoyed the video.
Die Hard Fishing what kind of kayak do you have and would you say it’s safe for a newbie to get out there on a kayak? Seems like a lot of fun, do you ever run into sharks?

Die Hard Fishing cool! Thanks for the feedback!
That first one is one of the biggest jumbo dungenous crabs I've ever seen.
If only they were all that size, haha
where is this ?
Have you gotten rid of that funky-ass yellow floating poly shit rope and upgrading to Leaded-Line rope dude? It will make you're crabbing life better !
lol, yes. If you watch my recent crabbing vids I have swapped out the rope for leaded rope.
What brand and model?
I believe it is a raymarine dragonfly
Good job bro...I wish we could trade places lol!!!!
Thanks! I'm at home now and wish I was back out there, lol
Why does that machine thing keep flashing
I am not sure, something to do with the camera.
Should do catch n cook
Next video is the cooking portion!
a trick is to squeeze the claw, they will let go of the cage and try to fight, then, just slide to the back again
Thanks, I'll give that a try!
shout out to my dude fisherman's life!!
Thanks for checking out the channel!
You need to do cook videos as well
Next video will be the cooking portion!
The damn Crab basket is bigger than the boat!
yeah I hope one day its too heavy for me to lift onto the kayak, haha
Die Hard Fishing Be safe get a bigger boat Man U taking a big risk.
letting the coastguard know about that turtle would probably have been a good idea if you could have seen any damage on him from pillars from a boat or shark attack , I wonder if he is on endangered species list.
It was just a ray that was on top of the water. I am not sure if it was sick or not but I'm 100% sure they are not endangered.
@@DieHardFishing I feel much better now ty :)
This guy reminds me of fisherman life
Thanks for checking out the channel!
Need to use leased line
Leaded
I have since changed everything to leaded line. Check my recent vids!

Dude you're nuts going that far out.....
haha, it isn't that far!
What type/model kayak are you using out there? Looks sturdy and was definitely moving during your latest trout trolling video!
It a Hobie outback. I highly recommend!
Did some research, calls, etc, the 2018 Hobie Mirage Outback (camo style) looks like the one hell of a kayak... See you out there near P - Point one day! ;-)
Yeah, the newer models are even nicer than the one I have. Hope to see you too!
When’s ur next video
Coming out today at 8am PST!
Rock crab have good meat in the claws so if it's a legal size you should take them home and eat that the meat from the claws it's very delicious.
Thanks for the tip! I will have to try them next time!
Check out my recent videos! Switched out all my floating rope for lead core rope!
Red Rock crab is better than Dungeness the shell is harder and to my knowledge you can keep male or female
Yeah, I have heard it tastes better but is more work to shell. I might have to try it next time!
In my experience the harder the shell the better the meat
I will try it out next time!
Yeah I'm from Rhode island you wouldn't want to be out in December here I wish it was 65 here in December
lol yeah I can only imagine. But you do have those massive striped bass!
Please add weights to you line when fishing for crab. An unweighted line can cause serious problems for a motor driven boat when the floating line becomes entangled in the propeller. .
Yes! In my more recent crab videos I go over using a weighted rope. Thanks for watching out!
i've never met you, but for some reason you seem so familiar. dunno why, must be the way you talk
If you fish in the Bay Area, I very well might have seen you somewhere!
That’s a lot of crabs l go fishing 1time a week
Thanks for watching!
Your floating line is a navigation hazard! Not cool.
I have since changed everything to leaded line. Check my recent vids!
Make catch and cook videos!
Next video is a catch and cook!
To get the crabs out easer use tongs
Thanks for the tip!
Die Hard Fishing I go craning a lot and it works
Die Hard Fishing and great video
I wil try that next time. Thanks!
I meant crabbing

All good till a Great White moves in on your scents..
You were talking about the bait being fresh - Crabs actually go for the older and stinkier bait.
Thanks for the tip!

Rip crabs
Crabs r good it’s for a good use
Good eating!
0:46 WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT SHIT
haha, it is just a piece of kelp.
My secret is just let go of them and they’ll let go 99% of the time.
I would appreciate if you kept all your rock crabs there are to many in the ocean so please no more releasing them thank
Why does he have to empty the cage while facing into the sun?
Why doesn't he realise that his camera is aimed too high?
Because he is an amateur videographer, hopefully improving though!
