As an adult beginner I’ve been struggling with tone and getting so frustrated! I’ve watched so many videos and tried everything but not until this video where you explain so precisely how to hold the bow. I was using my thumb so much that my hand is sore! Now I can definitely hear a better tone by following your instructions. Thank you so much!!!!!
this was simply beautiful! it opened so many insights to bow holding for me as a self taught beginner violinist. my tone became much better in minutes. thank you so much❤
I keep sharing this with friends, because this lesson has helped me more than any other on the internet. Maybe if I keep sharing, it will go up in the search rankings! You are the BEST teacher, Michael.
you are the only guy on youtube witch holds the bow so (as far as I know). everyone else say to place the thumb in the gap between the frog and that wrapped thingy. you are very brave to go opposite the current of youtube!
This is quite interesting. You are essentially teaching the Russian bow hold. Surprised to see a young teacher teach this hold. I much prefer it as well.
I'm trying to hold the bow as you are showing. I find that the bow is heavy and I need to compensate by pressing my pinky on to the tip in order to control it producing tension in my forearms. Thoughts? Or should I let the weight of the bow drop fully on the strings leave everything to the forefinger to push and pull the bow?
I have tons of mistakes that I never knew not until I have watched your video tutorials. 😅 This made me want to watch and learn more from you Sir. 😊 Maraming salamat po (Thank you very much) for this info, Sir 😄
Follwowing your advice. Helped me release tension on my right hand. But i always loose my grip, i mean my thumb always slides up whenever i do the index drill. How could i avoid it?
I'm currently trying your new bow hold as I'm having bounces and thus, even tone during violin playing. Is there a cause for concern if might pinky is having tension as it is supporting the whole weight of the bow upwards. I'm double-jointed at the pinky.
Absolutely impossible. Which finger holds the bow up exactly? I always though the pinky was pressing down the bow. With how you're explaining none of the fingers in your hand should actually use strength to hold it up xD
Thanks for the lesson!!!
You are welcome!
No idea why this dude only has so little views when every sentence is worth its weight in gold!

It took me SO long to figure out a proper bow hold. I finally did and I have so much less tension!

Best instruction I've seen about how to hold the bow.
Thank you for the lesson🥰
I am very grateful for all your help.

My granddaughter is going to WVU in August to be a strings teacher and I would love to win this bow for her. Violins are her passion. Thanks
Thank you. No wonder that it did not feel natural the way I was trying to hold the bow. Much easier.

I am missing my right index finger and middle finger fingertip. Should I hold the bow differently?

My biggest problem: tense right thumb. Thank you for pointing it out. 🙏

I didn't know.
